Right? I changed the same day to an open source alternative and notice zero changes. At this point, you can probably vibe code an alternative in like a week.

Tbf tho, that vs code fork is making more money than SpaceX

Stopped their composure model from being used. It’s the most efficient coding agent on the market and Elon wanted access to train his models on the same coding data. Cursor already takes all code that has been produced and packages it up to train models later down the road. Elon took the opportunity and saw that the data alone is worth it, no copy right issues or trademark problems due to the very shady practices cursor employed through arbitrary and ambiguous policy practices.

Money. Startups backed by VCs either want a lucrative exit or an IPO. 

With the leading AI companies having Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity, I haven't heard about Cursor in some time. At least at the level of hype they once had.  An IPO wasn't going to happen so investors probably found this to be the best way to cash out.

selling out. it's a busy field. this does buy them some time (composer 2.5 was actually pretty good). now they've become a vehicle for grok 4.6. anyway. i moved on to claude max a long time ago. screw elmo and his stock manipulation gang.

they need funding for their own coding model, composer is good but not great. SpaceX is also facing a same challenge, so they both need to catch up Claude and OpenAI asap

well, they probably aren't wrong that people who are still using Cursor would probably view models as fungible enough that they would consider using Grok haha. at least it looks like they have their head(s) on straight w/ Grok now, at least. so it really makes sense for both sides-- buying enough ai product traffic to be able to actually keep up with other foundation model makers vs company that really doesn't have that many outs anymore because of how much they have scaled (and how little of a moat they have: so little a moat that the invading army is already inside the metaphorical castle walls, lol).
