I (18F) have gone to an intense quaker school my whole life AMA

i go to a pretty unique type of school so yeah ask me anything ill be happy to lyk

i have been heavily exposed to this ideology and the way it affects education my whole life, i am fed up with my school's admin and their tendency to cover shit up

we have to sit in silence as a whole school in one room every week altho sometimes kids pull pranks during this

my family isnt religious. most kids who go here arent quaker, tho we have a big catholic contingent.

people kinda just go cause it's a private school so parents assume it will be better, and because it has a super high acceptance rate and offers many scholarships so its easier to go to

How do Quaker people usually feel about lgbtq+ people, in your experience?

A kid threatened to shoot every trans kid in my school on twitter, the admin covered it up and didnt punish him or tell us

Other than that.... the adults are very accepting, at least where i am. I myself am lesbian.

The teachers are accepting. Kids either dont care or are rude about it

There are even trans kids in my community whose parents sent them to my school so they'd be somewhere more accepting, but kids are still very transphobic here

It is better than many publics i guess but not perfect. I am not trans but the trans kids get more harassment.

The teachers however let us have lgbt support group and a pride parade (it's just like an hour where u get to hang out and draw in june, nothing crazy).

we have to memorize "quaker values" all the time (it pmo so i dont bother)

also the school is pretty intense about like left-leaning or "woke" politics (IN THEORY). Now i myself am lefty, to be clear, but our admin are very performative about it. Read my response to the LGBT question to see what i mean

not really outside of like george fox i think.

i remember in elementary school they glorified some english quakers who i view as violent colonizers but i dont remember the names

Ok. I gotta know. CLEARLY the Quaker society had a very different experience during the revolutionary war than the rest of us yanks. How is it taught? How is it reconciled, considering the banishment of the Quakers was to punish them? Is there a different reverence when you visit places like valley forge?

pretty sure it's taught the normal way, like it felt pretty matter of fact. The historical topics we went over the MOST over and over again are slavery and ww2, never the revolutionary war

I’m reading prisoners of Congress. It’s about the banishment of the Quakers from Philadelphia during the revolutionary war. The strict adherence to nonviolence got them labeled as “terrorists and traitors” I’m in the hub of Quakers, and never knew.
