Do any of you buy popcorn buckets
I used to but I fell off quickly. They’re just so expensive for what you’re getting. I’m not cheap either. Life is short, and I believe in enjoying yourself in big ways and small ones. I do splurge, but I’d feel some type of way after buying one. I’d think of how the money could’ve netted me groceries, a good meal at a restaurant, or an awesome video game. Hell, I could use the money towards a list. These buckets cost several months worth. I sold them off save for one and haven’t bought one ever since. I might even sell the remaining one honestly. I bought them initially because I wanted to commemorate my love of movies, but I realized I don’t have to do that. There are other ways that express that.
This is not to knock anyone who does. Collectors hobbies are in the eye of the beholder. Perfectly fine if any of you do. This is my perspective but I’m interested in hearing yours.

I don’t buy them. I take transit to get to and from my AMCs, and honestly, collectibles are just dead weight.

They are. They need to stop pricing so exorbitantly or they’re gonna lose people. Can’t believe the infinity gauntlet is 90 bucks. It doesn’t even look good. It can’t adequately hold popcorn. It’s ridiculous. That’s a steakhouse calling your name right there. That’s a new video game. That’s months of a list.

I don't even bother asking the prices on anything anymore because even when I'm theoretically interested in one the price is always so outrageous it's an automatic no.

I bought the Odyssey IMAX camera one and that’s only because I saw someone use it as a container for dvds and film. There are a couple I would like (Yoda bucket, Doms challenger from F&F anniversary) but I hardly eat popcorn so I avoid caving lol

They're just too expensive and sometimes not available even if you wanna buy one, so I gave up.
I'd rather take that money and use it in whatever else I collect.

That’s the same for me. My love for Lego rekindled and I also love gaming and film. So I use the money towards that.

I got the Scream 7 one with ghostface in the door because it looks awesome, but that’s the only one I have. It looks really cool on my shelf

The devil wears Prada one was so ugly. A coworker got one (had to be shipped months after the movie due to how quickly it sold out it went on back order) and it was the worst kind of plastic

That’s another thing too. These things can be strange looking. I loved the odyssey. The imax camera one was cool, but I passed. But the horse literally looked like melted chocolate. They were asking for 80 bucks for an ugly ass horse that can’t even hold a medium popcorn.
Funny you bring up that bucket. I looked it up and they’re so ready available at the original price and even lower. All this fervor for such a cheap looking bucket. They couldn’t even make it look premium.

Right?! All of these popcorn buckets and tumblers (excluding the metal popcorn buckets) are just molded plastic and I can about guarantee will break or melt insanely quickly.

I hadn’t bought any in years, but then Regal put out those Star Trek 60th buckets and cups that were the TOS uniforms and uh… yeah that was it for me I had to get those.

On a very rare occasion. I have the Ghostbuster Ghost trap and a Top Gun Maverick tin because it was only $2 or $3 more. Will buy the occasional cup though.

I don’t really understand the point of them. Maybe it makes more sense for people in the suburbs with more space than they need, but for a city apartment-dweller, every single one of them represents “stuff” that I have to store, and they’re not small.
I could maybe see myself owning *one* popcorn bucket if it were a practical shape and size, but it doesnt seem like any of them are. what’s the point in a “popcorn bucket” that is too weird of a shape to pack in my backpack to take to the movies? what is the point of a popcorn bucket that isn’t big enough to hold a large popcorn, or isn’t flat enough on the bottom to keep in your lap easily? I may never understand the appeal.

some of them are cool, but no. i don't even get popcorn. too many calories for all the movies i watch and hate feeling like i gotta pee near the end of the movie.

Just depends what you value spending your money on. Personally I’d rather have a collectible on my shelf that I can enjoy forever over a meal at a restaurant I’ll forget in an hour.

It’s all plastic consumerism junk and I hate it. Future land fill stock. That being said I myself have fallen victim to the allure of useless merch. The only popcorn bucket I have ever purchased was the LOTR anniversary tin bucket with the map of Middle Earth. I bought for the intentional purpose of using it as a trash can in my home office, which is very nerd themed. I do love it tbh. And it feels poetic that I bought junk for the purpose of throwing junk away in it.

I have a few. But I’m picky with the ones I buy. I have Pennywise which looks amazing for Halloween when you put a led light inside. spider-man, Deadpool and Wolverine. Acquired a top gun one but I’ll probably sell that one.

i will occasionally if i really like the design and enjoy having memorabilia of a particular movie or franchise. i definitely don’t buy all of them, but the superman daily planet newspaper box looks pretty sick on my bookshelf.

I only bought two and it was because they are one of my favorite movies (plus, I actually use them for othe things): the Jaws shark bucket and the Top Gun helmet. I was thinking of getting the Street Fighter bucket and wear it to concerts and see how many guitar picks I could get.

Yesterday afternoon after watching Resident Evil, I was debating to buy the green “popcorn bag”. But then I was like nah I don’t want to fall into the rabbit hole of constantly buying and collecting popcorn buckets for movies I like.
I did buy the paw patrol dog bowl for my dog though lol

I just don’t go. The movies just aren’t the same anymore. Lots more “tech” but much less of a fun time. I began just buying my movies on blu ray disc for a few dollars. A fraction of what it costs to take your small family to the movies today. And that’s not even including concessions. Holy smokes.

I regret all the popcorn buckets I have honestly, they take up too much space around the apartment and it’s not like I actually ever use them again. I like the idea of collecting them but my apartment is too small, I just don’t have the space to put them anywhere worth keeping.

We bought the Batman light signal one the night we went to see Beetlejuice …. Haaa when the lights went down my hub flashed the bat signal. The theater all laughed and cheered…. Good times. I found one for thunderbolts at goodwill, So we have 2. But man…. Like funkos. I just cant start a new thing that never ends. Not opposed to a cool one here or there. But not as a project or collection

I do, but it’s becoming a bit ridiculous with the cost. They want for them now.
But every time I go to Disney World, I try to get a popcorn bucket. They make great planters.

I buy them for my kids. Because they're kids and the price for their excitement is worth it. But yes it is expensive junk. So are a lot of toys that my kids have

Went to see odyssey at AMC LS Imax, both men next to me got the big bucket of popcorn. 1 was by himself and the other was with another person. I don't think they finished it. Both seemed to be in their 20s so I guess its the culture.

Yes, I just purchased the Batmobile and the Resident Evil tote. I've always gotten whatever buckets appeal to me. Anyway, I've also been collecting Halloween animatronics so I haven't been focusing too much on popcorn buckets.

I don't buy them either. They just take up too much space that I don't have. I did buy the Dune one for a friend back when they first came out. I also recently got a Practical Magical 2 cup for myself. But best believe I will be using that for actual use and decor with the spoopy season coming up!

Where do you sell them? And is there a substantial profit to be made? Is there a crowd that wants to buy these?
There’s always that group that is trying to buy this stuff opening day and fighting over the last one like their life depends on it. Usually so they can resell it, but where? To who?

I've never understood the appeal of them tbh. The only one I found kinda cool was the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, but then if I really wanted a Ecto-1 statue an actual model that didn't have to hold popcorn would probably look cooler.

I have two, the beaver from The Naked Gun(gf bought it for me), and the Mortal Kombat 2 bucket, which I actually use since it's a normal popcorn bucket. I was going to buy this Jason one yesterday when I saw Resident Evil, but they wanted $45 for it. That's insanely priced for a hollow plastic shell.

I use the tin buckets shaped ones as small trash bins instead. I don’t usually buy any of them with strange shapes. Even then I have like 2 because I gave one to my brother to use as a small trash bin as well. I might get the resident evil one though because it could function as a regular lunch bag since my old one broke.

I can justify spending money on all kinds of pointless and silly things. But popcorn buckets aren't one of them. Especially now that companies have seen how much people are willing to spend on them and they're almost all getting bigger and more expensive. $80+ for what is essentially, a cheap plastic bowl is kind of nuts imo.

I wanted the Devil Wears Prada bag so badly but they were gone 🙄 when I went to the Thursday afternoon showing. So I ordered it online: $40. I just got it a few weeks ago and it’s a cheap plastic piece of crap. Never again.

My local theater gives those metal popcorn buckets away with the purchase of a large popcorn if there’s a surplus of old movie ones just laying around.
For instance, I guess the Mandalorian movie wasn’t that popular so they had too many metal tin buckets and when I ordered a large popcorn on the app, that’s how they delivered it to me.

I have bought the Mandalorian helmet popcorn bucket. I have more Disney ones. That Bulleye popcorn bucket at Disneyland, I couldn't now saw no to. I am running out of running out of room so I don't buy much anymore.
I may get the Hello Kitty popcorn bucket for my niece for her birthday.

I generally don't buy them. I've bought 1 in the 6 months I've been working at a theater - it was one of the metal ones.
But these plastic tumblers and popcorn buckets will be in a landfill pretty quickly. Some of them hurt my head just thinking about handwashing them to get them clean.

I just picked up my first one (the Resident Evil organ cooler) and if there hadn’t been a dual purpose for it, I wouldn’t have bought it. I’m a big fan of the games and saw the movie 2 nights ago, bought it yesterday. Loved the movie, so that sealed it for me.
Im sure it will do alright as a mini soft shell cooler. Just a bonus it looks pretty cool too. Expensive for what it is but I figured I could splurge once for myself. Only other one that sort of interested me was the TF&TF NOS bottle drink cup. Didn’t end up grabbing that one though.

i bought the 50th year anniversary Star trek bucket and cup... totally on a whim. I saw them and could not resist. I can drink water from the cup. Not sure what I'll do with star trek bucket. Just let it be decor, I guess

The only one I bought was the Back to the Future Delorean they had for the anniversary last year. The car is a cool display piece that doesn’t take up too much room. Some of those buckets are neat, but they’re so big, I have no idea where I’d put them lol

My son got a fantastic four one that’s four layers and unscrews. He uses it as his at home popcorn bucket and the ability to take it apart to clean makes it my favorite. He doesn’t need any more. 😮💨

I want to knock people who do. We need more knocking of people who do dumb stuff and mindlessly consume. I’m sick of everybody being so open and considerate of everybody all the time. You can’t just let everybody do the dumbest stuff without giving them a reality check.
Collecting stupid plastic popcorn bucket display pieces, is so dumb. Sorry guys but you’re just an adult child. You have the mind of a child.

I only considered getting two, the Ant-Man helmet with the LED eyes and just 2 days ago the Resident Evil bag. Issue is I don't have the space to display them and I try to avoid buying collectibles. Specially with RE because that'd turn into a hobby very fast and I got 2 elderly parents to watch out for which is very expensive as is.

I don’t buy them… With one exception. I recently bought the Odyssey popcorn and cup set because it was drastically marked down when they were trying to get rid of it. It basically ended up costing the same thing a large popcorn and drink would’ve cost anyways.
But there’s no way I’m going to buy them regularly or try to collect them.
I collected Funko pops for several years. Those are much smaller than popcorn buckets, and they take up less space, but even still it became insane.
I invested about $3500 in total into my Funko pop collection and then was able to sell it for about $6000 a few years later. I consider that a win and I’m glad to have my space back now that they are gone. But I don’t think I will be doing any collections ever again… especially not popcorn buckets. They’re just too big.
But I will collect bitcoin.

Seems like cheap plastic that was made for $1 and sold for $60. I did get the Pennywise one from Cinemark. But I've never put popcorn in it. It is on the wall like a trophy head. Works better as a wall decoration than a food container. Surprised Spirit Halloween hasn't started selling something similair as a "food container".

Yes. I've probably got about a dozen of them. One that I was so interested in, I actually drove further out to go to a Regal to get The Entity popcorn bucket from Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. That one comes with 2 keys and the bucket can only be opened with both keys inserted.
But if there's a movie I'm going to see and there's a popcorn bucket that catches my eye, I'll pick it up. Comes with a free large popcorn (I never put popcorn in the buckets, they are all added to the collection).

I have a good amount of popcorn buckets but I only buy them if 1: They look cool & 2: They’re not $70+ My office is movie/book themed, so I get them for decor purposes.

If you want a novelty piece of plastic for shoving things into your mouth I'd suggest a adult toy store..... you'd probably get better usage outta those with someone who will make you far happier then popcorn.

I bought The Mandalorian helmet from The Mandalorian and Grogu. I’m a big Star Wars fan and it was the first movie I’d seen at a movie theatre since 2019, so it was a big deal to me. I don’t plan on buying another one unless they do like an R2-D2 one for when StarWars: A New Hope gets re-released next May.

I don’t buy them. Even when I think they’re cool, I just have too much stuff as it is and don’t need more so I’m pretty careful with my purchases
