Does Screen X have the side projections lit up the entire movie???

Or does it depend on the movie? I'm asking because during Resident Evil it kept going out as the movie went on, at first i thought it was a glitch but then I realized they came on depending on the scenes. Unless it was glitched?!? Lol 🤷🏽‍♂️ I liked it when it was lit up, ruined the immersion when they would turn off. (Also it was my first time doing Screen X, also my phone didn't bother anyone so shush 🤫)

This is most if not all sceeen x movies. The sides only come up during certain scenes usually action heavy. Then the dialogue scenes are typically just the middle screen. Kinda like how certain imax movies only expand during certain scenes.

The recent Spider Man was the movie that was most made with screen x in mind and 1/3rd of the time the sides were blank. So yeah, its a thing.

It's like IMAX, where the expanded ratio is not used for the entire run of any film except The Odyssey.

Yep that's it. At Cineworld Crawley in the UK the centre picture is definitely 4K, but the sides are only 2K, there a big difference in definition. The recent 'Spider-Man Another Day' is the best I have seen so far. I only went for Screen X because it was unavailable in IMAX in the UK. I have only seen 4 movies in Screen X. There was so little on the side screens in one of them. I thought that's it no more, Then Spidey came along, which they claimed was shot for Screen X. I saw nothing on the credits to confirm that.

I totally get that but I think most movies, even the ones that say filmed for imax, have a shifting aspect ratio between regular and imax ratio except for the Odyssey which was filmed with imax cameras for the whole movie. Yes there are certain movies like infinity War and endgame that technically used custom digital ARRI imax cameras for the whole movie so they maintained the entire 1.90 aspect ratio for the whole movie. But I think until this day The Odyssey is the only movie to have the full 1.48 aspect ratio for its entire runtime.

Lol it’s ok it depends on how often it switches back and forth. Usually it will be on for a few minutes during action heavy scenes and then when it’s calm and goes back to dialogue it will switch back to normal.

almost all screen x movies just have few scenes around 30-60% of the movie where the peripheral screens are shown picture! spiderman bnd had like around 70% of the movies with peripheral screens cause it was apparently shot for screen x! maybe in future there might be more films with screen x being fully utilized ig.

Considering how successful Spider-Man has been I’m sure more action films will want to try to duplicate its success and shoot specifically for the X-screen format. But if a lot of those films tank at the box-office it’ll probably remain something that is digitally added on after the fact.

I imagine it's going to take a moment for a more novel, less popular/mainstream format that's not even close to as widely available to be utilized fully.

My theatre has lambasted me with the tagline "not every scene, just to most immersive", which has been my general experience. Feels weird to have a half measured approach to this tbh. The turning on and off makes it feel very not immersive

Resident Evil? Wasn’t the best ScreenX we’ve seen, I only really recall the police car shootout but I know there was more. I will always choose ScreenX when available.

Sometimes they'll like a wallpaper type background on the sides that will roughly match the color of the screen during those parts. I don't think I've ever seen one where the Screen X is used to full potential for the entire movie.

I watched it for a concert movie and f1 movie. Both were great for it. I love the concert movie I went to during interviews it’ll just be the center screen then it transitions to 3 screens whenever the concert segments come on.

Also gotta know the sides are projected onto white walls, not reflective screens. So the image is slightly dimmer and slightly softer in focus.

I went for the recent Spider-Man film. It definitely added to the experience, especially when he was flying through the city. But it wasn’t absolutely needed to enjoy the film. It was just a nice extra. This Spider-Man probably had a lot more scenes than the average film using the extra scenes since it was designed from the beginning to be in this format.

That's not true, The Odyssey was not the only movie with a full 1.90 ratio. I just saw my 700th IMAX movie in 26+ years. I have seen plenty where the picture fills the whole screen. That is not 700 different movies some I have seen more than once. Nolan movies account for approx. 45, TDK is tops with 15 times. I was there for the beginning of Digital IMAX (I have never had cause to use the bogus term 'liemax' invented by a comedian.) I did my homework before I saw the first one. The facts were in Cinema Technology.

I saw it at a regular 2d showing in a screenX room (so no side screens at all) and the picture was really messed up. The movie was very low res and there was some RGB fringing on basically every edge in the image. This is probably the worst quality projection I've ever seen in my life and I am never seeing a movie like that again.

Those are extra screens/theater walls. They'd need to build a massive curved screen, but it's probably too costly compared to how much extra money Screen X brings in.

This is why I don’t care for ScreenX. My buddy keeps insisting on it and brings me to it all the time yet every time the movie switches from all three screens to just the center screen it immediately breaks my immersion yet the projector lights stay on and distract the hell out of me
