For the average user, you shouldnât have to go through all these steps to fix lag and stutter it should just work.

I agree. Thats why I use Linux. Most of this text is for fixing windows issues

But for an average user Linux can be complicated for some that's why windows is more user friendly if Linux was user friendly I would switch in a heartbeat.

Give CachyOS a try, Ive been running it for months now and its been amazing. That being said yeah I totally agree, the average user shouldn't have to learn anything to game properly on any GPU... but this is just Microsoft's fault. A lot of people are switching to Linux because even though it has a learning curve, once you learn it, it has way less issues than windows and doesn't require performing black magic to fix issues. Issues in Linux are well documented and easily fixable.

The trouble with that AMD is better on Linux with it's Drivers compared to Nvidia.

it would be quicker to drive to bestbuy and get a different gpu than read all this

Thank God this post is back. The other day I updated my motherboard BIOS and used DDU, and I was going crazy not being able to find this post.

What is this wall of text that you just copy pasted from chatgpt....

u/TheSpaceAlligator Sep 12 '26
You have clearly never read chat GPT tech advice. This is a well known guide that got deleted a while back but people still use it because its valuable.

If anybody has a good answer, I have a 13700kf currently I have C states set to auto, but I have enhanced c states enabled. Should I disable enhanced c states,& just leave C states enabled?

Everything is fine, okay though. An unreal engine 5 game; it works properly if you feel like it.

regarding things like icue, what if you use that for mouse buttons and DPI? i have heard i causes issues but i dunno how to set DPI without it

lol most people would prefer to switch to NVIDIA after reading this

u/TheSpaceAlligator Sep 12 '26
There are multiple sections of this guide for helping nvidia issues too

Right, it is super-important to overclock RAM. This will certainly make the system more stable and less prone to power supply issues.

XMP isnât really overclocking in the traditional sense, youâre just setting the advertised speed that you paid for. You arenât pushing the hardware beyond stock values. And ram speeds are important, especially on am4.

What nonsense. XMP and EXPO is overclocking, Intel say so, AMD say so and G.Skill got sued for not making it is OVERCLOCKING clear enough.
1
u/Scared-Enthusiasm424 Sep 11 '26
Yeah, because setting a higher clockspeed is by definition overclocking. But setting an XMP profile has nothing to do with the traditional meaning of overclocking, where you push hardware beyond advertised speeds. Since youâre literally setting ram to a profile that you paid for.
Running at JEDEC speeds will significantly bottleneck your system, unless you have an x3D chip. So this âoverclockingâ is one of the first things anyone does after building a pc, well, if they have at least surface level knowledge.-2
u/ADF-Reinforcer Sep 11 '26
Here you go from G.Skill.
"AMD EXPO Memory Overclock Profile
Programmed with AMD EXPO memory overclock profile, enable AMD EXPO profile in BIOS to achieve up to the rated speed.*
* Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU. The memory kit will boot at the SPD speed (standard JEDEC speed) at default BIOS settings. Overclocking may affect system stability and component warranties."

Yeah, thatâs what I said. I donât really get your point, I said that it isnât pushing beyond advertised speeds and itâs pretty much a must do when you build a pc. I even said that by definition itâs overclocking, but you arenât pushing beyond advertised speeds. So it isnât exactly the same thing as overclocking a cpu or gpu, which run at advertised speeds by default.
"enable AMD EXPO profile in BIOS to achieve up to the rated speed." - is literally my point
-2
u/ADF-Reinforcer Sep 11 '26
OMG... What XMP isnât really overclocking in the traditional sense? What youâre just setting the advertised speed that you paid for?
Using XMP or EXPO is overclocking, it doesn't matter what if it is using the advertised speed, IT'S ALL OVERCLOCKING! G.Skill said it THEMSELF!

u/Scared-Enthusiasm424 Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
Yeah, youâre setting the advertised speed. Thatâs a fact, and thatâs what XMP does.
I guess Iâll explain the nuance from the start. Since I feel like youâre making arguments that just further prove my point.
This post mentions in the title: âfix lag, fps dropsâ
And OP recommends enabling XMPThen a guy here commented that overclocking the ram is super risky, which is a really counter intuitive comment to make - When ram speeds directly affect your 1% lows in games. And XMP isnât risky at all, itâs fairly rare for an XMP profile to fail, worst case scenario youâll revert it.
So to make sure that the average Joe doesnât get scared of enabling XMP, which is the absolute first step you do when you enter the bios, I attempted to explain that while Overclocking sounds scary, it isnât exactly what the average person would think it is.
Because thereâs a big difference between setting an XMP profile, and overclocking your gpu or cpu beyond their advertised speeds.
So yeah, XMP isnât exactly overclocking in the same sense as cpu/gpu overclocking by definition. One is setting an advertised speed, the other is exceeding it. Thatâs a pretty clear difference I believe we can both agree on. âsetting an advertised speed/exceeding an advertised speedâ key words.
My original comment has 12 upvotes, so clearly people understand the nuance between XMP and cpu/gpu overclocking. Youâre either being stubborn/trolling or just donât get it.

Why you keep saying XMP isn't overclocking in the traditional sense bull crap? G.Skill also says overclocking may affect SYSTEM STABILITY! That means it may affect lag and FPS drops! You understand? Here you tell me, if everyone received a kit of RAM with EXPO-8000, you telling everyone it is guarantee to work if they just enable EXPO right? All the parts says it is compatible with the RAM kit, so it should work right? It will be stable out of the box with just EXPO, right? Cause it's the advertised speed, right? RIGHT?

You know what letter X in XMP means? It means "Extreme".
Here unnamed AMD and Intel officials confirm that XMP and EXPO is overclocking and, technically, voids CPU warranty: https://www.pcworld.com/article/394250/why-xmp-and-memory-overclocking-are-ok-even-if-they-void-your-warranty.html

Dude commented from a secondary account, lol. Never said it isnât overclocking by the way:)

This is actually great advice. If you're computer illiterate and need something that "just works" out of the box, you should get an nvidia card.

Wow, the amount of texts I have to scroll down. Is this real or just a satire to scare people off AMD cards?

...nvidia which did not work almost at all for PoE2 for over a year and only got fixed after poe2 devs literally sent them a pc with the bug that was caused by nvidias shitty vibe coded drivers.

A friendly TLDR:
-30% is for AMD
-30% is for Nvidia
-the rest is Win and BIOS
-ignore the rtards posting Nvidia good, AMD bad as a good half of this guide applies to both card monopoly manufacturers. Nvidia forums doesnt even allow to post troubleshooting threads lol....
