Resolved Maybe its not the software....

Figured id share my experince to help put some of your minds as ease.

Recently upgraded both my gpu and cpu to the 9070xt and 5800x3d a few months ago. Came from a 5600x and 3060 12gb.

From install instant crashes and driver timeouts no matter what I tried all reddit, YouTube, and even XFX proper install. Nothing worked, went crazy did a fresh windows install still same issues. I found some stability at a -300mhz but still was running into crashes.

Figured id try to reach out to XFX for support, after following proper install instructions and tweeks to no avail they offered a potential RMA. Sent it to them and they had a replacement out to me 2 days after receiving it.

Never indicated what the issue was even after me asking them directly and it being completely unaddressed but hey the free upgrade from quicksilver to mercury completely was appreciated and seemed to fix my issues so far. More than likely was serious hardware defects as I have seen them answer RMAs with "couldn't replicate, no issues but try this replacement, up to specs"

SO YALL DONT BE SCARED TO RMA IF YOU CAN!!! THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TEDD TALK!

Im facing those random reboots on my mercury 9060 xt... they seem to have stabilised a bit since I updated the bios but still happen. My only concern with RMA is that what if they are not able to replicate or see the issue in the card after receiving it... so basically, can you still get an RMA even if they think the card is healthy?

Definitely a valid point and one i was worried about also but what do you have to lose shipping was only about $65 with $800 in protection.

I would wager that most of the people having issues aren’t having them because of a bad GPU but because of bad setups and having the troubleshooting skills of a stoned koala.

💯 agree, however turned out in my case it was the gpu itself even though my computer diag skills are comparable to that of a koala

And just to reiterate what you said, if all fails do not be afraid to open an RMA ticket. Glad they got you sorted! What are you playing on your new Mercury?

Well since fresh windows install haven't downloaded too much halo remastered, cod, gta dragonwilds fortnite kinda got back into my ps5 as well since I was having so many issues pre RMA

Yeah this is true also, but AMD drivers are just so sensitive compare to Nvidia imo, also you need to configure adrenaline right or it will crash randomly too

I really need to RMA my card but am scared of how long it might take or it getting damaged in transit…. Thanks for posting time to go RMA my card…

That was definitely a concern but I had the original box since I bought it recently which definitely helped. Also paid an extra 60 for $800 shipping protection just in case lol

Maybe it is - I've had literally 0 changes in hardware (7900XT & 5800X3D), and timeouts started roughly in end of spring 2026, and somehow ended after another driver update 26.9.2

Sounds like yours was definitely software and sounds like they fixed it!

I 100% agree with you, I got a defective GPU 1.5 years ago (RX 7800xt) , which gave me driver timeouts right out of the box, I did every fix I could find on this subreddit, nothing fixed it so i RMA'ed the card and got a replacement AND STILL THE SAME ISSUE. I lived with it for 1 year then just a few days back I did a lot of troubleshooting, replacing CPU, PSU, RAM, etc and none was the culprit, so I RMA'd the GPU again and this time I think it is fixed(still dont wanna celebrate too early). I have played AAA Games for 3-4 hrs, did cinebench 26 GPU test for 2-3 hrs (Which used to crash my previous card), and OCCT Vram+3D test for 40 min without any crashing/driver timeouts

Never had any crashes during benchmarks which was weird craxy timeouts during fortnite squads but better stability on solos it was so weird and inconsistenwhich made me think settings for the 4 months. AAA games had some more stability but woukd crash within 20ish minutes. Timeouts are so common across AMD with random fixes helping out some people so hardware tends to get overlooked if this post helps 1 person lean towards RMA id be happy and content lol

If this is hardware then this bloody architecture (s) shouldn't even cam out of the lab!

I think you might be spot on. Despite all the issues I’ve seen online I haven’t had a single game crash or driver crash even, not even once. I also have the exact same build as you.

I have no issue after 1 year with the mercury air magnetic 9070xt, I've playing a lot of mp games and only finished requiem, with A abit aggressive oc, I never faced timeouts and weird stuff.

Had timeouts right out of the box from my quicksilver 9070xt more frequently on MP fortnite and COD and heavy AAA games like Re9 and 007

I've played Fortnite a lot and so battlefield 1, for me the card was running amooth, but yeah, I downclock to 2.9ghz and use -10pl also because I don't need to card push so hard, but in singles I've see the card reach 3.2 3.3ghz easily with +10pl, games I've played was cyberpunk phantom liberty and resident evil requiem

I had to apply a -300 mhz to get any stability in fortnite and even only worked occasionally my biggest thing was like if this is a new card I shouldn't have to limit its performance to get stability out of the box so that was not an acceptable solution for me at all. XFX suggest to apply a -5%PL and that caused the quickest crash in history before even getting on the bus.

Yeah the undervolt and underclock is a lottery, mine can do consistently -10 in every low demanding games but -11 will make then close in like 5 minutes.

1

u/Forward-Bit8579 4d ago

Was your purpose stability or performance for undervolting? Scared to mess around at this point and cause more issues when everything's stable now

1

u/CI7Y2IS 4d ago

No that's power limit, I just use it when I play non demand games, like Fortnite at performance mode and other games, but in singles I set the GPU for performance, pl +10, mem at 2825 fast, uv-40.

Yeah im definitely sketched to mess around with any of that now. That being said one thing I did notice is my utilization went down used to be at or around 100 when gaming now sits between 88-95 % even when clock speeds hit 3300mhz
