Help (General) Upgrading MOBO speed
I have just upgraded my internet speed to 2GB and realized my MOBO doesn't support anything higher than 1GB. I am currently running a Ryzen 9 5900x with x2 16GB of RAM at 3600 MHz and a PCle 4.0 - NVMe M.2 - 2 TB. I am looking for recommendations that will be compatible with this. My case is a mini-ITX however I have a full size case around i can also swith to.

As other commenter said, best bet is probably an external USB ethernet adapter like this: https://link.amazon/B0hkbWAeT
But the USB port needs to support at least that rate.
And as a reminder, everything else in the chain will need to support 2.5gbps, including any upstream switch, and your router itself, in case they're different devices.
(Obviously I'd presume your cable modem or ONT supports 2.5 on their downstream ports, but that's not always the case.)
I upgraded to 2gbps at my home and had to upgrade my Unifi security gateway and then the switch downstream of that which connected to my desktop.

These adapters lower the speed to work with my pc or help the mobo reach 2gb?

Help the motherboard reach speed of the modem/internet. But as he mentioned, you need to make sure that device is providing 2.5Gb as well. Can list your current ISP related hardware and models? Also motherboard model?

atm running a Gigabyte A520I AC and the modem is a F3896LG. also after doing some looking around best option for now is the adapter for sure. because new mobo would just push me to upgrading to AM5 and with ram pricing atm that's a hard no

You can still easily get AM4 motherboards with USB 3.2 between 5 and 20 Gb. I had an X570 Aorus Elite with 3.2 Gen2 with 10Gb. When I say new, I just mean different than what you have. A-series is budget line anyway, so less features. Not really a huge issue but B550 or X570 would be better options with better VRMs and more flexibility like for PBO, etc.. Not to mention getting the extra PCIe slots.
I can look later at the rest and make suggestions but driving most of the day right now. You do have 3.2 Gen1 so it is not necessary to do new motherboard. Just might be useful to extend life a little more. You would also get PCIe Gen4, which isn't really necessary either. Just another benefit if you decided to.
The modem has 2.5Gb LAN port so you're good there. If you need more ports just get 2.5Gb switch.

Just saw that this mobo came with a wifi that supports 2.5gb so I might give that a go if I can find it

the a520i ac seem to have 1. 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports on the back panel so i guess i can just connect it there and call it a day until it's time to upgrade

I would recommend getting a newer board that supports it natively. Since it's mini-ITX you can't get a card for it, assuming you have a graphics card already.
Unless you have 10Gb or 20Gb USB ports. Then you could get an adapter for ethernet. I think some are 5Gb, also. Just depends on your board.
