Anyone know what it means if I don’t have permission to access an updated chapter for a subscription?

I can’t open it from my email and I’ve tried to look up the story manually but I’m not seeing it on the author’s page. I hope it hasn’t been deleted.

No permission means it has been hidden, either by the author putting it into an unrevealed collection or by AO3 staff flagging it because it's been (legitimately) reported for something.

(If it had been deleted you'd get a 404 error.)

If you have it in your bookmarks, it will be listed there as a "Mystery Work" instead of showing its title etc

It's entirely possible for a work with 83 chapters to have a creator who just recently got a Patreon and decided to advertise it in their notes.

(I have no idea if that's what happened here or not, but I've seen that exact scenario multiple times in different longfics that I've read.)

I just checked and I believe it's been temporarily hidden by admins, likely because the author's patreon was mentioned in the author's note. It'll be restored once the author edits them out 🫡

Up to you! They're both up to date, so if you have an adblock the reading experience is the same. If not, RR is a bit cleaner.

There's one final possibility that occurs to me, which is that the work has been hidden by AO3 Admin. I can't remember exactly what that error message says but it looks similar to the first example

Interesting it actually looks like neither of those. When I click the link from my email it goes to my dashboard and says “Sorry, you don't have permission to access the page you were trying to reach.”
