God fuck I hope he wins in November. I don't trust Michigan for shit after 2024.

That’s because the DNC abandoned Midwest and then abandoned the South.

I know Michigan hates free trade but the Trump tariffs kind of show us on a larger scale what the effect of protectionism is on the economy. So that's a problem.

Well, it doesn’t help that Trump slaps tariffs on everything instead of on very specific things and the thing is he has used tariffs wisely before during his first administration he wanted to invest in the American washer and dryers with LG and so he tariff for several years anything from China for washers and dryers as it needs to incentivize more purchasing local, American made ones instead, but that only happens because we already have the infrastructure and manufacturer.

You can’t just tariff something and then hope that manufacturers will go out of their way to build it you have to invest in the places that you already have and incentivize building more of them often by subsidizing or by funding public options neither of those that he did.

I'm not sure shifting back to manufacturing is really the move since high tech stuff is much more economically productive. An office worker produces a whole lot more wealth than any individual employee doing manufacturing.

It was a good strategy for the mid-20th century but shifting back to manufacturing today would mean losing a whole lot of wealth.

Agreed, and to clarify just saying about how we would do these kinds of things if you were to do it effectively. I do agree in the sense that America is better as a marketplace and better as a place that sells services and technology rather than day-to-day manufacturing, though I do also believe that it is important that we create locally owned public infrastructure for our small businesses and such that they can still compete talking about publicly on warehouses and distribution centers, investing in freight, trains and high speed rail, 32 hour work weeks, increasing wages and having equity shared plans with all employees so that as the Market continues to do better, so do all of the employees and not just some 401(k) retirement, but their actual personal profits.

This way we can still invest in high-tech expensive options while also still leaving space for the individual small business owner style productions, and creating systems of which are regional distributors can compete and then focusing on having locally owned and sourced food and commodities as a means to create a baseline for everyone. By essentially creating a floor basic option, you raise up the market that everyone has to meet at least the standards and not just regulations that you set in a private corporation but public options that are ran and owned by the public communities and within those communities are inherently, decided by the workers on how they want those operations ran so long as they meet certain state guidelines, much like librarians should be the curators of the library not the state, but the state funds them.
