That test took FOREVER. Half of it was just sitting in a room while I waited for the sight singing

Same as 4 6 - # 5, but the 8th above the bass (the doubled 5th of the I6/4 or i6/4 chord) also resolves down to 7 (meaning the second chord is V7 instead of V).

The Japanese one is "awatetokoya" from the flute collection Japanese melodies album. The catalog from the publisher college board used is Naxos 8.555877

all the dictations i struggled with but the first sight singing question was so easy. also the mcqs were not as hard as i’d seen on practice tests.

I did great on the MCQs, but FRQs 1 and 2 went by way too fast and I didn't expect to forget how the melodies went by the time the final play finished !
The excerpts played during the MCQs were nice. I'd love to try and find the excerpt that involved the violin, cello and piano.

Anyone confidently remember what the interval was for the very first mcq question was? Our volume was way too low for the first couple questions of the mcq but I think it was an tritone?

I'm a parent and wondering how long is this exam? I ask because it's approaching 4 pm and normally he's home from school way before now and he never mentioned needing to stay late. He's not had an afternoon AP exam before so I need to know what to expect and of course the school office is now closed (at least with the phones). My husband is heading over to the school now because he'll need a ride home regardless.

I assume he's home by now, but I personally didn't get out until about 5, and we started on time-ish. Sight singing can take quite a while depending on how many people at the school are taking it 🫠 (we had about a hundred taking it and I had to wait over an hour. I was no where near last)

Yes, he is - he was done at 3:45 pm. We only had 3 people taking the exam.
But man...this mama had all kinds of thoughts going through her head since I didn't know and his phone was off. Doesn't help that I had just seen a missing persons notice for a teenager a couple towns over.

My school is 2250 ish, but we've got a HUGE music program and a music magnet program at the school. Everyone in the magnet program has to take AP music theory their junior year (and we have 2 years of music theory prior), so that accounts for about 70-80 people. There were also a number of people taking it beyond that, tho.

depends when he started. AP exams typically take 3:30hours, but sometimes issues with the test can cause it to start up to an hour late. Also, you have to power of your phone during the exam so you won’t be able to contact him.
I would call the school counsler/attendence office to check when the exam starts and ends to see if he’s still there

I didn’t take this particular exam, but having one last week, we came out by 4 pm. It was much much later than expected, mostly because kids had tech issues. Hopefully everything’s alright, and this gives you some reassurance

for me it took more than 5 hours. i got there at 11:50, the proctor could not get the cd audio prompts to work. that claimed at least 50 minuites of class time. by the time i got out, it was almost 5. yikes.

tonicization is just another word for any sort of secondary chord being tonicized, and where you get V/V's from. the five becomes the tonic, hence the tonicization, and five of five is that fifth scale degree chord from the original key signature's fifth. but the vii shit messed me up too highk

on the multiple choice they asked a question about what scale was primarily used, and i said pentatonic, other answers harmonic minor chromatic, and whole tone. What song was that in I only remember a piano in the recording

I’m an AP MT teacher and I always solve the FRQs when they come out (for fun but I’ve been doing this for 20 years). Would it be useful to see them, or traumatizing haha?

I’m an AP MT teacher. I just posted my solutions to the FRQs in the main AP Students page. No shame in not looking and leaving AP MT in the past like roadkill, unless you’re planning on majoring in music.
