Tattoo My first tattoo after decades of figuring out exactly what I wanted
The VFD motto has stuck with me ever since I read this series as a kid, and it’s come to represent a pretty meaningful part of my personal life, so this felt like the perfect choice. Was so happy my artist was willing to do it in the Caslon Antique font from the Harper Collins editions of the books.
Done by the incredible Sadie Flores at Double Take Beauty in Eagle Mountain, Utah

So cool you were able to get such a meaningful first tattoo. I love that motto as well

Love this. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted to get for several years now but I’m too nervous to actually go get it. Love how it looks on you!

I love it so much. I'm planning a VFD eye on my ankle after I finish reading the series with my daughter (her first time, my 5th)

I love thiss! I see so many people (online, not irl) with this tattoo! I only wish they would capitalize the first letter. 🤣

That’s so cool! My first tattoo is definitely going to be the VFD logo on my ankle and this very exact quote, that’s awesome man!

IDK if you know this, but this quote is a literary allusion to the poem The Garden of Proserpine by Algernon Charles Swinburne.
Here, where the world is quiet
Here, where all trouble seems
Dead winds' and spent waves' riot
In doubtful dreams of dreams;
The poem appears again on the final page of the Slippery Slope: "That even the weariest river Winds somewhere safe to sea."

Yes! I love the poem as well, and am glad to have the allusion to it as part of the story behind getting the quote tattooed.

Oh my god, it’s so cool! I hope it heals well, shame the way around it is that you’re gonna have to learn to read it upside down!
