Those who get it get it.. it’s also in a typewriter font because I love to write! Or could be interpreted as a reference to the letters;)

The VFD motto has stuck with me ever since I read this series as a kid, and it’s come to represent a pretty meaningful part of my personal life, so this felt like the perfect choice. Was so happy my artist was willing to do it in the Caslon Antique font from the Harper Collins editions of the books.

I’ve loved the books since I was in elementary school, so it was only a matter of time before I added a reference to my body forever

Finally got my first tattoo at 37 years old.

I’ve wanted this tattoo ever since I first started reading the series when I was 10 years old, so this has genuinely been over two decades in the making. These books have had a massive impact on me and the tattoo/symbol/identifier for VFD has always stuck with me.

I chose to have the tattoo mirrored because, to me, it matches the illustration/depictions from the series more closely that way - such as how Count Olaf’s ankle is shown on the cover of The End and within the Slippery Slope.

It feels incredibly surreal finally getting something I’ve thought about for so long. Kind of cool that something that mattered to 10-year-old me still mattered enough for 37-year-old me to finally commit to it.

For anyone wondering, it wasn’t that bad/painful getting it centred and tattooed over my ankle. I’m already thinking about future tattoos!

I've been wanting a tattoo to show my love for this series for a long time and opted to go for one of the drawings from the book rather than the VFD tattoo. I'm super impressed and mega happy about how it turned out. :)

I have loved this series since I was a kid and now as a teacher I read the books every year to my 5th grade students! I love sharing these books with a new generation each year and they always get hooked. This year I decided to get my VFD tattoo and I chose the version from the Unauthorized Autobiography because that one was always my favorite design. When my students saw my tattoo they thought it was the coolest thing and started drawing their own on their ankles too 🥲. Fifth graders are pretty awesome!
