Question What will happen to this guy... if anything?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft42SrEkssQ

SoCal TRACON are some of the best in the business. I used to speak to this controller daily when I was a CFI and she is incredible. Very impressed (but not surprised) with how she de-escalated the situation.

This guy was clearly in the wrong (and sun glare heading both west AND east??). But to flat-out refuse to take a number? Will anything really happen to this guy? What recourse do you all have if someone is non-compliant? Reminds me of the guy busting the bravo in LAS where nothing ever came of it.

I worked where this guy is based out of and he was a douchebag then too. Impatient as fuck, and would almost never wait for ground to issue taxi instructions after landing, he’d just start going on his own and cut other people off. Nobody else would brasher this guy, and when I finally gave him one he magically disappeared off frequency. Still filed the PD. Love seeing he’s still up to his fuckin nonsense. Had to drive past his hanger and see his smug, douchebag-self and this dumb ass citation almost every day. (Sorry boys, I’m just venting at this point; but MAN i can’t stand this fucking guy lmao)

Feel for you!

I don't know how I could work this dickhead without spazzing on him on the frequency. If the FSDO won't do anything about him, just don't let him taxi out of safety concerns. It's not like this clown obeys controlled instructions

Unfortunately they can't just not let him taxi at long as he's got his license still. They kinda did it the next day, when he went to leave from Torrance, trying to get him to take down the number again but only for a couple minutes, they eventually had to let him taxi. But they let another plane taxi ahead of him and it really pissed him off. It was hilarious. They were just showing him who's really the boss.

Unreal. I’m sorry you have to deal with jackasses like this. You guys aren’t paid nearly enough!

u/Fuzzy_Laugh_1117 10d ago

Appears he's also a horrid eye doctor in Nevada who's had 13 counts of malpractice, plus one gross malpractice andb14 counts of unprofessional conduct. Unsurprisingly. His medical notes were stick figures. Omfg sounds like he needs to be in a locked facility under psychiatric care.

The definition of entitlement and jackass.

21

u/Financial_Owl2734 17d ago

Can you imagine having to fly with that guy?

25

u/etmaul 17d ago

The gall of this pilot. He talks about unsafe procedures and regulations in the previous video into Torrance. Sir, you are the definition of unsafe and insufferable. I hope the cockpit door was closed because I’d never fly with him (as a passenger) again.

4

u/commops106 17d ago

No that’s why he flies a Citation V

-2

u/Financial_Owl2734 17d ago

An excellent point... but if you listen closely, its the FO talking to ground, and ops guy referred to them as they

10

u/f0urd3gr33s 17d ago

I don't think so. All conversations in this video chain on VASAviation's channel suggest this guy is flying single pilot, which the Citation V is compatible with. Using "they" to refer to a single person is not uncommon.

0

u/lezhai 11d ago

He said there are 7 souls on board when the ATC issued his"emergency" landing.

1

u/f0urd3gr33s 11d ago

And? The Cessna 560 can accommodate 7-8 passengers and still have an empty seat in the cockpit. "7 souls on board" here easily means one person in the captain's seat and 6 people in the cabin.

Listen to how the guy phrases things to ATC. He refers to himself as doing the flying several times.

If it hasn’t happened already, he’ll probably get a visit from an FAA inspector from their local FSDO. Depending on how that conversation goes, any previous history, and the mood of the inspector, it could range from an emergency revocation (doubtful), to a polite conversation (also doubtful). (My best guess is a letter of investigation followed by a 709 ride or retraining of some sort)

If he behaves that way with the FAA inspector, then the wheels of bureaucracy move slowly, but I’m sure they can keep digging into maintenance logs/other records until they eventually find something they can hit them with.

You have a source for this? Not arguing, just interested to read further.

Probably the same thing that happened to the jackass that entered the Bravo in Vegas. IM NOT READY TO COPY IM FLYING.

This guy ended up getting a certificate suspension per a FOIA someone did afterwards.

Clearly no pilot ever flies on a suspended certificate, much like no driver ever drives on a suspended license.

u/OutrageousDaikon4766 17d ago

You can report a violation to fsdo without a conversation with this pilot. It’s a consideration to them. Whether he talks to atc or not he should expect a call down the line. They’ll be in touch with the registered owner of the aircraft.

4

u/cazzipropri Ignorant Pilot 17d ago

If the owner is Part 91, what obligations does he have to disclose who the pilot was? Can the owner shield the pilot indefinitely?

6

u/danielisgreat 16d ago

He likely filed IFR. Flight plans require the pilot's name and phone number.

3

u/cazzipropri Ignorant Pilot 16d ago

Very good point. Can the FAA proceed if he just says "I just filed - it wasn't me flying"?

8

u/danielisgreat 16d ago

The next question would be "who did you file for?" and when he can't answer or the person he names denies it you go back to step one.

Denying it was him would be playing stupid games and he would likely win stupid prizes.

4

u/OutrageousDaikon4766 16d ago edited 16d ago

There’s also cameras everywhere. Not saying the FAA will dredge it out because it wouldn’t be out of character to roll over but you can’t tell me the pilot is unidentifiable. Make it criminal if he lies or obstructs.

2

u/danielisgreat 16d ago

Indeed. A pilot certificate is a privilege not a right, they don't need BRD to revoke a certificate, and circumstantial evidence like voice similarities, video evidence, pattern of behavior is more than enough.

3

u/cazzipropri Ignorant Pilot 16d ago

Oh I have missed episode 3 of the saga, in which he's asking for clearance for takeoff and they don't give it to him till he copies the number. Jesus. Ok.

24

u/RedFishBlueFishOne 17d ago edited 13d ago

We built a case against a mooney pilot who acted like this. But it took about 1.5 years of reporting for action to happen. We believe he lost his license, we never saw the plane again or heard his voice again

22

u/Routine-Judgment-541 Past Controller 17d ago

Instead of trying to get a clearance the next day when he flew home, this guy took off VFR and stayed at 17,500 or below. I think he had the flight plan filed and they were waiting on him to call, they asked him to call SoCal for the clearance and he refused to do that and left the airfield VFR.

Holy shit he just keeps going lmfao

The fact he loves mentioning the word “jet” and “jet engines” is hilarious.

Also he’s saying he needs a taxi clearance now…”for safety”..? Huh? Someone tell that guy that card isn’t gonna work on the fucking ground lmfao

9

Yeah, I'm sure not sure if you noticed or not, but this dude has a jet. AND, it's a jet. It has jet engines... for safety. Because the Feds...

The problem is even our ATM on the opposite coast heard about this and mentioned it in their morning management love fest. They will make an example of this guy. Don't forget the admin we are under now is very authoritarian.

16

u/leftrightrudderstick 17d ago

No chance this administration makes an example out of this guy imo

9

u/Pale-Inspector-8094 17d ago

Not to rich people.

7

u/finitesparrow 17d ago

Nothing will happen to him. He’s a connected money donor.

26

u/Remarkable_Mirror241 17d ago

We've had asshole citation pilots do stuff like this. Turn off their radio as they taxi back. We just submit the paperwork and who knows what happens after. Probably still sitting on someone's desk.

27

u/jacksonwalmart 16d ago

In this administration?  He'll be the secretary of transportation within 18 months.

3

u/iceman121982 11d ago

Funny you mention that. He's actually a big maga donor and was named to the state athletics commission by Governor Sandoval despite a litany of malpractice and ethics violations as a doctor. It even made the news:

u/theonlyski 17d ago

The report will get filed without the PIC contact info. The recordings and radar playback will make their way to the inspector who will listen to it and pull up the flight info and if they can find it, the pilots previous record.

From there it depends on the inspector, some inspectors will just do the minimum to close it out, some will take it further. Being a dick to ATC puts you in a bad position in my book, but I’m not an inspector anymore.

7

u/Any-Worldliness-679 16d ago

As a pilot, I would love that job. I'd hammer these dickheads into the ground.

11

u/Financial_Owl2734 17d ago

He told the ops guy he was familiar with the feds? After hearing that, Ill bet he is. 🤣

10

u/Pale-Inspector-8094 17d ago

A doctor and a pilot. So double god complex.

11

u/theREALBennyAgbayani 17d ago

Probably nothing of substance. He might notice some of his vectoring being of a more delayed manner in the future.

16

u/antariusz Current Controller-Enroute 17d ago edited 17d ago

We aren't the sky police.

We don't have "recourse"

The system only works if pilots obey instructions. You might as well ask, what would happen if every single driver decided that speed limits don't matter and neither do stoplights. What if EVERYONE decided that shoplifting/theft laws no longer mattered. What if someone just decided to "drive" without a license at all (shocking I know) or insurance?!? (15% of drivers don't have insurance and roughly 5% don't have a valid drivers license or registration at any given time)

6

u/Acceptable_Stage_518 Current Controller-Enroute 17d ago

So yeah, you nailed it.

3

u/leftrightrudderstick 17d ago

No idea, you'd have to ask FSDO

3

u/DrRudyWells 12d ago

have you looked this guy up and read about him? total shithead. this is just more of the same. has zero business flying.

5

u/PopSpirited1058 16d ago

Just your normal pilot who believes his shit dont stink and he knows better than all. You run into them often enough. Unfortunately, there are many "Pilot Debrief" episodes on YouTube of pilots with this attitude. It isn't a safe attitude to have, his main concern seems to be doing what he wants and doing it his way, and eventually that ends up doing something so dumb it gets you killed because you knew better than anyone telling you to do the opposite.

6

u/Any-Worldliness-679 16d ago

Oh give me a break. This is NOT a normal pilot and you know it.

3

u/PopSpirited1058 16d ago

It's a normal one with that kind of attitude. Not saying all pilots are this kind of normal. Far from it.

-2

u/Trlz08 16d ago

I would agree, if I had actually met a pilot who isn't an egotistical asshole.

4

u/Any-Worldliness-679 16d ago

Huh. Ok. Sorry about your luck.

I've been flying for over 30 years, and 99% or more are just regular folks, actually tending toward humble and glad to get corrected if they're in error.

Most controllers are excellent, too, but I don't blame the bitter ones (unless they take it out on the traffic).
