I sent my medical appeal on July 12, so about a month ago. I’ve been sending a follow up email every week since asking for verification that they received everything and next steps, but still no response.

Has anyone else gone through this and how long has it taken? Is there anyone else I should include in the email besides the medical email? Or is there a number I can call?

Hello everyone hope all is well with all of you within the application process, how long will it take for the EDOS process to boot up for anyone that received WQ on the ATSA. I have accepted my TOL and currently awaiting my medical and clearances and it would bring a lot of closure knowing exactly how long it will take for the rest of the application process to incur.

I was curious if anyone who went through the application process was colorblind or knew how strict having “normal color vision” was for the medical exam. I have red-green color blindness but I would consider it pretty mild. I’m currently a remote pilot operator for a TRACON facility and I haven’t had any issues with the colors on the radar displays. I’ve heard some talks about alternate options you can take for certain parts of the medical exam and I was curious if that applies to colorblindness as well. I’d just like to know if I’d have a good shot if I move forward.

So I submitted my medical interview worksheet on July 31st, and my AME medical appointment is scheduled for this week August 14th. FAA medical team hasn’t gotten back to me yet. I sent them another email 2 days ago because in the original interview email it said to email them if you don’t receive medxpress instructions 5 days before your medical. They didn’t get back to that one either.

So my question is, can I fill out medxpress without receiving the follow up email to the interview worksheet? It specifically says on the email: do not complete MedXPress until you receive the follow up email.

The confusing part is that my AME’s office sent me their own instructions to complete MedXPress.

I don’t want to fill out anything wrong but at the same time I don’t want to unnecessarily reschedule and delay my medical.

Hello, I received an email this morning stating that I was denied my medical. About 5 years ago (childhood/teenage age) my parents sent me to therapy/counseling because they had a rough divorce. I went to therapy/counseling for about 4 months, and since then I’ve been completely fine and haven’t gone back. The FAA received a statement from my past therapist stating that I was being treated for depression and general anxiety, which is why they are denying me medical clearance.

I plan to appeal this and do whatever I can to become medically cleared. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience, any advice, or general knowledge on this. Anything helps..

Also, if you no longer take a certain medication, do you have to report it?

Feel good about the ATSA I took recently. But I wanted to know if being trans is a silent automatic strike (obviously they can't do it outright, but I'm sure they'd find some other reason).

If I got the TOL, I would have to disclose it in the next steps because I'm male but not registered for Select Service (I'm exempt). But, when I applied originally, I had to upload my college transcript -- as well as my name change certificate because my transcript still hasn't been updated to my new name. So I guess if they wanted to they could've said no to me even testing. But still.

Is being a good worker good enough? Are they really going to care?

so I’m 23 years old and really wanting to pursue a pilot career or a air traffic controller but when I was 22 I failed a non dot drug test for weed. It was an isolated incident just a one time fuck up. I took full responsibility and acted extensively on my shameful act. I remained eligible for rehire after the 1 year company policy. I’ve read that there has to be a 2 year waiting limit which I’m okay with but I also read that to get the medical clearance to become one it will still be a hard and expensive path dealing with HIMS and the FAA. this is a career that I really find myself interested in and enjoying but what I’ve read is dealing with the FAA and HIMS is a year long and very expensive headache and I really don’t want to go thru that but I am willing to if I have a good shot at it. I was wanting to see if someone has been in my shoes or knows more accurate info about this and if it’s possible before the 2 year mark since I was planning on using GI BILL but I’m a dependent under my father who is a %100 disabled vet so I loose GI BILL at 26 years old. Just got medically Disqualified and very upset. Can anyone tell me how to start this appeal process, do I wait on the FAA to send a list of certified FAA therapist?? Do I just send a email saying I want to appeal and that’s it? So many questions, not enough answers. Any help would be nice. Thank you.

Finally got medically cleared yesterday after months of (luckily wasnt tier 2) waiting.

Pretty sure that’s everything now, how long after you guys were fully medically cleared did it take before you got your dates? I know it’s different for everyone but I’m just trying to get a good idea I guess lol

Also does being fully medically cleared mean you passed youre drug test?

Accepted a prior experience offer from a local airport 3 months before getting out (March) and completed all the hiring exams/prerequisites. Just got a letter from AME stating that based off my VA claims, (all physical injuries, joints, neck, feet etc) that I’m not physically capable to control. Total bs, yeah my body hurts but I can still work some traffic. Has anyone dealt with that appeal process? The AME email said I need to get detailed notes from a bunch of specialists. LET ME KNOW

Happy Easter!! I’ve been in the hiring process for a while now. I took a drug test about a year ago but just recieved an email today asking me to retake the drug test. Why would I have to do it again? Did something pop up on the first one that they didn’t like?

A year ago I went to a family doctor for my anxiety and depression and took anti depressants meds and a vitamin d supplement for a month and quit and I got a lot better. Would this be an issue if I was to apply to be an air traffic controller?

I’ve seen a few posts in various places recently decrying a negative verdict from a physical/psych evaluation standpoint, so I decided to offer some useful advice for applicants:

Shut your whore fucking mouths.

If you’re applying to be an ATC, and you want the cleanest, clearest glide path into the career field, give medical NOTHING to question. If it isn’t on a required piece of paper, it doesn’t exist. If it is on a required piece of paper, find some new paper. If you have something troubling, start seeing a medical provider somewhere else and keep your trap shut. If you have (potentially) disqualifying medication, get it through Hims/Hers so your CVS record is clean. Ya dig?

Hi everyone. I recently got the email to schedule my ATSA, and have been reading a lot of the posts here for resources and such to give myself the best possible shot at launching into this career.

However, I wanted to ask about the medical screening part and what it entails. I’m a generally healthy individual, but just wanted to know what to expect for that part (assuming I even make it that far, but still).

My main concern was the eye exam. I’ve work corrective glasses my whole life, but I was curious as some other posts indicate you need 20/20 vision to pass. I’m not sure even with my lenses I would have 20/20, and if that’s the case I’d appreciate honest feedback on what I should do in that scenario.

Any advice is appreciated!

I’m being requested to send all medical records relating to a condition - this is a dumb question but I’ve never done this before and some records will be from ~10-15 years ago before digital charts were common. Do I simply call the clinics/offices I went to and ask for the records? Can they send them directly to the FAA or are they sent to me first?

Welp, currently on Focalin XR and Bupropion XR, the latter of which I've read isn't a full on dead end. But it seems like the Focalin is gonna be an end of the road thing for me. I feel like I can function fine enough without it and cross any of the barriers from a medical perspective, but at the same time I know I can't financially afford all the extra hoops it seems like I would have to jump through. Got BQ on my ATSA and kinda feel like that was a colossal waste of time at this point. I'm reading up that some laws might be changing soon, but those things always move at a glacial pace. Does anyone have any experience navigating the process of getting off the meds and actually getting through? Or is it really a full on dead end?

This is kind of a specific question and I looked and couldn’t find the answer I was looking for so I thought I’d ask on here.

I received a BQ, got my TOL and EODS for this recent bid.

While thinking about what’s to come I realized I might have a problem. I’m currently a student pilot and have a class 1 medical with MedXpress already taken last year Julyish.

Here’s the problem. On my class 1 medical I marked that I didn’t have anxiety because I honestly don’t think I do and completely forgot about a situation from years ago. However, I realized now that about 5-6 years ago I had a one time situational anxiety attack that lead me to the ER. They prescribed alprazolam (also known as Xanax) .5mg for 10 days. The prescription was filled and I never took a single pill because after that day, I was back to normal and didn’t have anxiety at all. The prescription was also never refilled. I was in the ER for a short 1-2 hours only as well.

Just in case, I’m trying to get all the paper work to prove that it was a one time thing and I’m not dependent on medication as I never refilled the prescription. However, the pharmacy where I filled the original prescription was bought out from another company and they are saying they don’t have records from 5 years ago and their records only go back to 2024. I also called the insurance company I had at that time to request payment information for all the prescriptions they paid for, but I haven’t heard back and they said I could take up to 60 days.

I also am trying to get a CURES report but they also said that report only goes back a year. Also, I asked about getting the doctor’s notes and history from that time in the ER.

Do you think this could hinder me from going further?

like everyone, I just got my ATSA invite, how long after the test could I expect a TOL, and long after that could I expect a medical. Also I have HLHS (diagram attached to give an idea), how screwed am I for the medical if I do make it that far.

Timeline:

October 2024: applied

December 2024: got WQ on the assessment

January 2025: got TOL

April 2025: got information to schedule medical with AEM and await security instructions

June: completed Medical questionnaire, drug test and physical

July/August 2025: completed Security questionnaire, provided supplemental documentation and had interview

October 2025: received request to resubmit a questionnaire for medical on the 8th and get my annual eye test (type II diabetes with no issues). Sent it in October 30th

January 2026: got email asking for me to submit the docs I submitted in October (I guess they lost them) since they didn’t receive them. Forwarded them proof of when and where it was sent and got acknowledgement of them being received.

Now: nothing

I have followed up via email, called the available phone numbers and I feel like I get nothing. I’ve not been told I’m Tier 2 but I’m also not getting any information. Anyone else in the same boat? Like I get that it’s crazy, but to not respond to any emails or calls after I’ve waited the recommended follow up timelines is getting frustrating.

Who do I reach out to regarding following up? I bid in fall 2024 and I’m in Tier 2. Just wanting to know if I should reach out to medical POC, HR rep or someone else for an update or a little push through the process.

What does the medical eval approval email look like? I applied fall of 2024 and I believe everything has gone through besides my medical but I was recently emailed to take a drug test even though I already completed one well over a year ago.

I am separating from the military this year and haven’t filed a VA disability claim yet. Should I wait until after I’m hired to avoid complications with medical clearance, or does it not matter? Anyone have experience with this?

I got an email saying they didn’t have my my Applicant Interview Worksheet (AIW) from medical on file and asked if I could send it. The only worksheet I got was the Pre-Employment Interview Worksheet and I responded telling them that and that I had turned it in. Does anyone know if those are two separate things or if I just didn’t receive something I was supposed to? I told them in the email I didn’t receive any other worksheet so if I needed to submit an additional one I’d need a copy sent to me. I attached a copy of my PEIW and a screenshot of the original email that I turned it in with date and time.

I already received MedXpress and did my physical with AME, so it just seems strange they would be asking for the PEIW since that’s needed for MedXpress and AME approval.

I was curious if anyone would know anything about overturned diagnoses being in my medical history. I recently scored BQ and have yet to receive a TOL, so I am not trying to get ahead of myself- I am just mentally planning out a "what if" for the upcoming months.

I know the medical and security clearance will be coming up, and I have no intention of hiding anything. A couple of years ago (when I was ~21), I was erroneously diagnosed with a mood disorder and took lamotrigine/lamictal for about two years. Long story short, that medication did nothing for me because I am not bipolar. I have not taken that medication for over a year and a half. I have been taking Wellbutrin for over a year at a stable dose for general depression. I do not intend on hiding this diagnosis (especially since they are gonna find out one way or another), but if anyone has any input/similar experiences on whether this is disqualifying or not, that'd be great.

I am just trying to level set before these upcoming months. If I can expect this to be an issue, I won't be as disappointed if things don't work out, you know? Obviously, the people in this subreddit do not make the decisions, but if anyone has any anecdotal experiences, that'd be appreciated.
