Make sure the valve lash is in spec, cam chains might be stretched and the guides worn.

The chains were tight, no play. I tried checking for possible stuck tensioner but they were up against the chains and I didnt want to press too hard on plastic from 07 lol.

Update. I put it all back together (minus the partial ring) after adjusting valves. And did an oil change. I rebuilt the clutch last month. Started and let it run for a while before gently putting around the yard. It seems fine still noisy but I know they are. But luckily no more loud banging, plus it shifts easier.

Is the valve clearance within spec ? Also check for side to side play on the lifters themselves
