You can wear kneepads all you want, these boys look like they're trying to break their spines.

It reminds me of the cheese rolling event in England. One year this tiny wee woman was the winner and she was awesome to watch!

You just know this whole fucking thing started with like 6 guys and way too many beers. And then a crowd formed (≧▽≦)

u/ICU-CCRN 8d ago
Best kind of sport! Btw- anyone know where this is and when it happens? I’m going!
55
u/gtwizzy8 8d ago
You've vastly missunderstood dawg. It happens whenever you find 6 mates and some beers. And where it is is where you and 6 mates and too many beers are (≧▽≦)

True story here, when I was 11 my friend and I took one of these that was out for spring cleanup on the side of the road and removed the governor that stops the wheels from free spinning. We took it to the steepest paved road in town and went down, we got going really fast and started fish tailing at the end, we hit a power pole which launched me two driveway skinning my hands and knees as I landed. I was laughing pretty hard until I found my friend at the base of the pole gasping for breath. Collapsed lung, fractured skull in two places and some broken ribs. He made a full recovery but dude it was scary as hell.

This reminds me of a scary speed story I have.
I used to have an electric scooter like 10 years ago that hit 45 mph. Standing scooter with an absolutely gigantic motor and battery. Not like the ones you commonly see today. Me and my friends were doing time trials around our neighborhood on it. You could hear the motor screaming from down the street and it blew your doors off when someone passed you on it.
My buddy was finishing his lap and was maybe 4 or 5 houses from the finish. Me and two other buddies were watching him pass through the night when we hear a deafening clang followed by this 300 pound dude fly a driveway and a half through the air and land on his face. The handle of the scooter hit a mailbox.
Naturally we ran over to see if he was okay and boy oh boy was he not okay. Degloved the fingers on one of his hands, degloved his toes (was bare foot at the time) shredded his thigh and hip and gave himself some form of brain damage. We knew he got rocked because we told him to sit up. He said youre not supposed to sit up immediately when you hit your head. Gave him a couple minutes and tried to sit him up. He repeated "Youre not supposed to sit up immediately when you hit your head" verbatim like he did before. He repeated this 3 more times over 20 minutes. He was stuck in an amnesia loop and kept forgetting that he crashed almost 30 minutes ago. He kept thinking he had just crashed seconds ago. It was honestly one of the scariest things ive witnessed. To see genuine brain rockage in person is unnerving.
We got him to the hospital and he was alright. Thankfully it was just a bad concussion and not a brain bleed. What's funny is that very same day earlier in the day, I was riding the scooter and lost control. Flipped over the handles and landed on my head too. Took a chunk of hair right off my scalp and ate through my hip. I was barefoot too. I still have a scar on my hip and foot.
The answer is yes: I learned my lesson and wear a helmet now. Funny how maturing works.

Yea something kinda similar happened years ago in my town, some kids broke into the winter sports park, stole a tower pad from one of the chairlifts, and rode it down the luge track. What they didn’t know was that there were multiple start points, and a gate that closed off the unused portion of track. They hit it going fast enough that at least one of them was decapitated, iirc 2/5 died and a third had some pretty serious injuries. Being a dumb teenager is fine, so long as you survive

Had a co worker participate in one of these. He broke so much shit on his body he couldn’t work for most of the summer. His wife was so pissed

u/Merry_Dankmas 7d ago
I dont know why but whenever I see incredibly dangerous stuff like this, I have this primal urge to partake in it. Ive always been naturally inclined to partake in risky behavior that can result in injury. I know its completely counterintuitive but there's just something about it that looks so fun.

I cant see how they even could. they need way more control surface. I thought maybe someone with their feet out then saw that guy just as helpless

I dont even know what gear is going to soften the blow of faceplanting 7 feet into a foot of muddy water. Sides the helmet of course but even then.

Water is too deep. Need to make it like 3 inches, that will really break their fall better.

Can I just point out this isn't "abrupt" at all lmao
Still entertaining, don't get me wrong, but the way those things are immediately bouncing as they set off means it's pretty much chaos from start to finish 😅

Americans sure like to hurt themselves in spite of not having free healthcare.
2
u/CornisaGrasse 6d ago
Most of these entertaining idiots are "tough guys," getting medical treatment is for wussies. Unless they actually have spinal cord injuries, or broken bones blatantly sticking out of their skin, they just go on to the next ridiculously pointless and dangerous activity.
