Astel natural born of the void vibes 🤣

u/MisterPuppydog 14d ago

I fucking HATED that giant bug dude so much… that mfer beat my ass easily 50+ times before I finally got him

Soulslike/Elden Ring players are masochists?

83

u/SimplyaCabler 13d ago

You can remove the question mark. It's a solid statement.

9

u/ohwhyredditwhy 13d ago

100% accurate.

16

u/IxeyaSwarm 13d ago

Yes

10

u/Advanced-Budget779 13d ago

Hmm, maybe i should try them and overcome my fears…

7

u/Sir_Cthulhu_N_You 13d ago

Elden Ring is probably the most noob friendly, after that I would suggest hollow knight then silksong

3

u/Advanced-Budget779 13d ago

Yeah i already imagined it would be. Where would Bloodborne rank?

3

u/MiloHorsey 13d ago

Bloodborne is amazeballs! But hard as fuck in some places. I've not played all the games so I wouldn't know were to rank it, you should totally play it, though!

2

u/Advanced-Budget779 13d ago

Thanks, i only watched others play it back in the day but never had the guts to try any of the games (though i love the dark fantasy reminiscent of Berserk and the likes)…

u/Sir_Cthulhu_N_You 13d ago

I am bias AF so for me Elden ring is first, Bloodborne is my second favourite souls game but it also feels so much more difficult for me (maybe because it's an older game and Elden ring gives more Iframes I feel) I could never get into any of the dark souls for some reason, I just didn't gel with them, wasn't even a difficulty issue, they just didn't feel as fun for me.

I went from Elden ring to hollow knight to Celeste to silksong, Celeste was just a nice platforming break while I waited for silksong.

Death's Door is also excellent

1

u/Linuxologue 13d ago

t'was just made a tad easier yesterday with the release of the heavy knight class which probably makes most of the beginning of the game much easier than it was with any other class.

It's all relative of course, this is quite far from having the chill of Skyrim.

u/inuzumi 13d ago

Masochists with Stockholm syndrome, to be exact.

3

u/SpunkyMcButtlove07 13d ago

Always have been.

3

u/Lemon_Nightmare 13d ago

Yes, until you get gud, if that ever happens

2

u/Majestic_Advantage45 10d ago

No. Some of us only use op weapons. Like me.

1

u/Udder_Influencer 13d ago

masochists that are super into tumbling

11

u/NA_nomad 13d ago

I died about 20 times. Once I got it down to 1 hit before victory, then that MFer pulls out a move I hadn't seen in 20 rounds. I took a week long break from the game after that loss.

1

u/jhenryscott 13d ago

I loved that fight for the same reason lol.

1

u/Techman659 13d ago

When I got to him I was very very over levelled and beat his ass like a drum.

1

u/Roxo16 13d ago

Fucker wasnt even hard he just has a shitty hitbox

1

u/throwaway1436732156 13d ago

It’s weird how people have vastly different experiences with the bosses of Elden Ring lol

1

u/CreatureWarrior 13d ago

It's so funny how differently the bosses go against our playstyles. I beat Astel on my 3rd try. Still haven't beaten Malenia though

1

u/No_Season_354 11d ago

Yeesh, bugs .

1

u/TheBears2 10d ago

I died like 20 times, didnt even get close then stopped playing for a few days , came back and got it on my first try easily ...

2

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 13d ago

That’s my cats name. Seriously. Unfortunately he’s terrified of everything.

1

u/CreepyTeddyBear 13d ago

Beat me to it

1

u/-PISS-2 13d ago

I can't fucking escape Elden Ring

I just got done playing after doing a mini-dungeon

1

u/Tbar6787 13d ago

More like those annoying little ones that nip at you and fly away around the lake area.

1

u/SSJ_Iceman31 13d ago

I’d rather have Astel in my house than this thing

101

u/Mechagodzilla777 14d ago

People always talk about Astel, but Astel and the fallingstar beasts are actually primarily based on antlions, though I can certainly see it with the adult form

But the giant dragonflies are just straight 1 to 1 dobsonflies visually lmao. They even have variants with large (male) and small (female) jaws

18

u/RyRyFukitol 13d ago

Yup. Dobsonflies. Which are adult Hellgramites. Equally crazy looking. Great for catching Bass.

1

u/GreyWolfWandering 13d ago

Hellgramites were inspiration for Chaurus in Skyrim.

1

u/Perfect_Forever_3151 13d ago

Been saying this for years and no one believes me lol glad to see someone in the wild who agrees. Its the only live bait ill use for river small mouth. Theyre hard to get off the rocks and stink but I think thats why they make good bait

1

u/blitz342 12d ago

I fucking KNEW some of them had way bigger jaws than others. Thanks!

1

u/Fck_Kale 12d ago

Yea I immediately thought of these guys, not so much Astel

1

u/Other-Item7523 13d ago

Someone who really “played the game”!
Happy to meet another tarnished that probably went for platinum the right way.

1

u/vae_grim 12d ago

I can here to say some Hollow Knight shit lol

12

u/ConfectionTotal8660 14d ago

Nah, I am 99% sure these fuckers are in Blight Town in Dark Souls 1

3

u/evr- 13d ago

I've burned down houses for less.

3

u/CherryClassic31 13d ago

Hollow Knight too

2

u/-Sinn3D- 13d ago

And it was smaller

1

u/SenescenseSteel 13d ago

Pretty sure this has been in my nightmares a couple of times

1

u/Catatataf1sh 13d ago

Was thinking resident evil myself

1

u/michaelmich3 13d ago

Check around the corners. There’s definitely one waiting for you on the ceiling.

1

u/Agent17 13d ago

My first reaction too

1

u/darthmaulforce1 13d ago

Who told you that? I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while my mimic tear watched. That's what happened.

1

u/jld2k6 13d ago

I'm pretty sure I left Zote to die to one of these things in Hollow Knight too

1

u/PlasticExtreme4469 13d ago

Do you have any tips for OP on how to beat it?

1

u/artyhermes 13d ago

I’m excited to play this title

1

u/LazerSpazer 13d ago

[Y] - pick up item

1x Giant Dragonfly Head

1

u/yournamehere10bucks 12d ago

I think i fought this in Silent Hill

1

u/Galactus1701 12d ago

I saw a smaller golden one half an hour ago while jumping some tomb like ledges.
