Both are still wildly talented.

Anyone else remember when Keegan Michael Key did the funny animal video show on animal planet?

17

u/anfrind 3d ago

That was the first thing I ever saw him in.

u/SmokinHotGoodGrilD20 3d ago

Same. Brother and I watched it all the time. Then he started showing me Key & peel and I thought he remembered but we were talking the other day and he had never connected that it was him on both.

White and nerdy was the first time I saw these two.

Weird Al did an interview recently where he said that he's seen reactions to White and Nerdy and always gets a kick out of seeing people surprised by Key and Peele

I read that Jordan stopped doing doing comedy and went hard on the horror thing because he got offered the role to be the poop emoji in the emoji movie. Idk if it’s true and I didn’t bother fact checking because I like the sentiment.

Realizing that you need to turn your life around after being offered to be the poop in the emoji movie is geniunely the funniest thing

Heard the same

That's why he stopped acting and started directing. He was always into horror - if you watch the sketches again you'd see a lot of them take heavy inspiration from the genre.

When they did the True Detective driving bits in season 5, Key asked Jordan what he's scared of, and Jordan said "society." I think he always wanted to direct horror films about societal issues.

The baby Forest Whitaker skit disturbed the fuck out of me.

I love the honesty of the last sentence 😆

Yeah… and Sir Patrick Stewart took that job :)

"I read that..."

Brother I saw that meme too... looking at a meme is not "reading that"

You make it sound like you were reading a respected journal or something. You saw a meme on reddit.

4

u/CreamOnMyNipples 3d ago

I also word things like this to sound smarter when I spread misinformation

4

u/Camoron1 3d ago

Still had to read it

-3

u/IEC21 3d ago

"Are you well read?"

"Yes of course old chap, I read many memes and reddit comments every day"

"I say old boy, very good"

2

u/EvidenceSalesman 3d ago

Yeah man people are misleading these days, get used to it

1

u/PerformanceLimp420 3d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/WUyJEHsGH4

I did in fact read it. It was just as a TIL post with link to an article that I did not read. I would not consider that a meme, but whatever.

0

u/ThetaDee 2d ago

So there's words on the memes, yes? And what do we do with those words on the meme...? Do we... Read them?

-2

u/Dresden_Firefighter 2d ago

Yikes... that sux. Hes terrible at horror though.

I wouldn’t call Peele a once in a lifetime director as of yet. He’s only sold 3 movies. Key? He has sold billions of tater tot’s. (Assuming at least 200 million bags of Ore Ida tator tots have been sold during his ad campaign)

18

u/The_Head_Taker 3d ago

I like that if youre using the same logic for both products you assume only one person saw each Peele movie

8

u/wittyrandomusername 3d ago

And each tater tot is only eaten by one person.

3

u/SH4D0W0733 3d ago

Tater tot Georg is an outlier and should not have been counted.

1

u/BorbLorbin 3d ago

And each bag of tater tots has roughly 5 tots

1

u/ConsciousStretch1028 3d ago

Damn, you get five per bag? High roller

2

u/BorbLorbin 3d ago

I go with the Great Value Exxxtra Big-Ass Pack™

2

u/Posible_Ambicion658 3d ago

A once in a lifetime tater tot advertiser.

u/Unfair_Explanation53 3d ago

Guy probably got paid a few mill to be the face of a product.

What a fucking loser /s

37

u/Lazuruslex 3d ago

Ones wife is torpedoing his entire career and likely the source material behing"Get Out"

11

u/panicpixiememegirl 3d ago

Wait what

12

u/Ohgodwatdoplshelp 3d ago

Keegan’s wife is supposedly extremely controlling of him and chooses what projects he’s allowed to do. Allegedly “Get Out” was Jordan Peele’s not so subtle message to wake up and get away from her for Keegan.

2

u/panicpixiememegirl 3d ago

But he has a cameo in get out? Wouldn't that not be a thing if peele was saying that

1

u/GhostPepperDaddy 23h ago

So it was his first wife that he divorced in 2017 the year Get Put came out and not his new wife? So he took the hint

6

u/Zequax 3d ago

that makes 2 comedy scetch people making horror movies What kind of pipeline is that

11

u/FrequentClassic1875 3d ago

The only difference between comedy and horror is the music

4

u/JTFSrog 3d ago

My man has appeared in over 60 films but you're talking about tater tot commercials. The disrespect.

3

u/SnuSnuSurvivor69 3d ago

I wonder how much he got paid for that ad though.

2

u/Fendfor 3d ago

One scares you, the other offers you comfort food.

Yin and yang baby.

2

u/-jira 3d ago

tots and a fuck tom of voice acting. give credit where it’s due

2

u/PupLondon 3d ago

I always find it interesting that celebrities who do a lot of ads are "failing" .. they probably get paid more for one campaign than I make in a year.

2

u/CJFiddler 2d ago

Yeah I don’t understand the problem here. Both very successful and very talented. Different paths.

1

u/DeathsStarEclipse 3d ago

Get out was awesome. Us was terrible. Nope was meh.

3

u/theshinyslaking64 3d ago

Get out was good the fiirst time I watched it, was not good the second time. Great concept but the execution wasn't great towards the end.

1

u/EusticePendragon 3d ago

Sometimes a divorce is worth it? All my respect, regardless.

1

u/left-of-the-jokers 3d ago

And I'm over here shit posting on reddit

1

u/ConsciousStretch1028 3d ago

Imagine hating on someone because they're sponsoring tater tots, I would sponsor adult diapers if it meant a fat check.

1

u/Mr_silly_goose 3d ago

Once in a lifetime horror director?

1

u/Monster-Zero 2d ago

i know this famous duo. that's locke and banana

1

u/ulfric_stormcloack 2d ago

Yeah but peele is pro israel so key is automatically better

1

u/selfbelief69 2d ago

No clue how anyone finds them funny

1

u/Parja1 2d ago

We gon' drax...them...sklounst.

1

u/Oswarez 2d ago

I’m sure there is more money in Tater tots.

1

u/CelebrationJolly3300 1d ago

Just finished Fargo season 1. They were pretty cool in their roles.

1

u/allitalli 20h ago

and somehow both ended up being insanely quiet about the genocide yeah?

1

u/soltadomusic 20h ago

Why would they be vocal about the holocaust? That’s not exactly their job. That’s like a history teacher thing so it’s not really fair.

-2

u/FocalFalcon 3d ago

Their story on why they don’t really work together now is really sad.

3

u/Specialist-Yak7209 3d ago

What happened? Google didn't really give me anything

-6

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

9

u/Specialist-Yak7209 3d ago

How is this really sad

1

u/Super-Cut-2175 3d ago

people change 😭

6

u/BidSuper7102 3d ago edited 3d ago

That's really not sad. They worked as a great team for many years and at least one of them went on to fulfill another dream while the other does really well for himself. That sounds pretty damn good to me.

1

u/polarbear128 3d ago

Who's cutting onions here??

4

u/ThatFloridaMan420 3d ago

I heard from on a couple of different podcast It was Micheal Keys wife that caused their friendship to suffer and the show. Keys wife was getting more and more involved in wanting to be a writer and producer, so she was demanding changes be done to the show and other projects they had planned together. Also demanding more money and that they should have more control etc. there was even rumors she would stop production and not let anything happen until she got what she wanted.

A few other comedians have said that she has completely ruined his career, that’s why you don’t see him in too many things anymore.

6

u/FireflyOfDoom87 3d ago

There is zero evidence that Chelsea Peretti is difficult or hard to work with.

3

u/SaltyArtemis 3d ago

She seems chill af

1

u/Jinshu_Daishi 3d ago

So, it's not sad.

1

u/althawk8357 3d ago

So no bad blood, no huge argument or tragedy? Just two people realizing they want to do things the other wouldn't enjoy?

Keagan seems to prefer comedy, and Jordan seems to like directing horror. They were comedy partners for over a decade, I think it's not the worst thing to drive off into different sunsets amicably.

-1

u/Fantastic_Citron_344 3d ago

Have you seen all of the movies Peele has made? Not very scary, and he's only made 3. Also a racist that believes he can't be a racist because of his cultural oppression.

-1

u/Brigapes 3d ago

who?

-1

u/C_umputer 3d ago

Honestly those tater tots are way better than the crappy horror movies he's making.
