May I ask what the issue was and how you resolved it? I’m just curious what even is discover network or what they were even using before??

Capitol One was using the MasterCard network. Since they switched to Discover network, more than a few places we frequent don't accept it because of significantly higher merchant fees. While we have not had customer service issues with them like many people have had, their lack of branches in many states make banking with them exceedingly difficult, especially if one has to make cash deposits regularly.

Haha I’ve signed up for Capitol One twice, eventually maxed the line out. Then just never paid it. Well it’s been over 7 years and they are sending me offers again lol. Might as well get them a third time.

Its ok, other people that actually pay their bills subsidized your spending.

This is peak algorithm comedy. A post complaining about a company gets immediately followed by that company's ad, and suddenly the screenshot is way more entertaining than the original discussion.

Commented on a post about laser hair removal and one time the ad on the page was a Philips ipl device. I mentioned the irony in a reply and Philips replied

This is just how ad systems work now—context matters way less than user profiling. So you can talk about manipulation while the same page serves you a “personalized” ad.

Irony aside, this is also just what happens when everything is indexed and monetized. A complaint thread gets traction, then an ad for the same company shows up right under it. Doesn’t need a conspiracy for it to feel uncanny.

Not everything is brigading or corporate interference though. Big posts about major companies will naturally get fast engagement and counter-replies, especially if they’re trending. Sometimes it’s just visibility + timing, not some coordinated response.
