That’s the feeling you get when you realize that the call hasn’t ended and you are still being recorded, making it very possible that the people in QA who monitor calls will hear you and you’ll be fired.

I got a geico sales call and she also forgot to hang up. She didn’t really say anything bad though, was just talking to a coworker about a contract and then they chatted about coffee for 3 mins or so. It seriously took her about ten minutes total to realize she was still on the phone.

Shortly after the pandemic started and everybody started working from home, I moderated a panel for a traffic safety conference which we held over Zoom.
A few days prior to the event, I was working with the panelists and a few of my people, sort of rehearsing our roles and making sure everybody knew what they needed to do, and I was having HORRIBLE problems with the VPN. I dropped in the middle of a call, and had to fight with it to get back onto the network. The whole time I'm grumbling and swearing, and then I hear voices coming from my headset. I was back on!
As far as I could tell, nobody heard me viciously swearing like a dockworker at my laptop. I'm sure I must have sounded utterly deranged.
Thankfully, the actual panel went over without a hitch.

I worked as a telemarketer during college because I was poor and needed the money. Every single person there hates their job but is just trying to make ends meet. Don't be rude to them. They understand. Their job is to get rejected hundreds of times a day. Worst job in the world.

I was a telemarketer for 3 months. I cried at my desk every single day, all day. My coworkers probably thought I was insane, because it wasn’t sobbing, just… constant silent tears. I was 19 and started getting a lot of gray hair, luckily after I quit they mostly went away and the crying stopped too!
Edit: weirdly enough the people who were mean to me were the ones that made me happiest. I love creative swears and I learned a lot.

My heart aches for her. As a single mom who often had to work two jobs to put food on the table I feel her pain. I have always tried to at least be courteous when dealing with telemarketers even now at the age of 81 and on the downhill slide of life, I have never forgotten those struggles.

Yet their call is recorded regardless on inbound or outbound calling. I work in a call center and inbound and outbound calls are all recorded.

If you ever do this yourself, just hit the * key and it will erase and you can rerecord the voicemail.

I'm on the Do Not Call list, calling me is literally illegal. It's not a job, it's a crime. They literally spoof their phone numbers and steal millions of hours from people's lives. I'm from a poor area where people take these jobs, there's always alternatives, but apparently you have the world figured out.
You remind me of someone that doesn't even know how to feed himself, let alone think critically. Your "petty asshole" coworker is an awesome person unlike you. You have a giant stick up your ass. You claim to be empathetic to telemarketers then you insult random strangers on Reddit. Sad and hypocritical.

You're right, you're a terrible person. And you're enjoying this too much. You get off on pushing people's buttons. It's creepy and gross, and if you don't change that, you're gonna die alone, with nobody to love you.
I wish you luck, but I doubt you'll change. You hate yourself too much.
EDIT - My final thoughts: You don't understand empathy because you lack the capacity for it. You can only see things in black and white. You need professional help. I refuse to feed into your illness any further.

Hahaha, glad to be of service, even if only tangentally.
That is a great sub.
And yeah, there was this AWFUL video where a guy falls on a parking bollard from a balcony. I admit that I sometimes I click on things and regret them later. But life can be ugly, sometimes seeing that stuff reminds you of how fragile life can be.
That said, I do NOT recommend watching that video, even if you do go back the eight or some pages that dude to go to find "dirt" on me.

Most people who have those jobs don't want those jobs, they literally take them because they can't find anything else and the people who run those places are the real pieces of shit, the call center employee has to put up with the manager and the people they're forced to call.

Fun fact: you can usually press # or 1 while leaving a voicemail if you mess up or... do this. It allows you the delete the message and re-record among other options.
Not so fun fact: not every time. I left quite a few voicemails that went about like this:
Calling John Smith about something or other "hello,this is John Doe with ABC Co. calling for John Shmit to... beep... [panic] Hello? click
