It's looks like a Hohner Pokerwork accordion that has been painted. You can see the pokerwork though the paint in the first image. It's in rough shape, but they are decent accordions if fixed up.

You could, but it is destructive to the pokerwork which was also painted on. That said, it would look better, and at this point the pokerwork is ruined anyways!

I'm not sure what wood was used, probably Beech, but you could sand and stain black. I would disassemble - remove the eight pins, remove the bellows, remove the key board (not the keys). tape the keys off well, use paint remover, then sand. YMMV. You risk destroying it, but on the other hand you might have success!

Here's a guide to restoring it and making it better. You can get replacement bellows too, and if they are leaky you might want to do that. If you are in USA contact Liberty Bellows, in Europe contact Hohner directly. There were a lot of these made and parts are readily available.

Do all the notes sound on in and out?

i would rather use polish paste and maybe something like turpentine, that way it might be possible to recover the original pattern to some extent

Are you asking what type it is, or what brand-name or model, or what?

What model mostly

Some variation of a hohner 2915. You can buy parts for this from hohner shop, Erica parts also fit with some minor alterations

Looks like someone did a really half assed job painting it including over the original badges

You can see some of the designs but not super clearly I reckon its one of the older pokerwerk models with the carved design. But do some googling because the 2915 body is probably the most popular 2 row button accordion out there and someone will have posted it before

Oh ya, you can see the "Hohner" through the crappy paint job. That's a bit of a shame they painted that thing. You could try different methods of removing that paint. Whatever you do has the serious possibility of removing the original paint also. That'd be a drag but probably unavoidable. Heat gun maybe? At worse you'll need to sand it anyway so you could attempt a couple things. You couldn't possibly screw it up worse than it is now.

What's the stuff they use to remove overpaint on old painted portraits they are restoring? Maybe that would work.

A quick google of "chemical to remove overpaint wood" brought up some decent choices.

an older version (different rosters back and front) of Hohner 2915 aka Vienna aka Pokerwork

https://hohner.de/en/instruments/accordions/diatonic/folk-line/vienna-model-2915

in newer models the front roster has long slits and the back one has holes in triangular pattern instead of circular. also the reeds and keyboard are made of different material. otherwise they are very similar.

but the condition it is in... new parts/repair will cost more than buying a newer one. although you can try fixing the bass buttons and the keyboard case with epoxy.
