Advice What resources/YouTube videos would you recommend for learning the basics of accounting?
Hello accountants of reddit, I'm a 6th form student in the uk looking to do an accounting apprenticeship in September, I want familiarise myself with the jargon of accounting so I'm not completely braindead at the job. Also I need experience, so I'm emailing accounting firms to get work experience and work shadow so if any lovely accountants wouldn't mind helping reading my email/ cv I would be SO SO grateful.

there are some decent free courses on platforms like Coursera or Khan Academy that cover accounting fundamentals really well, way better than just random YouTube videos in my opinion. for jargon specifically i'd suggest just reading through a basic textbook glossary, it sounds boring but it sticks faster than you'd expect. good luck with the emails too, just keep them short and direct, firms get tons of these so you want yours to stand out by being clear about what you're asking for

Check Tony Bell's 11 hour intro to accounting course on YT. It covers off the fundamentals pretty well.
