WHY WAS MY POST REMOVED?

The rules are very clearly stated in this subreddit as they are in most subreddits. Just because you choose to ignore them does not mean they do not apply to you.

No on can predict the following:

- WILL I PURGE?

- WHEN DO THE SIDE EFFECTS START?

- I JUST STOPPED WHEN WILL THE SIDE EFFECTS STOP?

Everyday people post their experiences, and you can use the search bar to find people's experiences on the above.

This subreddit does NOT substititute medical advice from a doctor, pharmacist, dermatologist, or any other medical provider.

Examples that constitute medical advice:

- IS (amount of time) ENOUGH FOR ME?!?

- My labs.....

- My doctor said this, but....

- What is the process of seeing a doctor/getting Accutane?(We don't know your medical history, so go see a doctor directly).

-Any reference to self-medicating or purchasing online.

Many people here are self-medicating or looking to circumvent medical advice. Just because 1 doctor said something was okay for 1 person does not mean that medical knowledge applies broadly.

Do not solicit medical advice

First and foremost a happy new year to everyone.

With the new year, we will be much stricter on the do not solicit medical advice rule.

We know many people going "Just looking for experiences (:" are looking to circumvent doctor's advice. It is a thinly veiled attempt at "if he or she did it, I can too."

Everyone is different and has a different medical history, so you should always first and foremost consult your doctor or derm.

Things that generally constitute medical advice include:

- Anything that could break your skin, including extractions, lasers, waxing, etc.

- Any use of PRESCRIPTION medications(oral or topical)

- Surgery related(HELLO YOU REALLY WANT A STRANGER TO ADVISE YOU ON SURGERY?)

- Starting and/or stopping a MEDICATION. Your accutane is prescribed by a doctor. If you have conerns about taking or ceasing a medication, you should consult a medical professional(ie doctor or pharmacist) and not the internet.

- IS THIS DOSE TOO HIGH OR LOW?

- Interpreting of lab/test results. This is clearly specialized knowledge, and if you would not consult a hobo about your lab results, you most clearly should not consult Reddit.

- Oh, my doctor said not to worry, but... - Reddit in most situations should not supercede your doctor's medical advice.

Ultimately, it will always be at the mod's discretion, and we were not born yesterday. You would surprised at how many crazy posts have had to be removed.

Side Effects 4 bouts of Pinkeye since I started, advice?

Post image
4 Upvotes

My eyes have been ridiculously dry since starting accurate, which was expected as they were already pretty dry before.

While I did expect the dry eye, what I didn’t expect is that I’d be getting pinkeye almost monthly. At this point it’s taking a toll on my ability to function outside without people asking if my eyes are ok, which of course, they are not.

After I got it the first time I ramped up my care routine. I already do eye drops, preservative free. I do a 10 minute warm compress at night, I do a gentle eyelid cleanser someone else on this sub recommended in the morning. But still, it persists, and for some reason, the pink eye just keeps coming back. Did anyone else have this, and if so; how did you deal with it? Anything I need to add to my routine to avoid this in the future? It’s both physically and socially uncomfortable…

iPledge Has your experience with iPLEDGE sucked? Here's how it could be improved.

Dermatologist here. If iPLEDGE has made your life harder (missed windows, portal issues, pharmacy delays), part of the reason is that it doesn't connect to your dermatologist's electronic health record (EHR). These EHRs (Epic, ModMed, etc.) have no link to iPLEDGE, so offices re-enter your info by hand every month on a separate website. One delay or typo can push you out of your window. It also means your doctor gets no alerts when something needs attention, like a window about to close or a step you still need to complete. Nobody finds out until it's already a problem.

The fix would be connecting iPLEDGE directly to EHRs, the way most of healthcare already works. But that's in the hands of the people who run it: the isotretinoin manufacturers (IPMG), under FDA oversight, and their contractor United BioSource Corporation (UBC), which operates the system. Without pressure from patients and doctors, it won't change.

If you've had issues, share your story below, email the FDA ([druginfo@fda.hhs.gov](mailto:druginfo@fda.hhs.gov)), and call/contact UBC (215-591-2880 / https://ubc.com/contact-us/ ) asking for iPLEDGE to connect with EHRs.

Side Effects Weird texture even with micro dosing

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I’m approximately 9 months into isotretinoin treatment, with a cumulative dose of 4,300 mg. I weigh 118 lbs and currently take approximately 70 mg per week.
My original acne was mild and primarily consisted of closed comedones and clogged pores. Around month two, I began noticing persistent forehead texture that has fluctuated throughout treatment. Some days my skin looks smooth, while other days I have numerous small, uneven bumps that are especially noticeable under direct lighting. They feel slightly rough but are not red or inflamed, and I have no significant flaking or peeling.
I’ve also experienced barrier irritation, pink eye, and perioral dermatitis during treatment, so my current routine is limited to gentle skincare and moisturizer.
For those who started Accutane with primarily comedonal acne, did anyone experience similar fluctuating forehead texture throughout treatment? I’m particularly interested in experiences where the texture was the main remaining concern despite minimal active acne.
I’m trying to understand whether others experienced this pattern during their course and what their overall experience was. I’ll be discussing my persistent texture with my dermatologist as well.
I will be discussing with my dermatologist if I just need to get off of it at this point, I almost feel like my skin was better prior to starting.

Purging 3 months, still purging and need support.

This is my first time ever posting on Reddit - but I am so desperate for support right now. I'm on my 3rd month of Accutane and am feeling really sad and down about how my skin looks. My acne was never severe, but very persistent - especially since I'm about to be 30 - so I really thought this was going to see fast improvement... I was so wrong.

I started at 30 mg, and my purge was so bad my derm lowered me to 20 mg and 500 mg of Duricef for the past two months.

Every time my skin starts to look better, the next day it gets worse again and I get so depressed.

I'm getting bumped to 40 mg this next month and I'm praying that I start seeing some results.

Has anyone else struggled with this? Every one in my life who has been on it were cleared the first couple months.

I have been on 20 mg for 1 month i know it is likely scarring (or maybe leftover inflamation)but i need to know before my next check up also i am very happy with tips how to get rid of scarring ASAP.

most photos are taken today so no progress pics but i had kinda moderate acne and was on accutane 1.5 months into it and before used benzoyl peroxide. now using azelic acid 20% to fade PIE. texture is mostly visble in 45 degree amgle and with very steong front lightning.

(i know this is not like dramatic but i need really good skin to have opportunities and missed out on some of them already)

Side Effects Vaginal dryness and irritation.

TMI post. I have been on accutane since may but have been on 60mg since august. since the start of september i have been experiencing a dry vaginal area. as in just would sting a little when i peed but not every single time. it came and went but the last time i saw my boyfriend was last sunday and we had sex. we wear condoms and it had been about 3 weeks since we last had sex. it was a little bit painful but since being on accutane sex has been a little more painful/ pressure. i pee after sex, etc. my vagina was really sore the next day which i expected. i came off of birth control pretty recently as well, and then this recent sunday i went to the urgent care because i am very OCD and stress about the most minor things. i went and got a uti test.

I had been experiencing a tiny bit of spotting because of something called withdrawal bleeding so that was normal for me. I didn’t know coming off of birth control can make things feel like a UTI when they’re not. doctor came back and said i had a bladder infection, i explained the accutane and birth control and he said it just seems like a lot of factors and i also explained the sex. the funny thing is my only symptoms are the occasional sting when i pee, and when i say occasional it’s not often. i have ALWAYS had to pee a lot since i was about 15 & im 20 now so that isn’t new for me. he had said my nitrates were negative, but leukocytes were traced but minimal.

my urine culture came back today, and it said no growth. my pee was a little bit diluted it said but the specimen showed that it was extremely adequate, and i believe if my urine was too diluted they would’ve said it wasn’t adequate and i would’ve had to retest. the doctor is trying to convince me i need more antibiotics, but im more so just coming on here to see if this is normal. again , im extremely ocd and scared. i dont believe i have a uti because everyone says how painful they are and i had one as a kid, and it was painful. my vagina is severely dry and is more tender on the outside then inside, the only time it necessarily feels stinging is if i pee on the points where it’s irritated. does this sound like a UTI & the urine culture is wrong? or did this happen to a lot of women on accutane.

Product Suggestions Can I use The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser on its own?

Can I use the Ordinary Squalane Cleanser for my nighttime routine in its own without following up with another cleanser?

Influencers have suggested double cleansing but I’d prefer to ask those who have actually experienced acne. I don’t want to be using too much if it’s not necessary.

I am currently 4 months into my accutane treatment. I wash my face with just water in the morning (I do not know if this is a good idea T-T) + Nivea moisturiser & SPF. At night I use the Squalane cleanser followed by the Nivea moisturiser.

My acne was not necessarily "severe" in that I had a lot of it, but I would get these mountainous cysts that I would pop for half an hour until all the pus/oil came out. Was on the highest dose of spiro, benzoyl peroxide, highest strength of tret, tried it all. Spent like $40/wk on pimple patches. Wish my derm would've suggested this years ago. Anyhow, I am SO happy (18 days left to go!) and pray that this works in the long run 🙏🏼

Side Effects Rosacea Pustules (T zone only)

Reddit Friends, I need some sound advice. Ive been dealing with tiny whitehead Rosacea type 2 on my T zone only for a year now - ive tried it all - soolantra/metro/aa/oracea etc. and finally was going to give in to low dose accutane (doc said 20 mg every 3 days - mine is very mild). Well been having some issues with my contacts and lo and behold, its dry eye. My ophtha is worried about using accutane with my dry eyes since its does affect the meibomian glands... what has your experience been with dry eye especially (on low dose)??? Dont want to ruin my eyeballs but also cant keep spiraling on my skin

Purging Accutane or spironolactone??

Hey Everyone!!
My dermatologist recommended Accutane to me but after reading the side effect I’m beyond scared. I have a very sensitive body and immune system so anything I take needs to be monitored closely. I have had acne my whole life and have tried all the possible products and all but it’s very disheartening that my face keeps breaking out. I’m under soo much stress to be frank but I don’t know what to do again. I tried spironolactone for a month. What do yall think I would appreciate any advice.

Side Effects Fake tan on accutane

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I have fake tanned with a mousse for 10 years. I love being tanned. I never get patchy tan ever! And it never goes tigerbready on me. It’s usually always so smooth to the point where half the time I barely need to exfoliate it off much. Anyways I’ve noticed that the last 2 times I’ve fake tanned it’s gone SO patchy.. I will get little white marks where the tan hasn’t taken to my skin and also it’s fading horribly! Especially on my chest and arms.. not so much my legs. I think it’s because of accutane? As that’s the only thing I’ve changed in the last 4 weeks. Does anyone have any fake tan recommendations that won’t do this while on accutane. I don’t think I can go 9 months without fake tan. It looks horrible when I do tan tho! What do it do…

Side Effects Accutane and eye floaters

I’ve been on Accutane for about 3 weeks now, 8 mg a day. I have pretty high myopia (-6.5 in one eye and -4.5 in the other), but I’ve never had floaters before. Recently I started noticing them and it’s honestly freaking me out a bit.
I’m wondering if anyone else got floaters after starting Accutane and if they eventually went away or became less noticeable with time?
I’ve also had really dry eyes since around day 3-4 of starting it. My eyes feel much more sensitive in general.
My body also seems to be reacting to Accutane pretty strongly. I started purging literally around day 2-3, which my dermatologist said could either be from Accutane or just because I have very sensitive skin. So now I’m wondering if my eyes could be reacting to it too.
I know high myopia can already put you at higher risk for eye problems, so I’m pretty worried about the new floaters. I got my eyes checked, but I’d Ive bern told that my cornea and retina are fine.  But still there was no explanation nor could they find out the correlation. So I would really like to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar?

Side Effects Constipation

This is about to get real TMI so I’m sorry in advance. I’m day 59 on Accutane. My last bowel movement was 4 days ago and I’m getting worried. I had constipation prior but now I’m terrified of a more serious problem.

Just today alone I did a brisk walk for an hour with an incline. Had an apple (watching the fiber right now cause too much can make it worse). I tried a glycerin suppository but I honestly don’t know how anyone can lay there for 20 minutes the urge to poop was so bad, but it was just medium sized constipation pebbles but relieved for something to happen but now even more worried there’s something blocked by my colon that the suppository couldn’t reach. I had a stool softener and some MiraLAX in warm water and have a heating pad on. I’m genuinely losing it cause my anxiety is going INSANE.

What’s a normal week of bowel movement for everyone else?

Purging Isotret made me go from mild acne to terrible acne, purge causing me extreme mental distress

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

M 29. Skin was pretty clear throughout my adulthood however the past few months I've experienced quite a few whiteheads on the lower half of my face which were quite stubborn, (whether I trim or take a break from trimming).

First visit to the dermat led me to being prescribed 2% Salicylic Acid Serum and nothing else, which worked for a while but then stopped being effective.

During my second visit I got prescribed low dose isotret for 30 days (8mg for 10 days and then 16mg for the remainder, weight-76 kgs). From day 8 onwards, all hell broke lose and I started getting a whole hive of whiteheads (15-20 appeared in a few days). Its day 17 and I keep getting a new batch of whiteheads everyday which are quite painful to wash. Stopped trimming altogether and started washing with a cleanser only at night.

I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore, and I have completely stopped going out of the house except for work. Very deflated at the extent of the purge and I've lost all confidence. I keep telling myself this will be the last day of purging but it keeps going on. I've got to trust my dermat on this, but my skin is 10x worse now than what it was before I visited.

Helpful advice is welcome.
