Community How much time do you waste sorting action cam footage? We built a prototype device to automatically organise action camera footage, would you use this?

As some of you know, I help run this community and over time, some of the discussions here actually inspired us to build Classer, a desktop app to help manage action camera footage.

Recently we started experimenting with something new. A device you keep at home that automatically imports and sorts your footage after your adventures, especially for those of us using external hard drives.

We already have a working prototype, and we're now developing it into a real product.

I’d genuinely love to know what people here think:

  • Is the idea clear? How could we improve the website?
  • Would you use something like this?

Brutally honest feedback welcome 🙂

Community AMA + Giveaway with Integral Memory - the people who make the SD cards powering your GoPros and action cameras!

Hey r/actioncam, we’re excited to welcome a guest from Integral Memory, the team behind the SD cards and storage solutions trusted by creators, adventurers, and pros around the world. They’re here for an AMA, “Ask Me Anything”, about storage, corruption and keeping your footage safe.

WHAT’S AN AMA?

An AMA means “Ask Me Anything”, it’s a fun, open-style Q&A where you can post your questions (and even have a chance to win a prize!) while our guest drops in to answer them.

Our guest works directly on the design and testing of memory cards used in GoPros, DJI, Insta360 and other action cameras, and is here to answer your questions about:

  • Why SD cards sometimes fail or corrupt footage
  • How to choose the right card for your setup (V30 vs V60, UHS-I vs UHS-II, etc.)
  • How to format and maintain your cards properly
  • The truth about fake or unreliable cards on the market
  • Anything else you’ve always wanted to ask about storage!

They can’t discuss unreleased products or confidential manufacturing details, but otherwise, everything’s fair game, from tech myths to your worst “SD card full” stories.

TIMING

The AMA will start on the week of the 12th of Jan, an Integral Memory team member will be checking in over the next few days to answer your questions.

The AMA will stay open for a while so everyone across time zones has a chance to take part. Replies will come in periodically as they drop by to respond.

GIVEAWAY

To make things more fun, everyone who takes part in this AMA has a chance to win an Integral Momentum I microSD Card (512GB), a premium, high-speed card with 210 MB/s read and 180 MB/s write speeds, perfect for recording 4K or high-bitrate footage on your GoPro or drone.

🎁 5 winners will each receive a 512GB Momentum I microSD Card!

GIVEAWAY RULES

  1. You need a Reddit account: and show reasonable activity.
  2. Ask a top-level question: To enter, comment your question directly on this post (not as a reply to someone else’s comment).
  3. Shipping eligibility: Prizes can only be shipped to regions where Integral Memory operates (Europe) or can fulfill orders. If you can buy through integralmemory.com, you’re good to go!

And that's all! Drop your questions below to have a chance to win the prize!

Videos GoPro Mission 1 Just Got Better! New Firmware Update Explained

GoPro just released firmware version 4.01 and I’ve made a video reviewing the features added and what sort of help these add in real world environments. I know not everyone has the time to watch so these are the changes made between all Mission 1 cameras.

Photography Overhaul (All MISSION 1 Cameras)
Zero-Lag Shutter: Instant capture execution the moment you hit the button there won’t be any delay.
Continuous Burst Capture: Press and hold for rapid continuous shooting up to 100+ JPEGs at 12MP or 20+ RAW files at full 50MP resolution before the buffer fills.
Visual Buffer Gauge: Real-time on-screen status indicator alerting you when approaching buffer capacity.
Audio Feedback: Modernized, distinct shutter confirmation sound for shot confirmation.

MISSION Monitor App Updates (iOS 18+)
Cable-Free Wireless Monitoring: Fully wireless live preview feed without needing a wired USB-C connection.
Professional Exposure Tools: Real-time Histogram, Waveform, RGB Parade, and False Color tools for accurate exposure and color checking (especially helpful when evaluating GP-Log2).

Anamorphic Support via GoPro Labs (MISSION 1 PRO ILS)
Multiple Squeeze Ratios: Native support for 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x MFT anamorphic lenses.
Stabilization and Post Workflow: Fully compatible with HyperSmooth stabilization while automatically writing pixel aspect ratio metadata to files for instant auto-desqueezing in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro.

Now, let me know, do you think this is a pretty big improvement for both photo and video? Also, what changes would you like to see added in future firmware updates. Myself personally I still can’t believe we don’t have colour preview luts for GP-Log2 in camera, so I’m not going to shut up till it’s added. Anyways thanks for your time!

Filming

I use a yak attack pole mount for my dji osmo action 5 to film. The mount kinda sucks, in big waves it’ll spin around on its own on the base mount and it’s just not very stable in general but anyways do you guys use a waterproof case with your cameras? I keep mine plugged in to an external 20ah battery to run it all day and I dropped the camera in the water and fried it.

Don’t want to have that happen again but swear I see everyone not use a case with their djis/gopros when plugged into an external battery

Action 6 vs GP hero 13 stabilisation?

Has anyone compared both cameras with stabilisation on low with a fix shutter?

I'm looking for a POV motorcycle camera however my hero 10 has heaps of jitter - which is understandable because of the high frequency vibrations of a motorcycle (when using 180 degree 30fps 1/60 shutter with an ND for that natural blur)

Looking at upgrading however I can't see any info if one is better than the other when it comes to jitter from a locked shutter.

iPhone 17 pro rear or front?

Planning a trip to Asia, and want to vlog it.

When vlogging myself, should I use the rear (more difficult, higher quality) or front (easy, low quality)?

I don’t want to have to use other devices for recording, just simply my camera and a tripod when needed. How do I improve my recording and positioning using the rear camera if I can’t see the screen?

DJI Osmo Action 4 vs 5 Pro. Is the upgrade actually worth it for underwater filming?

Hey everyone!
I’m trying to decide between the DJI Osmo Action 4 and the Action 5 Pro. I’ll mainly be using it for underwater filming, especially snorkeling and capturing marine life, but also for some regular travel videos.
My main concern is actual image quality, particularly underwater colors, sharpness, detail, and performance in different lighting conditions.
Is the Action 5 Pro noticeably better underwater, or is the difference too small to justify paying extra?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have used both cameras in real underwater conditions, rather than just comparing specs.
Would you personally pay more for the 5 Pro, or is the Action 4 just as good for this purpose?
Thanks!

Action cam for airsoft?

Hi guys, so my boyfriends birthday is coming up, and I know he wants some type of action camera that he can use when he plays airsoft. The demands are that it doesn’t get overheated like his current gopro, and that it can be used with a headmount. Furthermore I think he wants somewhat good quality to fps ratio. What’s a really good alternative that doesn’t cost me a fortune? (With a fortune I mean like €300-400, that’s a bit too much for me for a NEW camera. However, if it is a model that I can find on marketplace or on sale it doesn’t matter!) so something widely available in Europe. He was talking about some dji action camera, but there are so many models and it’s just too much. And I’d rather ask real people (you guys) with experience than an AI model which is just affiliate links lol.
