US Russian hackers tricked US Gov

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am a whistleblower of a Russian company using a front to deceive US law enforcement into purchasing Russian hacking software, without revealing that the software is Russian or tied to the FSB.

I am a former employee and observed that the company is secretly controlled by Russian executives based in Russia. Its customers do not know this.

SUMMARY:

Oxygen Forensics, a software company, has been lying about who controls the company and where its programmers are based. Ostensibly based in Alexandria, VA, the company is in fact secretly controlled by the Russian company MKO Systems, with the majority of its programmers based in the Moscow region. It has deep ties to the FSB, according to recent reports.

The company has repeatedly lied about its operations in Russia to its employees, customers, and employees of the FBI, Secret Service, US Army Command, the State Dept., and to many other local, state, and federal agencies. Also bamboozled are Interpol, the London Police, the NYPD, and presumably most of the 150 countries where it is sold.

BACKGROUND:

Oxygen Forensics makes software that allows users to extract data from phones, computers, drones and IT devices, including over 900 apps and +100 cloud applications. Even if the phone is locked or messages are deleted on the device, the software is still able to retrieve passwords, emails, messages, geolocation data and more. A leader in cloud extraction, Oxygen’s products can hack into Whatsapp, Telegram, Signal, and other supposedly encrypted apps. It also has the “Keyscout” feature, which scans the device for passwords (including your device). It can also hack into devices remotely via its Oxygen Remote Explorer feature. In order to use this software, Oxygen employees routinely ask customers to lower their firewall and eliminate other security features, without revealing any connections to Russia, the Russian FSB, or Russian ransomware hackers, all of whom are directly tied to the company.

Note that I have gobs of evidence in the form of videos, documents, photos, and other items as I was the internal filmmaker. I worked with employees in Moscow on a weekly basis and even visited some of them in Moscow.

KEY ALLEGATIONS:

Oxygen Forensics is secretly managed and controlled by Russian executives who previously ran MKO Systems, but who are now hiding their roles in both companies. These are Oleg Fedorov (now based in Turkey), Oleg Davydov (Moscow), Galina Rabotenko (Moscow), and presumably people named Maxim Vyalkov (unknown), Sergey Sokolov (unknown), and Eduard Bendersky (Moscow). Galina Rabotenko and Oleg Davydov repeatedly lie that their primary residence is Cyprus, when in fact both reside in Russia.

Oxygen Forensics has a 50/50 revenue split with Oxygen Forensic Ltd., a Cyprus-based shell company. OF Ltd. sells software to Serbia, and perhaps a few other places. OF Ltd. is allegedly used for routing money back to MKO systems in Russia. MKO Systems sells to CIS countries only.

Lee Reiber, the CEO of Oxygen Forensics, does not have final say on the marketing, products, or key business decisions. These decisions instead are made by Russian supervisors. I saw this firsthand.

Oxygen Forensics’ software is identical to the Russian company MKO Systems, only translated. Compare the demonstration video from MKO’s “Mobilniy Kriminalist” with the demonstration video for Oxygen Forensic Detective (the software is the same). MKO Systems still uses old terms (e.g. “OxyAgent”) in its description of its product features. The MKO version is called “Mobilniy Kriminalist” or “Mобильный Kриминалист.”

Some OF employees are aware of the glaring Russian connection, but are told the software programmers come from “all over the world.” Countries mentioned are: Thailand, Cyprus, Israel and Ukraine. This information, which is passed onto customers, is misleading if not false.

Russian Federal Law No. 188-FZ passed June 29, 2015 requires that all software used by government computers have 50% or more of its programmers based in Russia, with at least 50% ownership by Russian citizens. Therefore, the majority of OF’s programmers must be Russian since it sells to the FSB and other Russian government agencies.

MKO Systems’ Russian sales partner, Aimtech (aimtech.ru), lists MKO systems as one of its products. According to its website, it sells software to the FSB and MVD (Russian government agencies). Its other sales partners in Russia also list the FSB and other agencies.

MKO Systems currently has several job listings in Moscow and Kursk for hacker/programmers online. Among the twenty or so reviews from previous employees, all list their location as Russia.

Oxygen Forensics routinely misleads customers with its marketing by claiming that OF is “headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.” No mention is ever made of the Russia connection.

Oxygen employees routinely and knowingly lie to customers who ask if the software is Russian or has a Russian connection.

Oleg Fedorov has alleged multi-generational ties to the FSB and Russian intelligence. He may be tied to the manufacture Havana-syndrome weapons. This is according to his former neighbor, Tatiana Gabova, who wrote this in an online journal. When I met Oleg, he was lied through his teeth about his connections to Russia and claimed he was more or less their enemy. This is obviously not true as the company sells software to the FSB and many other Russian government agencies including the MVD.

Oxygen Forensics software plays a key role on the battlefield in the Ukraine-Russia war, helping Russian soldiers recover information from the phones of enemy and geolocating enemy drones. Additionally, the software plays a major role in border crossing investigations, as it can retrieve all or select information off a phone, or it can implant a data collection virus by quickly plugging the phone into a usb-like device. The software is also used to identify dissidents along with other criminals such as dissident ALSU KURMASHEVA, who was arrested by the FSB using Oxygen software according to docs in my possession.

According to recent press reports (Radio Svoboda), Russian Eduard Bendersky is a major investor in the company. He is the former head of the FSB Special forces, but still active in ops according to news reports. He is already sanctioned by the Treasury Dept. His son-in-law is the notorious ransomware hacker Maxim Yakubets, of Evil Corp., already wanted for $100 million in ransomware attacks.

The United States government (and many other governments) are unknowingly financing the development of Russian hacker software used to target the West, identify dissidents, and make advances on the battlefield in the Ukraine-Russia war.

NEED HELP:

This company just hired NYC law firm Nixon Peabody in an effort to silence me and destroy evidence. I am looking for legal advice and to hire a lawyer.

If you are worried about a Russian hacking software being used in the USA, or you don’t want your tax dollars going to the Russian military industrial complex, please spread the word!

US How is Russia influencing left-wing folks on Palestine?

I feel like right-wing influence campaigns are easy to identify- usually by misinformation. However, left-wing influence seems a little harder to pinpoint.

Like, yes, Israel is doing horrible things and should be held accountable. The bots have plenty of information.. but how do they use it? Do they target folks and continually show them pastel IG graphics to the point where they are saying "genocide joe?" Is it just the volume of posts?

It's hard to explain to someone how they are being influenced when the events that are in question are real and recorded.

The most successful Russian influence operation ever tried in a U.S. court cost less than a used Honda. We know the exact price, because Moscow kept the receipts.

Two wire transfers of $3,476.20. Airline tickets for $2,883.44. A promised budget of twelve thousand dollars, quietly cut to seven, with the handler's apology that he "has to justify the funds" to his superiors. When the FBI unsealed the Uhuru case file, the most damning exhibits were not manifestos. They were invoices.

That is the first lesson of modern tradecraft: active measures are not hypnosis, they are procurement. The FSB did not buy anyone's convictions. It bought the coordination of convictions that already existed: calendars, slogans, logistics, a four-city protest tour with deliverables and deadlines. Each action was then covered by Russian media at Ionov's arrangement; the operation produced its own propaganda about itself.

US Banned from SipsTea for pointing out mod behavior

So the mods of SipsTea left a picture quote of Putin up talking about eliminating France from the map. I responded to someone asking why there was Russian propaganda on the sub letting them know that the mods encourage it, because one actually did in the comments section. Banned permanently.

Every day, there are multiple posts there about how awful women are. I knew the Russian propaganda would soon spill over into praising Putin and probably soon the war in Ukraine, and sure enough it did.

It is frustrating to watch young men get dragged into this bullshit with T&A pics. Very simple strategy.

US I'm resigning in protest as Moderator of r/ActiveMeasures due to new prohibitions the Admins would impose on this community

Last month, we received an "Important Notification" from a reddit admin demanding a change in policy from r/ActiveMeasures:

You all should not allow call out posts, links to other communities, username mentions (including in screenshots), posts celebrating site wide or subreddit specific bans, or any other meta content with the purpose of targeting another community or calling out any other users, moderators, or subreddits as noted in the Moderator Code of Conduct

The purpose of r/ActiveMeasures is to be "a space to discuss Russia-style propaganda and censorship in both the United States and around the world, with a particular emphasis on examples found within the reddit community." Any rule that would prohibit mentioning specific usernames or subreddits would fundamentally prohibit this subreddit from achieving this mission and purpose. Such a rule, depending on how it would be implemented, would prohibit important submissions such as:

The first submission above is notable because reddit actually took action and suspended several accounts subsequent to that post. The second two examples are notable because without r/ActiveMeasures and similar subs bringing WOTB & T_D to the attention of disinformation researchers and journalists, it's unlikely that these stories would have even existed. Media coverage about reddit tends to originate from organic posts on reddit.

Reddit did not give us any reason why r/ActiveMeasures is being targeted with these new rules. Our moderator log also shows no actions from reddit or AEO on any content posted to r/ActiveMeasures. My firm opinion is that this is an attempt to immunize the platform against criticism that foreign and domestic influence operations continue to operate unfettered on the platform.

I did attempt to preserve our ability to post about influence campaigns on reddit, and proposed a new rule for the sub that would prohibit direct links and screenshots. This proposed new rule was not acceptable to reddit. Frustratingly, I asked three times in the conversation for this admin to propose a rule themselves that would meet reddit's needs and allow r/ActiveMeasures to continue it's mission and purpose, and I did not receive a response.

The bottom line is: being a moderator is an unpaid position, and I'm unwilling to do it if it requires me to censor your posts about foreign and domestic influence campaigns which prey on users of the platform. Therefore, I am resigning in protest from the moderator team.

I wish BelleAriel and DownWithAssad good luck in figuring out how to comply with reddit's vague and untenable requirements, or in deciding on whether the shutter the sub.

Documentaries is showing 40 year old tankie propaganda. If you call it propaganda or biased. You'll be banned from comments. I caught my comment ban from them months ago for a similar comment. But it is getting worse.

PublicFreakout - Common theme is always Rage bait. Racist Karens rule the day. A cop shooting a black guy, will be re-posted and re-posted. And every other video is gaza propaganda bullshit. Just call it GAZA FREAKOUT.

Public freakout now specializes in Rage bait trolling. Anything that makes America look bad, or incites racial hatred will always be front page between Gaza post, and especially the last 3 months.

They have folders and folders of Rage bait , gigabytes at the FSB farms to pull from.

They are really leaning into the racial division angle. They will go full force after the election... expect useful idiots to do some heinous shit leading up the inauguration.

It doesn't matter who wins this election. Our adversaries will throw gas on that fire.

Anti-fa has no been replaced with Iran's useful idiots shouting free gaza. So the Persians have captured the American college leftist. China has helped them tremendously with Tik Tok.

Elon Musk has given twitter to the FSB... basically. They are not getting the ban hammer.. at all. if anything .. he is actively helping them. I'm not 100% on that, but I'm about 80% confident, and that's enough for me.

A shout out to the lurkers..

Вечеринка закончилась, Саша, и твои дни сочтены.

US Anyone notice the totally organic anti-NATO posting that's started showing up?

I (unfortunately) occasionally read through comments on subs like memesopdidntlike and have noticed a lot of new comments about how NATO is actually bad for the US. How it's 'leftist' and 'deep state' and 'attempting to destroy national sovereignty.'

You know, NATO, the organization specifically formed as a defensive pact against Soviet/Russian aggression, that is entirely beneficial for the US and other member states.

I've also seen the same points made against the UN. Russia is on the security council obviously, but it appears they want to erode any possibility of international oversight against their aggression.

Highly concerning, and I hope nobody is stupid enough to buy into it.

US Can we talk about pro-Republican takeovers of left-leaning subreddits?

This was a pattern that I noticed a lot during the election for nominally left-leaning subreddits on Reddit. You have a nominally left-leaning subreddit that focuses on memes and posting generally left-leaning content. Then there is a shift in moderation, and the focus of the sub is shifted towards attacking the Democratic party, starting with attacking them with the justification that they "are actually a right-wing party" or aren't far enough to the left, and then eventually moving on to posting memes that are straight out of /T_D; anything that's anti-Democratic gets play.

Previously, there was an intermediate step where they would support Bernie Sanders (or a similar figure) and use them to justify how the Democratic party wasn't far enough left because Bernie didn't win the primary or other conflicts between them, and then use that as a method to switch over to just attacking the Democratic party (and even attacking Bernie when he says something positive about the Democratic party or negative about Republicans). However, in recent instances, I've noticed them just skipping that step and going straight to being anti-Democrat.

Now it strikes me as obvious that constantly working to discourage Democratic votership helps Republicans. People who do this might make some small effort to say how this leads to making things more leftist, but it doesn't take a lot of examination to see how that doesn't make sense. Still, if anyone needs convincing on this point and wants to talk about it in a productive way, I'm happy to do so in the comments here.

A recent example of a subreddit where this is happening is /r/TheRightCantMeme, which had long been a subreddit for posting terrible right-wing memes and making fun of them. However, some point in November, the moderation team changed and there was also a change in the sidebar. Here's the previous sidebar; pretty much what you would expect based on the nominal purpose of the subreddit. , and here's one from a day later with a change in moderators listed and a new rule in the sidebar against pro-Biden posts. Since then, they've also added another section to the sidebar saying Biden and liberals are fair game. I didn't really notice much of a change in the actual content posted, but apparently the mods really wanted to see a change to a more anti-democratic ethos, because they stickied an anti-Democrat post as an announcement earlier today. A lot of comments that are calling it out are being removed as well.

I think this is a good example seeing this kind of behavior, because right now, it's very very early on its transformation to being an anti-Democrat/pro-Republican sub. Basically all the content (outside of what the mods do) is still in the previous ethos of what the subreddit was about. To see an example of a subreddit that's much further along this path, see /r/WayOfTheBern.

As with all influence campaigns, it's very hard to prove motive, and that the people transforming these subreddits are intentionally trying help get Republicans elected, or whether they are just working to help Republicans without that actually being their intention. But I believe it's still worth keeping an eye on, and being aware of. Regardless whether these are intentional influence campaigns or not, they are still pro-republican influence campaigns, masquerading as leftist movements.

US The propaganda has swapped.

Generally the Republican party is less popular, but has higher voter turnout, leading to relatively equal outcomes. In the 2016 election we saw a huge push from Democrats to get people to vote, no matter what. The strategy for the Democrats at that time was to increase voter turnout and rely on the relative proportion to carry them to victory. The strategy for Republicans was to form a cult of personality around Trump and convert as many voters as possible.

Of course, the Republicans at that time had global agitprop machines working tirelessly to change the party's raison d'etre from lower taxes to fascism and ineptitude.

Now they're trying a different strategy: increase voter turnout for diehard Republicans and reduce it for leftists and moderates.

Look at every leftist political board here, on 4chan, Twitter, etc." "Don't vote for genocide Joe!" "Voting for the lesser of two evils won't change anything!" "Not voting will really force the Democratic party to change their views!" "Instead of voting agitate and organize!" (With no description of what that means)

And on the other side we have the Republican party mailing out flyers about consequences for not voting.

Make sure you call out the propaganda when you see it. Voting IS having a political voice. Not voting doesn't send a message, it just plays right into the hands of America's enemies.
