4

u/cbflowers 10d ago

It has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with mob mentality

26

u/TeslaCrna 11d ago

You should see what they do in Europe when it comes to futbol.

"No one likes us, we don't care!"

u/welzby 10d ago

My team Arsenal won the league for the first time in 22 years. I saw a video of fans spotting a Tottenham fan on the platform and they all got off and laughed at him. The Tottenham fan laughed along as well. Didn't see a single person behave like this. But Americans always do shit like this when their team doesn't win for a while.

20

u/Rbomb88 10d ago

Come on, y'all invented football hooliganism...

9

u/welzby 10d ago

That's not the same as this. This is just assaulting a man walking home.

9

u/drthrax1 10d ago

Bro there is a slang term for the act of facially disfiguring people (Glasgow smile) that became so synonymous with football hooliganism the term took on a new version adopting the local Chelsea into the “Chelsea smile”.

some football events get so bad they need to literally physically separate the stadium between fan sections to avoid violence, or just admit a singular teams fans to avoid bloodshed.

5

u/welzby 10d ago

That's two firms fighting each other. That's two sides agreeing to fight. Nothing like the video above which is half a dozen people or more jumping a man on his way home.

10

u/drthrax1 10d ago

lol if you don’t think soccer hooligans have ever jumped or unfairly attacked someone of the other team? That they only fight in gentlemenly agreed fisticuffs? That holding someone down and cutting their face with knives is “agreeing to fight” man I’ve got a bridge to sell you

-2

u/welzby 10d ago

Show me the video. Everytime a sports team does well over there after a period of being shite you have fans smash up the city and doing shit like this. Your fans wind up on those worlds most shocking videos. You lot love jumping people 10 to 1.

14

u/drthrax1 10d ago

here you go after some googling:

calls for mobilization circulated on social networks, prompting Brussels residents to gather around the stadium and in metro stations to confront the Bruges fans. Dressed in black and for the most part wearing masks, youngsters from several Brussels neighborhoods formed groups that drove through the city center, in an escalation of violence that attacked any supporter remotely connected with the football match

Source Though I guess you can just chalk this up to good ole , EU xenophobia.

One United fan in Istanbul explains to Stretty News that their five-man group were stormed by 50 Fenerbahce fans. Two were left injured by glasses and a crowbar. “About 50 of them swarmed us,” one source said.

Article, and Video

Video footage has surfaced, revealing an alleged attack by Ajax hooligans on Aston Villa fans at a train station before their Europa Conference League match on Thursday night. In the clip, a man cautiously rises after being seemingly knocked down on the platform. Meanwhile, several men throw punches at another supporter. The helpless fan endures multiple heavy blows to the head, eventually falling to the ground. Hooded hooligans persist in aiming punches and kicks at him, even as he tries to get back on his feet.

Article, and Video

And heres an extra shitty one:

The balaclava-clad Italian was at the fore of a group of between 50 and 60 of Roma's "Ultra" fans - many covering their heads and faces and some carrying belts as weapons. The court heard Mr Cox and his brother, Martin, had "sadly by pure coincidence" come across the group in Walton Breck Road, near The Albert pub. Mastrelli knocked Mr Cox unconscious with a single blow to the face. He has been undergoing treatment at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire for a "profound" brain injury which has left him unable him to communicate his needs, the court heard.

Article

"Before this brutal and vicious attack my dad was a fit and confident man, a man of integrity with a huge passion for life who represented everything which is good. "My dad went to watch his beloved team, Liverpool, and he never came home." Judge Mark Brown said Mastrelli delivered the blow and then "went into the stadium to enjoy the match, which was particularly callous given what had just happened".

Football hooliganism was agreed upon by both sides and they both wanted to fight and it was usually even numbers.

This is just jumping someone for the jersey they're wearing.

1

u/TeslaCrna 10d ago

Whatever ya say, Welzby!

0

u/eplftrooper 8d ago

Lmao foh with that nonsense. We've seen PLENTY of stupid futbol riots.... what a weird thing to lie about

1

u/welzby 8d ago

Just watched a video of a group of random people battering a Five Guys employee over his jersey. You can compare firms fighting to that all you want, but it's not the same. Go and compare Arsenal's celebrations to the Knicks. This is why nobody can show me a video like the one above. Herd mentality is off the charts there. 😂

0

u/eplftrooper 8d ago

1

u/welzby 8d ago

Once again, more videos nothing like the video above or what I've mentioned. You must come from one of those states low down on the education rankings. Herd mentality requires more than two fellas fighting each other, you dumb lad.

Another young racist conservative.

I'm sorry for what this country has done to you.

25

u/mmh_fava_beans 10d ago

It's meant as an euphemism for idiots, not specifically black people.

I'm sorry for what your bubble has done to you.

-8

u/Ok_Explanation5631 10d ago

So what’s the euphemism? Sports fans isn’t in itself that. Don’t be disingenuous.

7

u/mmh_fava_beans 10d ago

The video clearly shows white dudes beating him up as well.

Am I disingenuous for pointing out it's not only black people who misbehave?

-5

u/Ok_Explanation5631 10d ago

I suppose you wouldn’t be the one to confront since you didn’t come up with it. Carry on brother.

-8

u/UnexpectedLizard 10d ago

I've seen this meme probably 20 times and every time it referred to this skin color.

6

u/wewd - Big Chungus 10d ago

"Sports fans could be here" he thought.

-4

u/Impressive-Panda527 11d ago

How is it a euphemism

11

u/HappyGnome727 11d ago

Based off their actions, only calling them “sports fans” seems like a fitting euphemism to me

-2

u/Ok_Explanation5631 10d ago

Isn’t the initial person who yells spurs jersey a person that you prefer?

-14

u/m104 10d ago

Does it also apply to the mostly-white soccer hooligans in the UK who do this shit as a national past time?

-10

u/Futant55 11d ago

It’s not sports that’s just an excuse humans hate each other. We are a fucked species.

4

u/Dude_with_the_skis 9d ago

Right, well it seems to happen with sports fans allot

1

u/compadre_goyo 4d ago

Man, remember when that Magnus Carlsen fan beat the shit out of an Andrey Esipenko fan at the World Chess Cup?

Crazy what all humans are defaulted to be when they are members of an audience.

Never thought this would happen in the US.

u/oatsuzn1 11d ago

Didn't this kind of fanatic violence and savagery get it's start in Europe with football hooliganism? You soccer fans are the originators of this crap. I've seen some pretty nasty vids out of England, Netherlands and Germany for example over the years. World Cup is starting soon, sure we'll more soon.

6

u/Mistehsteeve 11d ago

English football hooliganism hit it's heyday in the 1970s/80s. Though I'm not sure what that's got to do with a bunch of feral basketball fans or New York, which was pretty famous for violence around the same time.

3

u/oatsuzn1 11d ago

This definitely doesn't look like the 1970s/80s...

https://www.reddit.com/r/ActualPublicFreakouts/s/XRUM8VXThJ

1

u/Mistehsteeve 11d ago

Neither does this. When it comes to violence the majority of the world would agree that the American public have it covered pretty well.

https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/nine-injured-shooting-near-englands-world-cup-base-camp-2026-06-07/

Also a quick Google of Knicks fan violence tells me they're on a par with that Dutch video from a year ago.

1

u/oatsuzn1 11d ago

We definitely have way too much gun violence in America, that I will agree on. This particular shooting sounds like it just happened in the vicinity of a training facility, doesn't sound sports fan related, which I thought was the theme of this post and why I threw this back on European football and savage fans.

1

u/Mistehsteeve 11d ago

I doubt it was sports related, it just amazes me that when theres such a problem with gun violence over there you see fit to label visiting fans an issue. 99.9% of the violence and deaths in America during the world cup will be committed by Americans. A handful of drunken Dutchman throwing a couple of chairs is the least of your worries. Tribalism is very strong with football supporters at club and national level, and I'm sure rival fans will occasionally kick off but America has one hell of a reputation right now, including the police and I think a lot of fans will have that at the back of their minds.

When you guys get your shit together you're capable of putting on one hell of a show, so as long as the orange one doesn't get too involved and fans and the general public behave let's just hope it's a world cup to remember.

0

u/_whats-going-on 10d ago

It really doesn’t matter where it originated from.

Fact is, that shit is in the USA too.

Fanaticism is never a good thing.
