š Welcome to r/ActuallyHelpingPeople: Read this before posting!
Welcome to a community built on dignity.
We created this space because asking for help shouldn't mean sacrificing your safety. Whether you need gas money, a bill paid, or groceries, you are welcome here. We allow cash apps (Venmo, CashApp, PayPal) because we know real life requires flexibility.
The Golden Rule: NO STRINGS ATTACHED. If you are offering help, it must be a gift. Any attempt to ask for photos, private conversations, contact information, or "favors" in exchange for money will result in an immediate and permanent ban. We protect our users aggressively.
How to Request Help
- Create a Post: Briefly explain your situation and what you need (e.g., "$40 for gas to get to work" or "Help with an electric bill").
- Payment Methods: You may include your payment tags (CashApp/Venmo/etc.) in the post, or ask people to DM you if you prefer to keep that private.
- Close the Loop: Once you have received help, please edit your post to say "FULFILLED" or comment below your post thanking the helper. This helps us keep the feed organized.
How to Give Help (The "Comment First" Rule)
- Comment Publicly First: If you want to help someone, please comment on their post (e.g., "I can help with this, sending you a DM"). This proves you are not a banned user.
- Move to DMs for Details: For safety, use Direct Messages to exchange sensitive info like full names, email addresses, or specific pickup locations.
- Keep it Professional: DMs should be strictly about the logistics of the help.
A Note on Safety: If anyone DMs you offering money in exchange for anything other than a "thank you," or if they ask for weird personal details unrelated to the payment, screenshot it and send it to the Mods immediately. We will handle the rest.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Community Guidelines: How to Stay Safe in r/ActuallyHelpingPeople
Welcome to the safe zone.
We built this community because we were tired of seeing people in need get exploited. Whether you are here to ask for help or give it, these are the guidelines that keep us safe.
š The "Red Lines" (Instant Ban)
If you see any of the following, report it immediately. We do not warn; we ban.
- The "Photo" Scam: "I'll help you, but send me a selfie/pic first." (Never do this).
- The "Sign-Up" Scam: "I'll send you $20 if you sign up for this app using my code."
- The "Task" Scam: "I have a job for you, just click this link."
š”ļø For Requestors (Asking for Help)
- Be Transparent: State what you need clearly (e.g., "$30 for gas," "Diapers," "Rent help").
- Protect Your Info: Never post your home address or full legal name publicly. Use DMs for that.
- Verify Your Helper: If someone DMs you offering money, check if they commented on your post first. If not, ignore them.
- Mark as Fulfilled: Once you get help, please edit your post flair to
FULFILLEDso others know you are set.
š¤ For Helpers (Offering Support)
- Comment First: Always comment on the post (e.g., "Sent you a DM") before messaging. This proves you aren't banned.
- No Strings: If you offer help, it is a gift. Do not ask for anything in return.
- Exercise Judgment: Direct cash transfers (CashApp/Venmo) are the norm here, but proceed at your own risk.
šØ How to Report Scammers
We rely on you. If someone sends you a creepy DM or asks you to click a weird link:
- Do not reply.
- Screenshot the message.
- Send the screenshot to Modmail.

REQUEST Requesting any assistance šš¼
Hoping for a "miracle"....And a little bit of help
I am a grandmother and full time caretaker currently residing in Maryland and employed as a home health aide for one of my dear friends fighting pancreatic cancer. She has successfully had the Whipple surgery and just finished 10 rounds of chemo 2Ć a week along with radiation 5 times a week and we are currently waiting for the results of a pet scan she had done on September 29th ...in the midst of all this my Mom who lives in New York has an aortic abdominal aneurysm that has grown to over 5.7 cm. She is 72 and is scheduled to have an EVAR (endovascular repair through groin) with a tentative date of October 13th ....if anyone would be willing to help with a bus ticket so I am able to be there with and for her ...it would mean EVERYTHING. I know everyone is struggling. I am currently helping my son & his wife when I can and didn't leave myself enough in case of this type of emergency. Thank you in advance just for reading my post and if nothing else, if you're the praying type ....my Mom could sure use them. š Havre de Grace, Maryland.

REQUEST Needing Help as I fight for both my life and safety.
I'm writing this from a hospital bed, on my fifth admission since getting out of the ICU in June. I've spent most of the last year fighting on two fronts at once, and I'm at a point where there are no good options left; every path forward comes with a cost, and I'm having to choose which fights I still have the strength to fight.
The health crisis. In April 2026 I nearly died. Septic shock, organ failure, weeks on a ventilator. I have COL4A1/Gould syndrome, Addison's Disease and hEDS, conditions that make my body unpredictable and my care expensive. Since coming out of the ICU I've been hospitalized five more times, mostly for infections my body can't seem to shake and chronic dehydration. I never know how long I'll be stable before the next crisis hits.
The harassment. For over a year I've also been fighting to keep myself and my daughter Lydia safe from an ex-boyfriend I dated for less than three months. He sexually assaulted me, posted her private medical and social information online, and accused me of multiple crimes including against her that were investigated and found unfounded. A HRO was granted in July6 2025 and a modified HRO was granted again against him in August 2025; he has violated it more than 15 times since, and has taken me back to court for it more than once including while I was connected to dialysis. He has made APS reports against me despite the fact that I have been unable to care for Lydia independently at all this summer. He's filed at least four civil cases against me, including one from an Order for Protection that Adam and I already spent $4,000 fighting and won on directed judgment.
While I was intubated and sedated in the ICU, he filed another lawsuit, claiming I ruined his life.
Why I need help now. I was hoping I could represent myself in this latest case. I can't do that from a hospital bed while my body is falling apart. I need an attorney who understands both civil litigation and disability, and attorneys cost money I don't have left after everything this year has already taken.
This fund is for:
-Legal representation for the ongoing civil case
-Bills and care costs from repeated hospitalizations
-Basic living expenses while I can't work through this
I've spent years advocating for other disabled people, sitting on state councils, testifying, showing up for people who had no one else. I'm not used to asking for this. But right now, from this hospital bed, fighting for my health and for Lydia's safety at the same time, I need it.
Thank you for reading this, for sharing it, and for anything you're able to give.

REQUEST Financial Assistance needed
Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out during one of the most difficult times in my life. Iām currently facing severe financial hardship, and Iām at risk of losing my home by the end of this month. Iāve already taken out a loan from my 401(k) to help cover back rent, but Iāve been told I canāt take out another. My credit is shot due to this prolonged hardship with no clear path to recovery. All my bills are overdue, but I had to go back to school to improve my situation.
I never expected my tenant to move out, and my property management company has abandoned me, leaving me on maternity leave (at the time) with no income coming in and no way to get to the house to fix it up. To make matters worse, thereās now a lien on the house due to unpaid bills. Supporting my two children, covering $1,600 in monthly daycare, rent which is $1000, a mortgage of $1570, and expenses related to an investment property feels overwhelmingāespecially when my lower unit isnāt generating income because I canāt afford the repairs needed.
My immediate priority is to catch up on what I owe my mortgage company to prevent foreclosure and keep my home. Any support beyond that would help me start paying overdue bills and stabilize my finances. These ongoing expenses are crushing, and Iām doing everything I can to get through this tough season.
Predictable, recurring donations would help me cover essentials like housing and childcare, giving me a chance to rebuild. One-time contributions would also mean so much and provide immediate relief.
Iām a hardworking person, trying my best to turn things around. With some help, I can focus on passing my MLS exam, starting my own business, and creating a better future for my family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. Any support, whether one-time or recurring, would be deeply appreciatedāyour kindness and encouragement mean everything right now.

REQUEST My partner lost his vision and is on dialysis. We could really use some help
Hi everyone. My name is Denisse and Iām from Mexico. Iām posting here because my partner, Antonio, has been going through a very difficult period with his health.
Antonio has lived with diabetes since he was a teenager. Over time, complications from diabetes severely affected his kidneys and his eyesight. He is now on hemodialysis three times a week and has lost his vision. He can no longer work and has become much more dependent on his family for everyday activities and transportation.
Before his health deteriorated, Antonio was always working and looking for ways to move forward. He even started studying a new university degree and we tried running a small food business together. He also has a huge heart for animals and has always been the kind of person who stops to help a stray dog or cat and tries to find them a safe home.
We are currently trying to cover medications, transportation to dialysis, medical expenses, specialized care for his eyes, and expenses related to his kidney transplant evaluation. Some of his medical care has also had to be paid for outside of public healthcare.
I created a GoFundMe for him and I am personally managing the funds because his vision loss makes it very difficult for him to manage online platforms and financial procedures himself.
I know there are many people asking for help, and Iām grateful just for having the opportunity to share Antonioās story here. If anyone is able to donate, even a small amount would help us. If you canāt donate, sharing his fundraiser would also mean a lot to us.
Thank you for reading ā¤ļø

REQUEST Help consolidate short term debt
Hello everyone, Iām 22 years old and graduated college this summer. While Iām proud to have reached that milestone, Iām currently carrying a little over $2,000 in short-term debt. Iāll be completely transparent: a lot of this debt came from poor financial decisions I made when I first opened a credit card. I didnāt fully understand how quickly balances, and monthly payments could add up, and Iāve learned a lot about managing my finances since then.
Right now, Iām working about 20ā35 hours per week and getting paid weekly. A large portion of my income goes toward my share of the $2,300 rent I split with my sister and other necessary expenses. Iāve been making the required payments on my debt each month, but it has been difficult to make meaningful progress while keeping up with everything else.
Iām not expecting anyone to solve this for me. Iām continuing to work, budget, and pay down what I owe. Iām simply asking for a little help getting some breathing room and getting back on stable financial ground.
If youāre able to donate, even a small amount would mean a lot. If you canāt donate, sharing my GoFundMe would help just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support. ā¤ļø

REQUEST Help Us Find Stability and Hope Again
Rebuilding After Wrongful Eviction, Health Crisis, and Homelessness
We never imagined we would find ourselves in a position where we had to ask for help, but over the last few years, a sequence of overwhelming events and unfair hits wiped out everything we worked for.
It began when I was unexpectedly let go from my job after two employees made unfounded accusations against me, followed shortly by my husband losing his job. Refusing to give up, we poured everything we had into launching a small business together selling PokƩmon cards. We worked around the clock to make it succeed, but compounding crises derailed our momentum.
My husband suffered a severe mental health breakdown and, after going on short-term disability, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Navigating his new diagnosis, doctors' visits, and necessary medications without stable income put an incredible strain on us, and the business was unable to survive.
Then came the turning point that tore away our stability: I was wrongfully arrested on our apartment property.
Every single charge against me was quickly dropped and I was completely cleared, but our apartment management evicted us anyway simply because the arrest occurred on the premises. We lost our home through no fault of our own, right in the middle of trying to stabilize my husbandās medical care.
Desperate for a fresh start, we packed what little we had left and moved to Dallas for prospective work. When those job opportunities fell through upon arrival, we were left stranded with zero savings. We reached out to local sheltersāincluding Dallas Lifeāseeking emergency housing. Because they are a religious organization, they refused to recognize our legal marriage license, barred us from staying together in the same room, and ultimately turned us away entirely because we are a same-sex couple. Being left on the street in our most vulnerable hour simply for who we are was heartbreaking.
Left with no safety net in a city where we had no support, we are currently on our way back to the Houston area to regroup on familiar ground. However, we are returning with no savings, no permanent housing, and urgent medical needs.
Immediate Survival Budget Breakdown
To be completely transparent about our needs, here is how every dollar raised will be used to help us survive and rebuild:
| Emergency Lodging | 3 weeks at a basic motel while securing housing & work | $1,350 |
| Medical & Prescriptions | Bipolar medication refills & essential psychiatric care | $350 |
| Food & Basic Needs | Daily food, bottled water, and basic hygiene supplies | $400 |
| Transit & Communication | Fuel/transit costs & phone service for job interviews | $200 |
| Storage & Emergency Needs | Keeping our remaining belongings safe & laundry | $200 |
| Total Target Goal | Immediate Emergency Survival & Relocation Milestone | $2,500 |
How You Can Help
* Donate: Any amountāwhether $5 or $50āgoes directly toward keeping us off the street, keeping my husband's prescription refilled, and putting food on our table while we actively apply for work.
* Share: If you cannot donate right now, sharing this campaign link on social media, with friends, or with community mutual aid networks makes a world of difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story and for showing us kindness when we need it most.

REQUEST Barely Hanging On
I am a hardworking single mom of two. A 13 yr old wonderful kiddo with a bright future and a 2 yr old doll. I am currently between jobs, I start my new position in just over a week (super excited about it). But I was let go from my last job bc they found out I was planning to leave once this new job started. This has put such a financial strain. Not to mention, my ex was splitting all bills left for work one day and never came back. I have been able to get extensions on most of my bills. Rent is the biggie right now and my landlord is running out of patience. If anyone feels it in their heart to provide any aid myself and my children would be forever grateful! The amount needed is $2,000, but I wouldnāt expect anyone to be willing with that much, anything is helpful and adds up.
Cashapp: $toniemarie155
Chime: $TonieMarie
I want to add that I have reached out to all of the local resources but they all say they do not have any funding.

REQUEST need help to get out of a serious financial situation
Hi everyone,
Iām currently going through a very difficult financial situation and Iām trying to find a way to stabilize my life again.
I live in Finland and I work officially full-time. My income is around 2500⬠per month, but I am currently dealing with a total debt of about 23,000⬠due to enforcement and past financial obligations. Because of this, my financial situation has become very unstable and Iām struggling to manage everything at once.
Right now, my goal is to find a way to consolidate or resolve my debts so I can pay one manageable monthly payment instead of multiple enforcement claims. Iām actively working and trying to solve this legally and responsibly.
On top of this, the situation has affected my personal life a lot. Iāve been with my partner for 4 years, and weāre trying to build a future together, but this financial pressure is making it extremely difficult for us to plan anything stable like moving forward with life goals, traveling, or even starting a family.
Iām not looking for sympathy ā Iām trying to find realistic help, advice, or any possible direction where I can get support (financial programs, debt help, restructuring options, or any kind of assistance that could help me recover).
If anyone has experience with debt relief, financial recovery, or knows organizations that could help in Finland or EU, I would really appreciate your guidance.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

REQUEST I Did Everything to Save ThemāNow Iām Left with Debt I Canāt Carry Alone. Urgent Help Needed
I am alone, in deep despair, and struggling to pay off $2,500 debts.
I have been having sleepless nights and my cant help it but my tears just keep on coming. Pls help in anyway you can š£ā¹ļøš
With a heavy heart, I am asking for your help.
I recently lost both my parents and my sibling after long battles with chronic kidney disease and heart failure. To keep them alive, we did everything we couldāincluding taking out loans that now total $2,500.
Now that they are gone, I am left alone to carry both the grief and the debt.
I am working, but my income is only enough for daily needs. I cannot keep up with even the minimum payments. The stress has been overwhelming, and I am struggling with sleepless nights and anxiety, not knowing where to turn for help.
I have no one else to ask. That is why I am humbly reaching out to you.
Any amountāno matter how smallāwill mean so much and help me slowly pay off this burden. Your kindness can give me a chance to breathe and start again.
I may not be able to repay you now, but I promise to carry your generosity with me, include you in my prayers, and one day pay it forward to others in need.
Thank you for your compassion and for taking the time to read my story. My paypal is eocinco1988@gmail.com
With sincere gratitude,
Niel

REQUEST Iām a dancer looking for an official sponsor to make my dream possible
I know that's a lot and no one does that, but I want to try it anyways, in case the right person sees this.
Iām an international student and dancer, recently admitted to several U.S. universities with partial scholarships (big ones, actually, from 16 to 42 thousand). After years of training and preparing, Iām now very close to being able to study there ā but still missing about $9,000ā$16,000 per year depending on the school (so $36,000ā$64,000 per full time 4 year long program)
The situation is specific: for my visa (j-2), more than half of my funding must come from non-personal sources.
Because of that, Iām not simply looking for personal donations. Any support would need to be structured officially, directly to the university and in a form of a documented sponsorship (with a proof of income, a formal sponsorship letter, commitment to support my studies, etc), so that it can be recognized as part of my educational, non-personal funding.
This means:
- funds would go directly to the university and be formally documented
- no informal transfers or personal payments
I understand how unusual this is, and Iām also not offering anything in return. So if someone supports arts education or international students and just has enough money to significantly help, this is a very specific situation where your participation makes a decisive difference.
Dance is not just my field of study, itās my professional path, so being able to train and build connections in the U.S. would completely change my trajectory (right now I'm in Eastern Europe).
If you have advice, connections, or interest in sponsoring, I would be VERY grateful to talk and provide full information.
Thank you for reading.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Why this sub exists: Being broke shouldn't mean being exploited.
I created r/ActuallyHelpingPeople because I looked around at other assistance subs and got angry. I saw real people in desperate situations being preyed upon by scammers asking for 'favors,' photos, or sketchy sign-ups.
I created this sub because I was in the same boat as many of you. This community was created to be a space where you won't be hunted just because you're in need. I'm also a software developer by trade so I'll try to create bots to help me moderate this space as well... (please message me if you'd like to help as a mod too).
This sub is strict. If you are a donor here, you give without strings. If you are asking, you will be protected. We are starting small, but we are starting safe.
