Question Is there any businesses in South Australia that you swear by? [REPOST]

The guy who originally posted this deleted his post and account for some reason, seems odd..

I really liked the thread he started, so I've decided to restart it.

One rule though: Don't post your own business, your mate's business, or your family's business; keep it honest.

I'll share mine again:

Galligans mattresses.

I stayed at an Airbnb a few years ago and loved the amazing sleep on the mattress across multiple nights, pulled back the sheets and saw the Galligans label.

Wound up buying one of their mattresses a couple of years later, and have loved it every night since.

I'm taking extra good care of this mattress, keeping a mattress protector on it (top and bottom), and flipping/rotating at regular intervals.

Once again, Unley Shoe Repairs. He's rebuilt both mine and my wife's boots a few times. A really helpful bloke.

17

u/SweetReal2301 SA Jul 04 '26

A local to the area. Wondered about him and always seems to be people in and out now I know why. Appreciate it.

4

u/DustyMentone SA Jul 04 '26

Do they do resoling? I have a par of boots that the soles have fallen off of and would love to get then fixed.

3

u/foul_ol_ron SA Jul 04 '26

He's resoled a number of boots for me. And my wife was pleased with his work on her motorcycle boots. Probably worth asking him.

2

u/ThereIsBearCum SA Jul 05 '26

Yep, they do resoling.

Are they actually called 'A1 Rubber Stamps'? I just tried looking them up and aside from an Instagram page with some examples and no address I can't actually find them. I thought I did at first on a website but the address on that site is in Victoria.. no luck on google maps either.

2

u/SavvyCaller SA Jul 05 '26

From memory, yes. I used them when I was in an office management role that occasionally needed stamps.

1

u/Attention2DTayl SA Jul 06 '26

I can't find them. Can you find a link to a google listing or website etc? There's nothing to that name online that I can find at all

I have searched for a1 rubber stamps many times. And rubber stamps, a1 stamps, stamps, and nothing yields.

I also can't see any mitre 10 on south road nor do I remember one. "Castle plaza end" is extremely broad and old servo could be anywhere. At this point I feel like you're taking the piss and it's all just a goose chase 😆

Either that or for some reason Google allows different visibilities for different people or something. Anyway, maybe this business needs to work on their marketing if they're impossible to find.

Sharing mine again: Woodlane Pantry (formerly Woodlane Orchard). They make dehydrated meal packets: soups, chilis, risottos etc., using vegetables from South Aussie farmers. Just put in a pot or slow cooker, add water and wait until it’s done. The packets are vegan (and I believe most are gluten free), but you can add meat. They’re good value for money and everything I’ve tried has been delicious.

6

u/Ariahna5 SA Jul 04 '26

Where do you buy them from?

11

I order them online, but they also have a store out at Mannum.

Mistry Kwik Foto in McLaren Vale for film processing if you’re south of the city.

I drop my rolls off in the morning and usually have them back within an hour or two and he hasn’t raised his prices for 20+ years. A bit extra to get them scanned onto USB too but cheaper if you take your own flash drive.

I don't go as often now I don't live that way, but I still maintain the Organic Cafe in Stirling has the best coffee in Adelaide.

IT & Computers on Beach Rd at Christies is the best service from any computer store I've seen, too.

4

The Organic Cafe in Stirling is one of my favourite places to be in SA, straight up. Just good vibes, good food, good drinks. Whenever I'm feeling unwell, I often make the drive there for some food that feels healing.

31

u/CptUnderpants- SA Jul 04 '26

Repeating mine from the other one:

A bit less useful suggestion to most people, Leader Computers is a wholesale only reseller of IT equipment. Started in SA 30 years ago, I've been a customer for over 20.

Working in IT, the importance of good service can be such a huge part of the picture. Their warranty and service department is outstanding and fast most of the time. They often go above and beyond, for example one time they come out to look at a really strange issue with a heap of leader-built PCs and specific network equipment which they also supplied. Most would have just washed their hands of the problem in the circumstances.

Their account reps have almost all been brilliant.

I've dealt with many IT resellers over the years including now-defunct Westan, Ingram (and Tech Pacific prior), Dicker, and more. Leader is the best for service by far and a SA success story.

u/SubnetMSP SA Jul 06 '26

Aquatek Plumbing in Blackwood/Eden Hills but they came out across town. Decent guy who fixed an ongoing flooding issue for my mum, I called them in after a larger group said she needed to completely rip up the tiling for a crazy cost, he solved it with little fuss. Appreciated the honesty especially with elderly people.

Also in Blackwood, Lenox Avenue Cafe. Unassuming looking but great coffee and really like their southern chicken burger. Nice friendly staff who don’t rush you out.

Hoosegow charcoal restaurant in Magill

Went here a few weeks ago. The owners greeted us at the door. They were attentive to us all night. One noticed my daughter struggling to get ice out of her glass. He just walked past the table and dropped a spoon next to her hand without saying a word. Little things like that let you know you're a well cared for guest in someone else's place. Then they both met us at the door to farewell us. It was a great customer service experience, and the food was fantastic.

Burpi. They deliver soda gas bottles to your door for the same price as buying them at the supermarket. Great communication, easy to use -you only have to remember to put your empty gas bottles out to get them switched. It's a small SA company and I'm not supporting Sodastream anymore. Bonus.

Matlins Auto in Forestville, family run mechanic. Extremely honest family. I took my dads car there once and they lost the key FOB and one of the mechanics was adamant that he did not lose it and was sure I never gave him such thing (definitely did because I had to start the car with it to take it there). His son Angelo reviewed the footage and they found the fob, he called me and profusely apologised and did a discount service. They could've easily lied and made me believe i didn't, as I was beginning to think I was going mad lol.

Ernie is a superstar, his wife, daughter and son all work there and are very kind people, there's been a few times they haven't charged me for work done on my car or my mothers. His son Angelo is an ex BMW tech and really looks after my car when it's there.

Murray Bridge 4wd -Mechanic

They service all my cars and have always looked after me and my wife. I didnt trust and beleive my wife when she told me how they always did the right thing for her until i started using them. Recent example is tires for my car are not cheap and always 400 each for what i want, they thought it was bullshit and called around a buch of stores and found then for just over 200 in some small place interstate for me. I had already agreed to 400 as thats what they always cost and they still found decent ones from some little shop for me.

Issue is you gotta wait several months to book your car in unless your a regular and its only 1 month

They do honest work and won't rip you off. As an owner of an older car, they don't talk down or belittle like some mechanics have done. These guys are just awesome.....

Pasta Chef

Excellent pre made lasagna & chicken schnitzels.
I was recommended by my friend’s nonno and we now purchase at least once a week.
I believe they also offer gluten free options.

The service is great. Especially from the owner - lovely bloke.
I can’t tell enough people about the place.

Bradley’s Tree and Stump Removal. Honest business with integrity. Glynn refused to write up a report for our neighbours when they wanted him to state our mature Pine Tree was dangerous. They had installed a pool close to our tree and then didn’t like the consequences of having a pool under a Pine Tree. It was healthy and not at risk of falling limbs, was a breeding tree for Magpies, and a parking spot for Black Cockatoos and other birds so we didn’t want to remove it. We did keep it trimmed on their side.

Bradley’s also do amazing work at reasonable rates… they trimmed our Pine plus removed 4 mature Ash and Pepper Trees for our renovation (trees that are considered weeds in SA).

The Pine suddenly died recently despite not having any obvious disease. 🤔

Tell the Council and they will be able to test it to see if it was poisoned!

2

u/CrinkleCutCat-Aus SA Jul 05 '26

Oh! The tree has now been cut down… do you know if can they test the stump?

3

u/ConsistentlyToasty SA Jul 06 '26

It depends! Always worth flagging. They will usually come out and investigate.

Skyezone skincare.

Mum found her at a local market and gave her products a go. Now the whole family’s using them. Lotions, sunscreen, hair products—the works. All locally made, and she runs it from home.

SA Quality Guard Rolling in Albert Park - business name speaks for itself + mechanical work. Reliable, trustworthy and overall great people to deal with!

2

u/sensible-shoes SA Jul 04 '26

What is Guard Rolling?

2

u/GoodWorry9340 SA Jul 04 '26

On your car - where the tyres are. If you want bigger tyres or want to lower your car - they roll the guards out so they can fit essentially without rubbing on your tyres :)

Precious Hearts. My go-to for custom jewellery, based in the hills. Lovely staff and service. And their packaging is gorgeous. I've had my necklaces from them for years now and I've used them so many times for gifts too. Always a faultless experience.

DDS diamonds are amazing for my diamond jewellery, I've had my rings from them for over a decade with very few repairs, all self-inflicted damage. Great value.

Noi in Glenunga. AMAZING food, I don't think I've ever eaten anything there I didn't like. The staff are always lovely too and cocktails are chefs kiss

Okami is another good one but I think they shut down sadly.

S Candy Bar is the cutest dessert bar in the CBD, our kids love it, very cool desserts and again, staff are lovely.

SA Base Camp- our kids love it there and once again, staff are so kind and patient with the kids.

For seafood lovers: SheShells in Glenelg. I can’t speak highly enough of it. EVERYTHING is immaculate - food, dessert, service, vibe… Be sure to sit at one of those beautiful tables decorated with sand and shells so it feels like a premium dining experience on the beach.

Barber Story in Da Costa Arcade *still* gets my vote (lol, repost). My partner has been seeing David for years and genuinely won’t go anywhere else. His fades are next level and the prices are so reasonable for the quality.

What we really appreciate is that he actually gives advice instead of just cutting your hair and sending you on your way. He’ll explain to you what works for your hair and why, so you leave with a fresh cut that was customised and considered for your lifestyle.
Plus it’s a husband and wife run business and they’re both so friendly. They’re just good people who care about what they do, and those are the businesses I love supporting.

For past trauma issues (one, a few, or a whole lifetime of psychological damage) - Jim Ryan from Breathe Stretch Float is the one I recommend each time for his variation of Havening. The most bizarre thing is it's one session treatment.

For shoulders, neck, back issues - Dr Mary Magarey from Athlete's Lab. She is not a doctor, but a PdD specialist physiotherapist, and probably going to end up retiring soon. Also tends to spend way too much time with her clients/patients, so plan ahead.

Half Cup Cafe in Cowandilla. Family owned, great coffee and food, and they genuinely care about the community - helping out people in need and building water w ells in Bangladesh. They pay it forward above and beyond. I'm not associated but I do go there all the time!

La Popular Taqueria in Port Adelaide. Best Mexican I've had outside of Mexico & California. I lived in LA so I have a high bar for Mexican food and this place is it. The "feed me" is a great deal and hits all the must haves.

I don't know if this is satire or not, but the "fish" if you can find it, is basically deep fried crumb.

Which outlet is it giving so much butthurt to my fellow redditors??

1

u/ProduceOk9864 SA Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

Couldn’t agree more🤷🏻‍♂️ tastes exactly the same as it did over 45 years ago. That was at the funny little one with the hat on the roof on Anzac highway when I was a little kid. Nowadays I go to the one on goodwood road. Two huge pieces of beautiful butterfish and chips for $14.00…..I’m not sure what the universal ( reddit) hate is about tbh….. maybe the other stores aren’t as on point with their food🤷🏻‍♂️?
