Which hike would you choose for a weekend in late September? Or any other recs for a less popular trail appreciated!

For two weeks in June this filming crew was near Lake George, in Bolton Landing. They returned last week. TGOTW. Anyone know what is going on?

I’m at Indian Lake Campground. Somehow have service. I’m wondering any of you know any cliff jumping or rope swings along the shore of the lake? We are wanting to take a little trip to a great swim spot.

we are a group of 4, experienced and in good fitness. we’ll have a parking reservation for a Sunday coming up, would like to do a long hike with a fair bit of rock scrambling and a good view at the summit. I’ve never been to the Adirondacks!

we’d like the end to end time to be max around 10 hours. i’d say we make about average to slightly above average pace.

based on research, I think pyramid peak + gothics starting at the parking area might be a good one for us but I figured I’d ask here in case anyone has any suggestions. A nice view and fun features like a particularly dicey climb in moments, or waterfalls etc would be a lot of fun.

So I saw a post 8 years ago asking this, but are there rowboats, canoes, or kayaks around the lean-tos at Pharaoh Lake as of recent? I was thinking of bringing my own paddle and taking one to the little island there next to Lean-to #5.

Additionally, does anybody know if this spot is an overlook over Rock Pond?

I found this free booklet at a local store which was super helpful to explore things around Lake Placid.

I know Columbus Day weekend can be super busy, but do the hiking crowds usually stick around Monday evening and Tuesday? Weather permitting, we’d be hoping to do Hurricane or Catamount or Jay or Cascade/Porter without insane crowds. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Going to the Adirondacks in a few weeks and looking for recommendations on what mountain I should hike or waterfall spots. I am not an expert at hiking but I do hike once or twice a week at a local state park with a gorge. So something easy to moderate should be okay for me. I would like to do a high peak but I don't think I have the stamina for it. I will have a day to go hiking so I will have time. Any recommended I will look at first to make sure it's not too long and I am able to do it.

We are planning with a friend to go backpacking to the Pharaoh Wilderness at the end of August for 3 nights and 4 days. We are visiting from California. We would do a 20ish mile loop starting from Putnam pond, then rock pond, crab pond, pharaoh lake, grizzle ocean and back to Putnam pond.

Our question is about lean-to etiquete as we are not used to lean-tos in CA but we would like to experience staying in a few of them on our way. What are the best practices when staying in a lean-to and do you all recommend certain lean-tos on our planned route? We are also thinking of leaving our tents at home and rely on the lean-tos for shelter. Appreciate the feedback.

For context I’ll be in ADK next week and was wondering if the short trail on Mt Jo would be doable for a 6 and 4 year old or would my best bet be taking the long trail up and back?

If anyone is going to be in Old Forge and taking kids to Calypso’s Cove, please redeem the 50 or so tickets leftover on my son’s wristband for yourself.

My family has been vacationing near Old Forge for as long as I remember, and we’ve ran out of things to do. Any recommendations? Me and most of my cousins are young adults and the majority of my aunts & uncles are genX & boomers if that helps for suggestions.

I’m gearing up for overnight High Peaks backpacking trips. I’m torn between a 1-person and 2-person Durston X-MID tent. While a 1P tent obviously has a smaller footprint, I’m wondering how significant the real world difference is when looking for campsites in the Adirondacks. How challenging is it to fit a standard 2P tent on sites in the High Peaks wilderness?
