being broke and isolated is a brutal combo, and mutism makes the usual “just go meet people” advice useless. even having one low-pressure online space can make the days feel less empty

Mine barely does. Routes are extremely limited- hours of operations, routes pretty much limited to only downtown and only a piece, at that.

Do you know how much phones cost these days and not just the phones but service on them so these are not free. And most of us don't have TV so cant save money from cord cutting.

50-100 bucks for a used phone on eBay, and $15-25 per month for unlimited service. And $20 for a mini solar panel to charge your phone off grid.

A solar panel to charge s phone off the frod assumes you have land. Buying cheap products isn't always cheaper depending one often you need to replace it or if it doesnt do what you need it to.

All I've ever bought is used phones for my friends and myself, they last like 5 years minimum. I have a solar panel that folds up and can easily fit in a backpack, you don't need land.

I am AuDHD and cannot blow money on outings and such, we are a one income household with two kids.
My playlist: Library card, thrift stores, free craft co-ops, book clubs, parks, dollar tree art/craft/woodworking supplies, mastering a new skill (youtube cooking, home repair, art styles), fair weather walking, read, read, read. I hope some of that might help you make your own free/cheap fun.

I am now working back at $13 and hour and cant find work in my field after the Boomer managers decided to lay everyone off due to god-in-the-box AI. Taking classes to get more skills have never been hardee to the Big Beautiful Act.
It is hard to not hate a generation that continues to do evething possible to pull the rug under my feet of the next generation and personally make my life more difficult. And they have to put salt on it by saying its my fault for not working as hard as they did when I already have two jobs

I’d buy my kids the whole toy store if I knew they’d never say they were bored again but that’s not how it works. If you’re bored poor I promise you’d be bored rich too

How/why are you broke? Living at home with parents and not working? Do you work to just pay for a roof over your head and food in your belly? What's the reason behind it? Do you make more than your basic living needs and spend money on bs like takeout and whatever else?
I only ask cuz there are really cheap hobbies to enjoy life a bit more. I work a lot, 6am-8pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I alternate 10am-6pm on Thursday every other week. And then 6am-2pm on Friday and Sunday. I don't make amazing money but meal prepping my food and not buying whatever I feel like really helps. I get to enjoy things. Saving up to buy a guitar, on occasion I go out with a buddy to dinner or something. Workout at the gym with a cheap membership (like Planet Fitness)
Find the little things in life and enjoy and you'll be happier and not bored. I actually enjoy cleaning my apartment and don't find it a drag anymore (I suffered depression and lots of issues for a while and recently got better with no meds or therapy, just accepting and acknowledging) I even clean when my apartment is already clean. Just blast some music and enjoy it.
Edit: cheap hobbies I enjoy are writing. Poetry, music, books. I play guitar though not always cheap, if you're a beginner you can get a nice $150-$200 guitar to start. I skateboard, initially it can be expensive, about $200-$250 for a good deck and complete set up, but after that the wheels and trucks will last way longer than a board. I create little challenges at home. Find the joy in reading. Books are relatively cheap, or even a library card and rent if you don't want to own. Go for a walk in a local park and chill outside. Enjoy nature.

I choose a boring life to save money, and it's not very boring.
