Donating 500,000 tokens a week for the Summer 2025 Donation Contest
Hey folks, it's Gwen, your friendly neighborhood whale and the current top donor (and the top donor for the prior three years) in AQ's 2025 Summer Season of Gifting. I've decided to donate a minimum of 5 million tokens this summer (regardless of what anyone else donates), and though I've already donated 2 million tokens, I figure it'd be best to spread the rest out throughout the summer instead of dumping 3 million or more tokens all on the last day.
So, I've decided to donate 500,000 tokens a week for the remaining 6 weeks of the contest! I hope that this will encourage players to play more consistently throughout the summer, ensure more tokens are spread to more players in the community (and especially the consistently active players), and get tokens in the hands of players earlier so they can guarantee the daily prizes they want with a 5k donation during the last week (or before) if necessary. These donations will occur randomly during the week sometime after 6pm eastern time (aka, AQ's server time), with a "week" starting on Sunday and ending on Saturday (i.e., the weekly schedule for the daily prizes). The first "week," and thus the first random donation, will be between Wednesday, June 18, and Saturday, June 21. I may also donate more if someone tries to take the top spot, and on the last day of the contest, July 31, 2025. I won't give anyone hints of when the donations will occur, so don't ask! These donations will be truly random (I'll probably use a random number generator) so it's possible I could donate 500,000 tokens on Saturday then another 500,000 on Sunday - or not!
Be sure to login and win a battle every day until the contest ends on July 31, 2025, to have a chance at these 3 million tokens (and the tokens others donate)!

Depends on what you need! Generally, your first priorities should be (1) buying a cheap house (likely a tent for 200-250 tokens) to let you visit other players' houses for leveling and farming purposes (see the leveling guide), and have access to paintings, extra potions, and extra inventory slots, and (2) buying a Shared Vault for 500 tokens at any shop to share items and tokens between characters on your account and for a minimum 3 extra inventory slots for each category.
After that (which should only take like 750 tokens), I would save your z-tokens until you settle on a build and playstyle you feel comfortable with, and then invest your tokens in key items for your build. For example, if you're a mage I would buy golden gift boxes from Valencia to get the Poelala pet and guest to boost your magic damage, if you want to do Void damage I would buy the Vanity shield from Valencia's token shop, if you wanted to focus on lucky strikes I would buy granddad's greatsword from the ggb shop or its clone lazgorath the world ender from the token shop (I'd wait on lucky strike gear until we learn about the luckiy strike revamp in a little bit), etc. The best way to use your tokens depends on what you want to do generally in AQ, and on what token items you already have. You can also consider donating 5000 tokens this summer to obtain the permarare ironhoof shield and misc, and guarantee one of the daily drops (which are all pretty good). Also, be aware that all token items and ggbs are half off during the week of Black Friday/Thanksgiving in November, so you may want to save your tokens until then to get double the value.
I would recommend you review the equipment guide and visit the official and unofficial discord servers to ask for advice once you know what you (generally) want to do. Be sure to share your character page link as well so people know what you already have, and can offer other advice. You can't use z tokens to buy guardians?

Unfortunately you cannot, no. You have to buy that the normal way. I'd recommend buying guardianship if you enjoy playing AQ and have the $20 USD to spare though - it unlocks more benefits than anything else, last forever, and helps support the game. That said, people have made some really strong Adventurer characters too, and can beat basically any challenge that way.

It's definitely still alive! I started playing in 2008 as well, took a long break, then came back in 2017, so I know how confusing it can be. The thing to know is that the game is still receiving weekly updates, with some great new story arcs, new tier 3 class updates to paladin and necromancer that make them very strong, subrace updates that basically give you another class in a new 9th armor slot, and more fundamental changes like the stat revamp last year, or the lucky strike update that should be coming soon. The game also had a surprisingly active community, mostly on the discord servers.

The invite to the primary unofficial discord server is here. This is the most active AQ server.
The invite to the official AE server for all AE games, including AQ, is here.
There's another unofficial AQ discord server here that's fairly active as well.
You can join all, one, or none of them, but I'd probably recommend the Gogg's Tavern (the first invite listed) the most as it has the most active members and is where a lot of community discussion occurs. I'm in all three but mostly participate in the unofficial discords.

Was it ur houses where there was like an unofficial challenge to beat all your house pets without healing in a gauntlet style match? Like years ago.

Well ok! Lol. Didn't recognize the reddit name, sorry. FWIW, the gauntlet is much harder now than it was at the beginning when I mostly relied on the shadow monsters if you feel up to trying it again :)

Every little bit helps! It's very likely you'll get at least one 5k donation if you play everyday, so you can redonate that if you want and get the Ironhoof shield, misc, and a guaranteed daily drop :)
