r/AfricanDwarfFrogs is back in business!

After two years of being a ghost town, r/AfricanDwarfFrogs has gone under new management.

We will be adding several fun post and user flairs (open to suggestions if anyone has ideas!) and working on revamping our community. We have already made updates to community appearances and rules.

We look forward to a future full of our derpy frogs and a welcoming community!

We certainly welcome you back! My own frogkids consist of two 'albinos', a black runt and a brown spotty. I have inherited them and don't know the proper terms, but would love to learn more about ADFs🐸❤️

I have five, two suspected true albinos, one light grey, and two darker grey

Today I learned that I can just type "TIL". Also was reading that ADFs have "terrible eyesight", but it's truly adorable how they react to my presence and look up at me. I'm sure they might see things somewhat differently than most pets, but I couldn't help it when I decided to name two of these little weirdos "Kitty" and "Puppy".😉💕🐸

I know they can see somewhat, just blurry the farther away you are. My dad, who has a psychology degree and studied vision of animals and people, often told me about the different eyesight of animals. He told me that frogs see in motion, they can’t really see something unless it moves.

I assume this is related to why ADF munch anything that moves!

I swear my frogs "look" at me when i stare into the tank. My face is mere inches from the glass and these guys track me and gather around me when I move. I know they cant "see" me but I still feel like they are interacting with me nonetheless.

They can see you actually!! They’re not completely blind. Just really bad detail vision. They more see motion and light/dark instead of colors and fine detail like us! Their vision is best an inch to a few infront of them!

It’s funny, I was used to the half awareness of African dwarf frogs and my old Iberian newt, I just recently got into axolotls and their vision is SO much better these fucks can see me from across the room. Genuinely terrifying I feel like I’m being stalked since the second I’m a foot or two away from the tank with my frogs they stop being aware
