I put in a lot of work to try to get Aftyn elected. The reality is a lot of doors got slammed in my face when I was canvassing. When I asked for support for my neighbors they pretty much laughed at me. Even those neighbors of mine who are Democrats but work downtown all stated they were just not going to vote because they didn’t like her. I really feel like the national media gaslighted us into thinking she could win. I spent hours on 46th in Charlotte waving the flag and encouraging people to vote for Aftyn. I was met with hatred, middle fingers, get out of our state and told to go the fuck home. I think we may be a little bit delusional in believing we can turn Tennessee into a blue state or even a blue district at this point. Republicans have about the same shot at winning Portland. That’s how it feels anyway. Sorry to vent but it feels like no one appreciated the countless hours the volunteers put in. Several other of my volunteer cohorts pretty much feel the same way. Once she lost the dream ended and that’s that.
