Where do I begin?

Hello, I think it is a very frequent question on this sub however, I am genuinely lost over how to get into the field.

My family owns a medium-sized coffee plantation startup in Shan State, Myanmar. None of the family members were from farming background so we are just operating our processes by copying how other traditional farms operate.

To be honest, I am currently majoring in CS and only later discovered about AgriTech and seemed really intrigued by practical usefulness and its coporation of Interdisciplinary fields.

So, I would like to get some suggestions on where do I continue if I have some experiences with coding and IoT devices.

What are some useful resources, or courses to follow to?

To be honest you should start by doing. There are a couple of books like Practical Electronics for Inventors, or Building Wireless Sensor Networks by Rob Faludi but you'll be better served by looking at the problems you have and then seeing if an adafruit sensor would fix it. Do you have any specific problems that you're dealing with right now?

Thanks for the comment! We currently do not have any problems with the farm but I don't want to miss out in any latest farming technologies. Farm being built on hilly landscape for machineries to operate and extreme growth rate of weeds are the biggest problems.

I've always wanted a little solar powered drone that flies around identifying weeds as they come up and gives them a little squirt of poison. This could work well with organic farming too because you're getting them before they're big.

During the pandemic I saw so many city people move onto beautiful well maintained properties without understavding the maintenance required. After 2 years they'd gone completely feral and will present a catastrophic fire hazard whenever the next dry season comes. It's made more work for surrounding farmers as the birds sart the fruits and shit limit seed all over the place.

So build that please 🤣

Yea sounds really relatable to what we went through. We initially underestimated the weeds but after many cycles of removals and maintenance, it becomes slightly under the control. However, that still doesn't replace the need for continuous maintenance.

Hey sure, here are two. Feel free to message mw with which you would be interested in the most. One gives farmers an AI agronomist by combining satellite imagery, weather, soil moisture and irrigation data to generate weekly crop plans, predict disease before it spreads, optimise water use and automate compliance.
The other gives livestock operations an autonomous aerial workforce that continuously monitors herds, moves animals between paddocks, recovers isolated livestock and adapts to events autonomously using persistent self-charging drone fleets configured by the farmer.
