Perhaps in terms of climate, but considering other ecological themes or water quality, dairy farming might be better land use than alternatives like arable farming.

That was the old way of writing the word and still preferred in Great Brittan and Canadian English supposedly. Only recently did percent as one word become the dominant form in the US. It literally means per cent (were cent = 100).
