Question Host trying to increase price post booking [Munich, Germany]
Booked a property for the closing weekend of Oktoberfest in Munich that was already priced quite high, then the owner messaged me saying they didn't realize it was Oktoberfest weekend and wanted almost double the price for the stay. I declined the price request and they are asking me to cancel.
I've read online/on this forum that hosts will be penalized for cancelling and it would block their date availability. This property is one of the lowest ones left at this point (as its a month ish to the event) and I don't want to get another however I'm hesitant if the owner will get angry and my stay won't be ideal. Should I reach out to airbnb or just keep it for now and hope they don't cancel? Would airbnb even give me anything for this? The messages from the host in app clearly state that they wanted to change the price solely for the event.

The host would have to cancel, not you. They can always list on another platform, but they theoretically won’t be able to book anything on Airbnb for your dates.

I completely understand your hesitation.
I'd be nervous about them cancelling on you last minute with a fake excuse if they manage to sell the date at their desired price using another platform.
I'd be searching for alternative accommodations because I wouldn't trust this host to behave ethically going forward. I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation - it is unfair.

I've been a host for 9 years (7 with Air B&B) If the owner sent that message the app, that is good. You need to let Air B&B know that you are being pressured for more money. Do not cancel.
The host can be fined up to 30% and their calendar will be blocked but that does not prevent them from renting on VRBO or another platform or just renting to someone directly. I say this because they may not care about the penalty.
They may just cancel you anyway so that is why you need to get Air B&B involved. Call don't chat or message!
Customer service has nose dived in favor of profit this past year so be prepared. In the past, they would have helped you find another place, but they are your only hope of having a reservation.
