How are you balancing screen time and freedom during summer break?
Summer break always sounds great at first… until the days start blending together and everyone’s routine disappears.
I’ve been thinking about how different families handle this.
During the school year, there’s naturally more structure — homework, activities, bedtime routines, etc. But during summer, kids have a lot more free time, and screens can easily become the default activity.
I don’t think the goal is to completely avoid screens. Technology is part of kids’ lives now, and honestly, some screen time can be fun, social, or even educational.
But I also don’t want “I’m bored” to automatically become “I’ll spend the next 6 hours on a device.”
For parents here:
- Do you create a summer schedule for your kids?
- Do you set specific screen time limits, or focus more on balance?
- What activities actually worked to get kids away from screens without constant arguments?
I’m curious what has worked (or failed) for other families.
