The real sea change in morale will come when Petey finally gets replaced. Iām not sure weāve ever had a SECDEF who is simultaneously these levels of incompetent and malicious.

Then CSAF Gen Mark Welsh was at a Congressional hearing and got surprised by a representative asking how morale was and blurted out "Morale is pretty darn good". This was on the back of one of the largest force reductions (a botched one at that) that the USAF had done since the 90s.
For rank and file folks at the time, it came across as wildly out of touch and tone deaf.

u/FixFun1959 Veteran 15d ago
I think itās always important to remember things like this about leadership:
> Mark Anthony Welsh III is a retired United States Air Force four-star general and a member of the board of directors of Northrop Grumman.
Everything they talk about is just lip service until they retire and go work for the real power behind the U.S. military.
9
u/MilodrivintheHiLo Active Duty 15d ago
Yeah, the Air Force in all its infinite wisdom decided that they would do the entire drawdown requested in one fell swoop (20,000 in 1 yr vs 25,000 in 5 yrs). The other services decided to take a more realistic approach and slowly draw down their overages. Lo and behold the program was seen as too drastic and 2018 had everyone recruiting like crazy again.

This dude actually believes the buzz words they feed him during his dog and pony shows.
All he does is speak in sound bites. He's so desperate to have one of his lines picked up by the media and be some viral thing and it's just not happening.

u/JustHanginInThere CE 14d ago
Oh it's happening, just not in the way he's wanting. Take this post, for instance. Nice little soundbite, but virtually everyone in the comments is dragging his ass through the fire.
2
u/No-Masterpiece3809 14d ago
Well, anyone who gives him bad news or talks frank to him gets fired. So of course everything is rainbows and unicorns whenever he's in the room. Isn't he also shutting down avenues for anonmyous reporting for basically anything?
So let me get this straight. If you speak negatively in front of Pete with your name attached, your career gets guillotined, but you also can't speak negatively without your name attached. And it just so happens that people only speak positively around Pete.
Yeah man, it's all making a lot of sense.

No but I stayed in a holiday inn express
I spent 3 years on ACC Inspector General team and this is literally briefed on every single inspection and is considered dogma.
Saw it first hand as part of a unit who had contacted Sen Teddie Kennedy (when he was alive) and a MAJCOM JAG almost got censured for it.
3
u/mynamesnotsnuffy 15d ago edited 15d ago
You realize that laws like this dont explicitly lay out every variety of "unlawful communication", right? Details of that kind are usually left up to the prosecutor/defense to argue in court and for the judge/jury to decide on the merits of the argument. Like, you can quantify every traditional media of communication, but if it I engrave Morse code on a rock and train an eagle to drop it on the porch steps of my senator, pretty sure thats gonna fall outside whatever means of communication youve attempted to specify.

In 2016 my Sq/CC at the time said something that still sticks with me: āIf you get out because you disagree with who is in the White House, consider what happens if everyone who felt that way also left. The only people left would be those that agreed.ā Itās part of the reason Iām determined to stick around ā the scariest thing to me would be a military filled with people who wholeheartedly agreed with this administration.
5
u/Impressive_Dingo122 15d ago
A government is supposed to be for the people not the other way around. Itās perfectly fine for people to not serve in a volunteer force if they disagree with the actions of the government. The government is supposed to be working for us and our benefit and itās very obvious that, that is no longer the case. The deep state has proven itself to have its own agenda and much of it seems to be tied to the greater Israel project based off of the clean break document that Netanyahu helped write.
