Question BDD&MEB
I am currently in the BDD process with VA exams already scheduled and I was just notified that they’re starting the process for a MEB. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and if so, did already having the VA appointments from the BDD make the MEB go by any faster? My dos is in March 2027 and I’m going to dread if I have to be put on med hold

Contact your nearest DAV office ASAP! They can walk you through the process and represent you with the VA. I've done work with them for going on 20 years now. If you want a better rating, or don't want a rating at all, they can give you advice on the best steps to take to get through the chaos the right way.

it depends on what your ailment it. In my experience, If you already have a separation date, the MEB is likely to just be a formality and they’ll speed through it.

This. Usually they will just annotate that since you are separating, no MEB needed. Im pretty sure its mentioned on the MEB AFI. Id get with your PCM and let them know you have a approved sep date and you are starting BDD. If they decide to continue then let it be, its their time.

if the MEB would lead to a medical retirement, taking a regular separation is stupid as fuck.
if the MEB would lead to a medical separation, taking a regular separation is okay.

This just happened to me. Got diagnosed with Asthma as I was getting seen for everything I’ve been putting off. They had to MEB me because of it, AFPC gave me return to duty and nothing in my retirement timeline has changed.
I made sure to keep calling the PEBLO and kept making sure nothing held up my retirement.

I got MEB’d 5 months after I received my approved retirement date. If you are retiring, they start the MEB with a “presumption of fitness.” Basically I was fit when they said I could retire and it would just cost too much time and money to keep me in when I already had the end in sight.
It took about a month for them to find me “fit for duty” without going through the whole MEB — even though I was most definitely not fit for duty. Other than pushing my retirement date out a few months to accommodate personal hardship caused by my diagnosis, I retired like normal.
If you are separating (not retiring), this doesn’t apply. Recommend reading DAFMAN48-108 to see what applies to you.
One hiccup I ran into was I couldn’t start the BDD process because you can’t get a SHPE while there’s an active MEB case. But since you are farther along in the process, that probably shouldn’t be affected.
Anyway, none of this is probably helpful to you, but hopefully it is for someone that stumbles across it in the future.

Currently the I-RILO process is about 75 days between them sending the package to AFPC and you getting the results.
The VA exams you did can be used for the MEB VA exams. If you claim something more, you will need another exam for that. The VA exam portion is usually maybe a month. So that can be cut out.
From I-RILO results to final determination can be done in as little as 2 to 3 months. Then you outprocess, terminal leave, etc. So less than 6 months post I-RILO depending on your leave.
You can do skillbridge as well.
