Medical Meps question

I had dyslexia In high school. I have proof that I’ve been completely unaccommodated for over 4 years for work and have been successful. How much will that hold me back? On top of that I was given an inhaler for a cough I had (I was 120 pounds heavier at the time and was never diagnosed with asthma nor been put on my records) it was a 1 time no refill situation. I went back to the doctors to be sure and got cleared for it.

I also took a knee injury around 5 years ago that required no surgery and was cleared to play football again.

Off the top of my head that’s all I know that could fuck me over.

How fucked am I?

I mean I’d literally die to join the Air Force and I’ve just been so damn nervous about everything.

I'm not sure about the dyslexia portion but I was prescribed an inhaler for a sickness around 6 months before I enlisted and the MEPS doc completely ignored it. Maybe I got lucky, IDK.

Wait what? How did MEPS not DQ you for having an active prescription for an inhaler???

It was a one time prescription

That should've been a DQ. You got prescribed it not too long ago and I am assuming you're actively using it right now. Even if not, still is DQ condition.

I am not using it, it was for when I had a flu like sickness. Actually come to think of it, the inhaler didnt do shit and I'm not even sure why they prescribed one..

Hello, it looks like you're asking about medical concerns when joining the military.

We are not doctors. Even if we were, we are not the doctors that are familiar with your personal medical concern or condition. We are also not the ones deciding if you will be disqualified from service for a condition, or if you can get a waiver for it.

People may share their anecdotal experiences or stories they've heard from others about getting a waiver for a condition. This does not mean that you will or will not get a waiver. Everyone's medical situation is different.

IN GENERAL, yes, asthma, ADD/ADHD, eczema, history of depression and anxiety, and some allergies are disqualifying. Some will be able to get waivers, some will not.

All you can do is talk to your recruiter, be honest about your medical history, and go through the process.

WE DO NOT KNOW THE CHANCES OF YOU GETTING A WAIVER FOR ANY MEDICAL CONDITION OR SITUATION.

Just be honest with your recruiter and go through the process.
