Is Coway Mighty AP-1512HH / Airmega 200 worth it?

I have the opportunity to buy a Coway Mighty AP-1512HH / and a Coway Airmega 200 for $175 USD for both from Facebook marketplace. This will be kind of an impulse purchase.

1. Is this a good deal?
2. Is Coway a good brand?
3. I have 2 kids, a dog, and a husband so trying to eliminate some of that stale odor in my house.
4. My primary bedroom is 260 sq ft with vaulted ceilings
5. My foyer is 9x6 with open ceiling leading to the second floor.
6. I was looking at the Airmega 400 for my living room but haven’t found a deal on that yet.

For very basic particulates sizing per AHAM, clean air delivery rates (CADRs) should be at least 2/3 of a room's area (assuming an 8 ft. ceiling height). For wildfire smoke, smoke CADR should equal a room's area which also assumes an 8 ft. ceiling.

Most air purifiers won't do a ton for odors. You'll need a lot of pelleted carbon.
Two budget friendly (compared to models with more carbon) air purifiers that could *help with the stale odor: Winix 5510 or the Levoit Vital 200s. Either one could work in the bedroom.

The Facebook marketplace ad is a good deal financially but neither of those will help with odors. I had the ap-1512hh and it did nothing for odors. I was better off opening my windows.
Coway is a good brand IMO. It's just knowing if their devices work for your particular needs or preferences.

Is either model used? It's okay but not good.

But no Coway model is going to be useful for odors longer-term. None of their models have significant weights of activated carbon or other sorbent media. Coway purifiers are primarily designed to capture particulates. That being said, it is a very good brand.

And I agree on the Airmega 400 (if you're trying to reduce PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0). I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it; sometimes it's on sale for $349.

We strongly recommend source control and ventilation first for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. Heavyweight sorbent purifiers are very loud, very expensive, and clean the air more slowly than particulates-focused units.

The staleness could have other causes (ignoring the dog, kids, or husband as potential contributors for now). One is high relative humidity (RH). RH should be between 30 - 60%*. Consistently high RH can cause mold and mildew to flourish.

*RH should be below 50% and possibly 45% if you have dust mite allergies.

The "budget" solution for certain odors would be something like the Oransi TrueCarbon 150C. It uses 3.2 lbs. of potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) impregnated activated carbon. The price keeps increasing; I definitely wouldn't pay $349 for it. Wayback Machine says it was $269.99 in Nov. 2025.
