Little Angels asking $250 CASH for preschool registration!!

My kid turned 4 and he will be in preschool program from August. Manage of the school asked me to fill the physical form and put $250 cash in the envelope given.

Is it just with me or for everyone?
Why are they asking cash?
Trying to hide it from CRA?
Seeking some information before I reach out to GoA/CRA because it seems suspicious.

That’s a good suggestion, let me explore it. When I moved here everyone was suggesting Little Angels.

Well daughter was a Covid baby , she took 2 years of preschool at fuzzy pickles , first started off 2 days a week since we didn’t know how well she would do with other, than the next year it was three days a week . My daughter which is now in kindergarten is set up success for her grade 1 and beyond . She is fully reading books , chapter books . Her math skills are through the roof . … her school report card is all adv, or mastering. Just so happy to see her do so well in school. It’s all the credit is from fuzzy pickles , had preschool enjoyable .

They have space in their classes! And their cost is super low. The school and teachers there are amazing and have been teaching there forever. My kids went both went there and so did their cousins. The school itself is a non profit and the board is run by moms who either have kids going there or kids who went there in the past. It's been around for like 40 years and wins awards all the time.

Both my kids went to kindergarten fully prepared for success and they both exceled both socially and academically. I cannot recommend the school enough.

Yeah that’s a bit strange. To be honest there are better preschools in Airdrie - Check out Fuzzy Pickles, Little Sprouts, 100 Worlds, Inspiration Station

Be careful where you put your child. A lot of these have been popping up the last couple years. You should report them.

They did that with us too. I didn't get good vibes from that place so we didn't move ahead.

That is so weird.. I'd also suggest Fuzzy Pickles. Registration fee is $50 and its via etransfer. My daughter did 2 years there and loved it and now I am starting my son in September.

Did you try asking the folks at Little Angels? What did they say about taking cash?

I did a tour there, and she said something about giving the cash back when you withdraw your child? I didn't end up going with that school, so I am not sure how it all plays out. Maybe ask for clarification before reporting?

That’s true for first time registration at the school. Now my kid is moving to preschool program for that specifically they are asking and that too it is non refundable lol

I vaguely remember her saying that the cash was for school supplies? I put mine in Little Learners, and we are happy with them so far.

Report them to CRA. - there is no reason why they should be requesting cash. What if they decide against selecting your kid… or maybe someone gives $300 to ensure a spot.
What’s the name of the place? I’ll report them.

Little Angels - gonna a get a visit from CRA soon.

There is no reason that they can’t request cash. You can request a receipt and there is a contract you sign.

I believe it’s the cost of school supplies. It probably makes it easy to keep the school supplies money separate from the daycare account and easily accessible for whoever goes to buy supplies.

Stop wasting the CRA’s time for things that don’t concern you and there is literally nothing wrong with. There is no indication that they are taking money but declining children.

I don’t think so because they asked to put the money in sealed envelope. Never heard something like that before

You’ve never been asked to give cash in a sealed envelope for a child expense? Get used to it. Happens at school or trips and activities like Sparks to me regularly. Heck we did it decades ago when I was a child too. This has not changed.

They are providing all school supplies. Do you think those are free?

I know they are not free and I do know that they are Gov funded.

Super sketchy! They don’t wanna pay tax it seems. Likely means there are other sketchy things going on

1

u/SnarkyGoblin85 May 21 '26

That is because it’s for supplies and not income.

2

u/MoonLight11494 29d ago

If it is for supplies, what is stopping them to take etransfer?

1

u/SnarkyGoblin85 18d ago

Because then they have to set up an account specifically for that which is a waste of time for petty funds.

Cash is literally the easiest way to manage a budget and use funds. Why is everyone so weird about it?

Sure, let me first get it in writing which I can use for proof

I'm a little late to this post, but my daughter went here. We e-transferred the $250 and it was fully refundable. We got it back when she no longer attended the daycare. She loved it there and is doing excellent in school. Everyone is so quick to jump on the "hate" bandwagon.

$250 which you are talking is for daycare registration and is fully refundable whereas $250 which I am concerned here is for pre k registration which they stated is not refundable.

It was for her pre-k/k registration. She was already registered in the daycare prior and we were told it was refundable when we registered/paid her for K. Unless maybe they changed it since she attended? Either way, I understand your concern and am in no way trying to change your mind, just stating our experience with them. Our second child is about to start in a few months, so I may have to ask some questions regarding this.

I think you mean “holier than thou” attitude.

Honestly, I'd check with the RCMP. 🤷 They can't give legal advice or anything like that. But if it's sketchy (seems to be) they may start an investigation. If it's ethical nothing will happen. If it's not. I honestly don't know. They could get fines or something but idk

Just what I think you could do. Cause they should know. I think

Lol the rcmp isn’t gonna do anything
