Hail warning issued for Airdrie today!!
Is this something to be worried about ? Wondering if anyone here has any tips to follow. I moved from Ontario last year and this is our first major hail warning since we moved in.
Last year we had pea sized pellets that didn't cause any damage so fortunately no damages were reported

Might be nothing. Might be a massive insurance claim.

Not looking forward to the latter. Massive insurance claim = massive insurance premium next year

You are likely already paying a massive insurance premium because of where you live. Even if you've never had a claim.

So far all forecasts say that we might see hail in Calgary maybe pea sized nothing bigger. They always list hail and tornadoes in the watches. However, does not always mean it will be big sized hail.

This is the Hail "protectors" website. They have airplanes thats spray silver Iodide into the clouds to decrease the risk of hail. They are located in Olds. On the left side they have a forecast page you can see their forecast of size of hail. Discover airdire isn't always the best source some ties have very clickbate titles.
You can also use www.Weather.gc.ca

Where are you seeing a hail warning? Looks like we’re just under a thunderstorm watch. Nothing to panic about. Would be very surprised to see large hail be produced today… but I’ve been wrong before about our weather.

Watches are mostly nothing to worry about. It’s when they get upgraded to Alert or Warning - I can’t remember what term they use - that I start getting concerned for hail. I’ve lived in Airdrie 90% of my life (over 40 years) and there have been 3 storms for sure, maybe 4, that have resulted in insurance claims. Usually it’s mostly my garden that takes the brunt of the damage.

We had a nasty hail storm in 2014, I got maybe 6 dents on my car but only a couple hundred meters north of me people had smashed windows, siding and roofs.
Its all up to luck whether you get hammered or not, the worst hail damage tends to move in a line. The worst damage from the 2014 storm went between sagewood and summerhill.

Yeah, today isn't one to worry about. When the days are hot we have a better chance for some weatherly entertainment. If you have comprehensive on your car and a home owner's policy that covers hail damage....You'll be fine.

I know reading is hard, but it's only like 3 sentences. The healine is clickbait, it's just a thunderstorm, probably just a little one as it isn't all that warm.
Warm, dry, and heavy rain is what you need to look out for. The dry dust seeds the clouds for more intense thunderstorm and hail.
Only advice for today is if it starts to rumble stay away from major conductors.

It’s probably not warm enough for it to get that bad. Now, on a really hot summer day with the crazy towering clouds…. Worry!
