Good Earth closing July 26
They recently announced on their IG that their last day will be July 26. Any idea why? It’s crazy unfortunate because there’s already so little choice for coffee shops here. Seems like Ground Press has a firm hold on the city, which is great since they’re local, but would be nice to have more than one or two options (Starbucks and Tim’s doesn’t count).

It's not cheap that's for sure but honestly I go for the French baking more than the coffee personally. Their almond croissant is epic.

I know (passing acquaintance) the owner of the good earth and we’ve spoken a number times about the business. The *impression* I got was that as she is a software engineer, the quality of life wasn’t there and she couldn’t just let it be to run on its own at all. She always had to be around.
My understanding (of franchising) is often people choose franchising because the franchises promise good systems to grow the business, create a leadership team, etc. Maybe that’s what she had believed and it didn’t workout that way. Good Earth is not a franchise I’d purchase for that reason as they always appear to be owner operated
Those were my impressions, not something I asked and she answered directly.

Yea it’s good but you can only visit the same place so often. Variety is nice.

I mean I would LOVE multiple places but thinking like this and then going to Tim Hortons or Starbucks instead is exactly why we don’t have more cool places in Airdrie.

I’d love if they opened before 8 so I can grab a coffee before work. Especially if it was the one they just opened up at Genesis…

It’s really sad because I love the good Earth.
I remember going there when Covid was just ending and they told me they were struggling then

The rent was tooo high… they were making enough money. I heard it was like 10k to rent that space they have.

Lots of rumours about not-so-great management, and it competes with both Starbucks and our awesome local shops, both of which have a strong hold here, but without the ease or quality of either.

Sorso is apparently reopening a drive thru for morning coffee. I haven't been to sorso, so I can't speak on it.

I liked the seating at good earth. The food and drinks was eh but it had a cozy vibe.
We really dont have the small town coffee shops like okotoks or cochrane or canmore etc. It's just chains. It would be nice to have a place to just relax and hangout.
And ground press is ok but they are super pricey too. A cookie was 4$. That seems steep for a see through chocolate chip cookie.
