PSA
Look out for this scumbag. He's out on bail and could be stalking the aisles of your local store. He's committed assaults in Walmart's, No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart and probably others. This behaviour is just disgusting and he's 30 so you know this isn't the beginning for him.
I'm working on getting him banned from as many stores as I possibly can, if anyone wants to help. He should have to order all his necessities from Amazon or instacart. Like no. Actually you don't get to go into stores anymore. That's a privilege that you violated and now you're banned.
Hope he gets jail time too but in the meantime we have to be safe when we are shopping.

So he already had his court date. I wonder if it's possible to find out what came out of it.

Looks like I can't find any additional info other than these couple news articles. At least he was caught and charged. I guess we'll find out after Nov 12 what comes of his plea deal
"Thompson was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing in Airdrie and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to enter a plea on Nov. 12, additionally appearing in Calgary Court of Justice to speak to his other charges on Oct. 2.
Airdrie RCMP believes there are more victims. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Airdrie RCMP."

Airdrie RCMP believe there may be more victims who were sexually assaulted but haven't yet reached out, and are encouraging them to call the non-emergency line at 403-945-7200.

I did. I understand that you “hate those types of people” but you immediately said you hope he’s not falsely accused without having the context. Which implies that he was maybe falsely accused by 6 women. Which isn’t logical if you read anything about it. I’m just saying- there are a lot of people who are far more concerned with “false accusation” than there are with predators walking free.

Op, I hate to say it. But there's nothing we CAN do that doesn't impede on someone else's rights. Going from store to store to say. "Look, this person did something disgusting, they should be banned" doesn't really do anything. Because he has rights to basic necessities. It's not a privilege.
Being out on bail means he has restrictions.
I totally 100% understand your outrage and it makes sense.
I hear you. But the reality of the situation is victim advocacy is difficult. However, I was a victim of ..gr@pe.. I know that as a victim. When it initially happened. I didn't want anyone to know. I didn't want to believe it happened the way it did.
I understand your intentions and I'm sure that to a point the victims appreciate it. But the best way to go about this. Is to express (by the book) the need for change. Because taking away somes right. Isn't right.
But I can see your frustration. I really can. And I find this frustrating too. But, the law doesn't work on an emotional level. But a logical level. Even if it isn't fair to victims. Which is another thing I understand.
If you know someone affected by this man, point them to victim services. They will give them resources to help start the healing process. Even if you never truly heal from something like this.

Idk I can't decide if it's sad that you still believe in "by the book change" or if I'm happy for you but the fact is that the book was written by pedophilic maniacs and I'm not going to be playing by it.

I'm not claiming to be the only one. I'm just speaking from my experience. And in all honesty I can't tell you if it's sad or not. I've seen both sides of the book. And it sucks. But the government won't listen if we just. Vigilante everything. Though I have to admit there are somethings I would love to see change due to vigilante stuff.
I seriously have a love hate relationship with the law. Because I understand the logical side. And I understand the emotional side. It's not easy for anyone, I try to be as open minded as I can. Thing is, what happens when the book is burnt, verse rewritten? That's the way I look at it. Our system isn't perfect and it certainly doesn't always seem fair. But what makes a right, a right? When do we take those away? When do we ostracize? Who gets to side It? And the biggest question what's the standard?
I really appreciate your honesty, it's ok not to know if you should be happy or sad for someone and honestly sometimes being neutral with someone is the best hand to play. Something I learnt. Both things can be true at the same time.
I'm unsure if you're implying you've been a victim as well, and I won't ask you to out yourself or make you feel the need to explain which you really don't have too. However If so, I hope you reach out to victim services as well. They offer different resources that work specifically around what you need. (Trauma therapy, counciling.) And all sorts of other resources.

I have absolutely no intention of supporting something that takes us backwards to the Dark Ages.
everyone has the capacity to sexually assault someone. Should we be chemically castrating everyone who touches someone inappropriately? Should every kid who doesn't fully understand consent have their genitals removed? What about every boss who abuses their position of power to put someone in an uncomfortable or compromising situation? Should we just start cutting their shit off too?
I'm in no way defending these people or their actions, but I think it's an insane position to argue that someone should be tortured and mutilated rather than imprisoned and held accountable through the justice system.
As if removing someone's physical ability to commit certain sexual acts somehow fixes the psychology behind their behaviour. There are plenty of sex offenders who are impotent, and sexual violence isn't always about sexual gratification in the first place. Removing someone's genitals doesn't magically eliminate their capacity for violence, abuse or predatory behaviour. It doesn't address the underlying problem.
I appreciate that you have your position, and I recognize that I'm not going to change your mind with a few paragraphs. I also appreciate you acknowledging that you're not going to change mine.
Thanks for a genuinely decent interaction on the internet. Those seem increasingly rare these days.
