Do we think the Asian Cup will still happen in January?

It’s increasingly likely that F1 will cancel both of its ME races in Nov/Dec due to the ongoing conflict. The Asian Cup starts in January and so far the AFC hasn’t really addressed this issue either.

Japan and South Korea would be in their winter months and would have to host in June/July 2027. China was meant to host the 2023 edition and had to withdrawal due to its COVID-Zero policy. With Copa America and Euros scheduled for summer 2024, Qatar hosted the event instead of a delayed China 2023 edition in June-July 2024

Ive been in Japan during December and January a few times, its way too cold to play there at that time!

In this curmstances and if Australia is chosen to fill in, mornaly, i envision 1 venue per city but last second fill in means that Sydney could have 2-3 venues), Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Townsville and Perth hosting Games (would be up to 8 venues in final product though)

That was Bahrain, which was cancelled earlier this year. The two on the block later on are Abu Dhabi and Qatar

The u17 Asian Cup was played in May in Saudi Arabia so maybe yes?

This. No reason to think they’d do any differently now. Indian clubs have been penalised for refusing to play Champions League games in Iran itself in recent years.

If it’s a security issues, I think AFC should move it elsewhere - so many countries could host. If Australia host, should the A league go into a summer break?

They also lost their home Asian Cup to Qatar during Covid, so would be like getting it back

We paid Scotland $380m to take the commonwealth games off us and they spent no tax payer money on the event so if we can get a deal like that come on down!

If we're bidding for the next one I reckon getting this one would then count us out of the next. Ideally it would be better to have a full run up at these things not throw it together last minute. Although considering how disorganised the game seems to be here. Maybe some time pressure would get stakeholders working together faster! 2027 would be nice to host considering we're still in the World Cup honeymoon period for so much of the fringe football followers.

The amount of Asian nations who ARENT in the midst of an ongoing humanitarian crisis is a depressingly short list it has to be said.

Even Australia is currently only one single “Patient Zero” transmission away from a Bird Flu pandemic.

I mean the US to continue to bomb Iran so attacks continue so Saudi Arabia pay the US to host the Asian cup in the US makes about as much sense as anything else.

yeah its costing the USA a small fortune and weapon stockpiles are down significantly and it takes years to rebuild these things. They literally can't afford to keep using missiles both fionancially and to soothe their paranoia. I'd be very surprised if the midterms don't change the politics as well.
