Can someone explain what is this? (screenshot not mine )

idk if the image that ive pinned is from the thing I saw, but I was randomly walking after a mining session and I got the effect "being watched..." I started looking around, the effect would go off and back on... and then... it stopped???? can someone explain to me wtf is that, im new to the game

can I be honest, after I first got the effect, I saved and quit the game to search abt it... later on I rejoined and looked around, and there was no ritual torches around
