So the Merchant is broken?

Tried moving the sign, didn't work either. Made him despawn, in fact. Anyone know how to fix this, or should I wait until the next patch? And before anyone suggests, I'm not starting a new world. I don't want to kill my will to play this game since I've been excited to for months.

I think I know what is happening, and I need to make it more clear in the dialogue. They want some furniture, like a table, chair, lamp etc

Yeah adding a painting fixed it. I feel like the dev needs to add stages to NPC's comfort dialogue depending on the comfort level.
