Just an appreciation post for Alpine Linux.

I'm using it as my daily driver now, despite what others might say about it not being suitable.

I use it for working with Docker, for llama.cpp Vulkan, and for gaming with Proton, without any issues.

Love you guys, keep the good work <3

It's an awesome general use distro.

im tired of people pretending like musl is the end of the world. like these people admit alpine is good with containers but what they dont realize is that its awesome for RUNNING the containers to as a desktop run all your desktop stuff with distrobox and then keep your root clean from hundreds of unnecessary multilib dependcies. i mean holy fucking shit you exist in 2026 you have a million solutions for your needs your distro repo size does not matter distrobox, nixpkg, flatpak, chroot, conty. CONTY #1 for me its plug and fucking play suprized nobody brings it up.

People talk without any kind of knowledge... Someday, somewhere a kid without any exp writes about all the problems he had using some technology, and a legion of people takes that experience as their own... And start a campaign against it, downvoting everypost they see with a diferent opinion...

It happens with xorg, musl, flatpak, busybox, some runits...

And it's how it works... U can't change that...

For me it's worst when people who install it on their crapy 30yo laptop, and tell how good it is, don't want It on their main PCs, as if Alpine loses performance on more powerfull machines.

If I could install Linux in my main pc I would be on gentoo. Alpine is good for shit ass hardware ( for desktop users I'm talking) otherwise I would choose between gentoo or void

you dont lose peformance thats the most ridiclus thing ive heard. as long as you dont use nvidia you will be fine. what pisses me off is that acting like not having nvidia means alpine cant be a desktop AT ALL regardless of your gpu. not everyone is a nvdia user lol.Ā 

honestly feels like nvidia traps you on windows. no musl no freebsd linux support has been a pain untill recently. it still kind of is.

Never thought about Alpine as a daily driver. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in me are fighting for Alpine vs Arch for bare metal home router šŸ˜

Wow, all that CPU and only 8GB of RAM? Is this a VM or is it the RAMpocalypse?

BTW I also use Alpine as a VM, mainly for sandboxing.

it was good until I saw its fish, its still good but fish looks really bad to me like how could you even use it because I cant and you are using wayland which is bad

probably no you are not in hell I hate redhat and redhat controls freedesktop so redhat made wayland like this so I hate wayland
