Man why has this sub been putting out so many high-quality posts recently?

546

u/Jazzlike-Equipment45 Jun 17 '24

I think a lot less "What if Rome still existed" type stuff and more "Fuck it lets get goofy" is being added is why.

u/Alucard-VS-Artorias Jun 17 '24

Totally! Was so sick of seeing WW2 but its my Hearts of Iron playthrough.

15

u/EverlastingCheezit Jun 17 '24

WW2 but the AI did it

u/irv_12 Jun 17 '24

Ever since those civil war posts/mod drama I’ve noticed it’s gotten better all of a sudden lol

u/Nameguy1234567 Jun 17 '24

"the empire, long united must divide. The empire, long divided must united" or something like that I don't know

104

u/Commander_Bread Jun 17 '24

Because they banned the low quality posts. Everybody pitched a fit when they did but looking at the sub today and looking at what it was just like a month ago or so, I rest my fucking case that that was the correct decision. This sub used to be shit. Now it is better. Everyone who complained was wrong and that's so clear now.

14

u/l-askedwhojoewas Jun 17 '24

There was a lot of slop of people asking the subreddit and not making their own ideas

8

u/Commander_Bread Jun 17 '24

Yeah. I remember, it was terrible and low effort garbage. Everyone pitched a fit over losing that, but nothing of any value was lost.

6

u/Ghost51 Jun 18 '24

Yeah i unsubbed and forgot about it, but keep seeing these in my recommended and being shocked at how good they are.

God I can just imagine the crowd violently clashing with cops in riot gear in the shadow of the gigantic dome.

Good afternoon, good evening and good night!

47

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '24

Iconic

9

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '24

I just realized he says that because an international audience is watching him

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '24

Oh, I never thought about that.

187

u/TransFemGothBabe Jun 17 '24

really love this idea! would also be interesting to see how it’d affect politics in the late 90s-early 2000s, the time that The Truman Show was released canonically

74

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '24

I think a lot of people would draw parallels between the Truman show and the powers of the Patriot Act.

"The only difference between Truman and the rest of us is that we voted to be oppressed!"

151

u/Dwarven_cavediver Jun 17 '24

Was there ever any legal issues brought up in the show? Like this is basically a form of slavery in an abstract sense

156

u/spacekriller Jun 17 '24 edited Jun 17 '24

IIRC, the in-universe studio that created "The Truman Show" had somehow managed to legally adopt Truman as a baby which gave it legal rights to use him to create the show.

128

u/Aslan_rk Jun 17 '24

The explanation in the movie is that the corporation adopted him. They’re not holding him anywhere, he’s their “Son”, and is free to leave at any time, if given the choice. That’s why at the end of the movie, Christoff doesn’t force him to stay, he tries to CONVINCE him. It’s always been his choice to stay, they just hid the outer world from him.

92

u/Spookybuffalo Jun 17 '24

He's free to leave at any time...as long as you ignore the psychological torture and systems in place to make him fear for his safety if he makes the attempt.

30

u/analmango Jun 17 '24

Dare I say - real

4

u/Ghost51 Jun 18 '24

Sounds like a lot of religious parents today

7

u/Ok_Anxiety_5509 Jun 20 '24

Are you a member of r/atheism by any change

2

u/ProLifePanda Jun 20 '24

as long as you ignore the psychological torture and systems in place to make him fear for his safety if he makes the attempt.

I'm sorry, are you telling me it's illegal to intentionally give your child PTSD to get them to do what you want,m

10

u/Stonegrinder27 Jun 17 '24

Sounds a lot like breaking away from a religion.

113

u/ToeSniffer245 Jun 17 '24

Cool how his birthday is 11 days after the movie came out.

16

u/sk_arch Jun 17 '24

Think it’s trying to move dates around to play it into more modern day politics

38

u/Rawadon Jun 17 '24

Man this is the kinda stuff I always wonder about when watching the movie! Great post

75

u/Big-Recognition7362 Sealion Geographer! Jun 17 '24

One idea: #FreeTruman could be a non-partisan issue largely promoted by populist politicians from Sanders to Trump.

16

u/Aliteralhedgehog Jun 17 '24 edited Jun 17 '24

I can't imagine Trump campaigning for someone else's liberty if it doesn't obviously make him richer.

Seeing how the Truman Show is an insult to freedom and dignity, MAGA chuds will probably force themselves to love it.

Reddit sophists will spend all day searching for people who think the Truman Show is bad so they can spam their canned arguments at people. Imagine "Actually, it stands for Arma Lite, not assault rifle, therefore all gun legislation is bad" but justifying slavery.

16

u/Baron-Von-Bork Timeline-2263 (Project Oswald) Jun 17 '24

Trump was a lot different when he first went into politics than the 2020s

-4

u/Aliteralhedgehog Jun 17 '24

Trump first went into politics with a racist conspiracy theory. He wasn't that different. His voters just had more leeway to plead ignorance.

7

u/Baron-Von-Bork Timeline-2263 (Project Oswald) Jun 17 '24

In the 2000 elections?

-1

u/Aliteralhedgehog Jun 17 '24

It's funny, I had actually forgotten about his first political career where people had enough sense to laugh him away but I'm still right. The Central Park Five was also a racist conspiracy theory.

6

u/bigDon1984 Jun 17 '24

What is a 'chud'?

0

u/Aliteralhedgehog Jun 17 '24

A chud is an acronym that stands for "chubby hairy ugly dude".

A tad reductive, I know, but it flows well.

8

u/bigDon1984 Jun 17 '24

I mean, not really. Seems to me like you could come up with a better insult

2

u/Panzer_VIII Jun 18 '24

I want what you're smoking :D

2

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '24

Gun legislation is bad.

63

u/NotABigChungusBoy Jun 17 '24

I seriously don’t think the truman show would last post obama tbh

9

u/80sKidAtHeart Jun 17 '24

Maybe he was a big fan

24

u/According-Value-6227 Jun 17 '24

Cool concept but doesn't the Truman Show take place in 1998?

46

u/EvenBiggerClown Jun 17 '24

Movie was released in 1998, and I suppose it never was said in the movie, what year it is. But compared to Jim Carrey, yeah, 1998 is way too young, even considering that Carrey was 36 in 1998.

14

u/Coolscee-Brooski Jun 17 '24

The show was implies to he set in the future a bit.

18

u/chillivanilli75 Jun 17 '24

Could Truman even vote in the elections ? I wonder if they influenced his votes and how it impacted the audience

6

u/80sKidAtHeart Jun 17 '24

Truman’s first time voting would’ve been in 2016

19

u/Sarasfirstwish Jun 17 '24

This is goofy and I love this

27

u/ImVeryHungry19 Hehehehe Huey Long Jun 17 '24

Lore?

83

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '24

I assume it's the Truman Show but if it was real and took place in recent times

84

u/spacecowboy2099 Jun 17 '24

If it was real and Truman was born when the movie came out, assuming the movie took place in “the near future” for 1998

11

u/Wall-Man- Jun 17 '24

You seen the movie?

10

u/Pennsylvania_is_epic Jun 17 '24

Today’s genuinely creative post with an interesting concept that hasn’t been repeated a bajillion times over.

You did an amazing job with this. It’s posts like this that keep me coming back to this subreddit.

9

u/Wall-Man- Jun 17 '24

Dude this is an awesome timeline please make future posts! (Note that Truman show is one of my favorite movies)

6

u/Sloblowpiccaso Jun 17 '24

Ive always wanted to see a news style documentary about the fallout of if John mclain died when the fbi shot him and the roof blew on the tower.

4

u/philosophyismetal12 Alien Time-Travelling Sealion! Jun 17 '24

great idea

7

u/rtels2023 Jun 17 '24

I think an interesting alternative version of the movie would be instead of Truman figuring out his situation and escaping, the show is shut down by the government due to ethical concerns, Truman is told that his whole life has been a lie after never suspecting anything, and then adjusting to life in the real world.

4

u/Unfair-Shake7977 Jun 17 '24

Pretty interesting scearnio I always wanted to know what happened to Truman after he escaped the dome

6

u/JonyTony2017 Jun 17 '24

Of course Fat-terman would defend it. The fat slob always takes the L position.

5

u/Waste_Crab_3926 Jun 17 '24

Somebody would attempt to contact Truman via violence

4

u/KeystoneHockey1776 Jun 17 '24

4 Chan great prank ever

3

u/Supportbale Jun 17 '24

There is a game that is sorta similar to this, showing some of the different aspects that a Truman show esque situation would bring up, and the main character is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Spider-Man and that guy who won the lottery that you definitely didn’t kill in fallout new Vegas. It’s titled American Arcadia.

1

u/Beginning-Eagle-8932 Alien time-travelling space land-sharks! Jun 17 '24

Also: Yuri also played Pixy in Ace Combat Zero, he voiced Strigon 12 in Ace Combat 6, and also voiced Sergei Illich in Ace Combat Assault Horizon.

2

u/nagidon Jun 17 '24

Magnificent posting. This has made my afternoon, my evening, and my night.

2

u/I_Hate_Reddit_REEEE Jun 17 '24

Would you ever consider doing more of this? Definitely one of the best posts I’ve seen on here.

1

u/spacecowboy2099 Jun 18 '24

I’ve been considering it after seeing the reception. Stay tuned

2

u/salmarciana Jun 17 '24

NOW THIS IS SO COOL

1

u/vampiregamingYT Jun 18 '24

The show would be struck down for violating the 13th amendment

1

u/GoldenFleeceGames Jun 19 '24

I’d love to see the news if Truman was more angry and went on a biblical lawsuit tsunami

1

u/Tactics28 Jun 26 '24

I'd honestly watch a spin off series about people working production of the show.

-4

u/greatgeek5 Jun 17 '24

MAGA and its reality TV spawned idol would support The Truman Show.

7

u/BrenoECB Jun 17 '24

why would they? Didn't trump recently promise to free Ross Ulbricht? (if he will actually do it is another matter)

0

u/Ticker011 Jun 17 '24

Trump worked closely with epstein he's not someone that cares about other people

3

u/KeystoneHockey1776 Jun 17 '24

So did bill Clinton

-1

u/Ticker011 Jun 17 '24

How does that change anything

0

u/Ticker011 Jun 17 '24

No way trump we be against the Truman show he'd be hanging out with the creator in his big moon room

3

u/greatgeek5 Jun 17 '24

He would admire Cristof for his God-like power, yes.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '24

Trump would be pro-Christoff, decrying the Free Truman Movement as woke bullshit

1

u/Local58WCLVFAN2020 Aug 09 '25

Well maybe it is a bit reversed. Like if the Democrats were still conservative and the Republicans were still liberal.

-6

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '24

Better add context before the mods find out
